Divinyls Announce February & March 2019 Australian Tour

by the partae December 3, 2018
written by the partae
Long is the time since billboards across the country have lit up with the name Divinyls. A brand synonymous with raw, exciting, and above all uncompromising rock ‘n’ roll. A band that won the heart of a nation and then eventually the world. That time has come again as founding member, guitarist and co-songwriter Mark McEntee returns in 2019 with a talented new line-up hitting the road in March to honour the legacy and celebrate the indelible music created with the late, great Chrissy Amphlett.

Led by the commanding vocal stylings of Amphlett and the whipsmart guitar vocabulary of McEntee, the Divinyls were a massive international success in the ‘80s-‘90s.

Managed early on by Bon Scott’s friend and collaborator, Vince Lovegrove, the Divinyls signed to the biggest-ever publishing deal with EMI America as the duo co-wrote hits such as Boys In Town, Only Lonely, Sleeping Beauty and the international hit, I Touch Myself, which charted at #2 on the US charts in 1991.

By this time the Divinyls were sharing management with Madonna and Michael Jackson. It was a deal that had stemmed from early and hard-earned American success, opening 1983’s iconic US Festival to over 150,000 people, being the focus of a double-page spread in the New York Times and touring with the heady likes of Aerosmith, The Ramones and The Cult.

While I Touch Myself was banned in certain parts of the world (including radio stations at home in Australia) it caused a stir with audiences as bras were raised at shows in salute and a new openness evolved in pop culture. The empowerment inspired by Amphlett was unstoppable and though she tragically passed away in 2013, she remains a feminine icon for then and now.

Throughout the band’s history, Mark McEntee impressed as a world-class songwriter and guitarist, and a highly-acclaimed musical arranger in the studio. He co-wrote I Touch Myself with Billy Steinberg (Like A Virgin, True Colors, Eternal Flame), had his song, Science Fiction, included in APRA’s ‘75th Anniversary Best 30 Australian Songs Of All Time’ and penned The Pretenders 1999 hit, Human On The Inside, for Chrissie Hynde. The Divinyls are inductees in the ARIA and Victorian Music halls of fame as proof that the songs will live on forever.

Feeling an organic need as a musician to perform the songs he co-wrote once again, McEntee will lead a major Divinyls tour in 2019. Joining him will be firebrand Baltimore-bred, LA-based singer/songwriter, Lauren Ruth Ward, original Blondie guitarist and Divinyls (1987-88) alumni, Frank Infante, and a cracking new Australian rhythm section featuring J Cortez and Malcolm Clarke to bring those hit tunes – from the heart and source – back to stages all over the world.

It’s time. And it’s also, as McEntee says, a Divinyls Mission.

See you on the road!

British/Brazilian Artistic Force Wax Wings Drops Club Ready Remixes of His ‘Gravedance’ EP | Stream

WAX WINGS – ‘GRAVEDANCE’ (REMIXES)

CLUB READY ‘GRAVEDANCE’ EP GETS RELOADED WITH FOUR INTENSE REMIXES

“GRAVEDANCE IS THE DEFINITION OF A PURE CLUB BANGER” – DJ MAG UK

LISTEN TO THE REMIX PACKAGE HERE

GRAVEDANCE REMIX EP LAUNCH PARTY TICKETS HERE

LABEL: THE WEIRD & THE WONDERFUL X SKINT
RELEASE DATE: OUT NOW

Wax Wings is an artist in the truest sense of the word from painting, fashion, graffiti, photography, art direction through to music. The young producer/DJ already has some impressive remix credentials under his belt including Maya Jane Coles’ Nocturnal Sunshine, Nimmo, The Presets, Eli & Fur and Vök, and has collaborated with artists such as Skunk Anansie’s Skin and Dead Can Dance’s Lisa Gerrard.

Holding a residency in London for the newly established, HE.SHE.THEY at Ministry Of Sound who’s mission statement is “A place without prejudice for people to be people”. Wax is allowed to fully express his musical style and lives up to DJ Mag’s ‘Ones To Watch for 2018’ tag, playing alongside acts such as Maya Jane Coles, Satoshi Tomiie and Ellen Allien. 2018 is shaping up to be one of his biggest years, having already played at the London Fashion Week Festival in February. Wax is lined up to play the opening party for this year’s IMS: Ibiza at Pacha, Ibiza. As well as dates at the world-famous Watergate, Berlin.

Ending 2017 in style, Wax Wings released his EP ‘Gravedance’ delivering six dancefloor focused weapons. This builds on the remarkable success of his first two EPs ‘System’ and ‘The Love Inside Me’ which gained strong support across the airwaves from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s B.Traits and Monki. He now returns with four intense remixes of the original cuts, reloaded and ready to go again.

Opening the EP Wax Wings leans on the talents of DJ/Producer & long-time friend ABSOLUTE. for the first of two remixes of ‘Gravedance’. Declared by Tiga as a ‘Future Star’, Absolute injects force and power into the original with a modulated bassline rippling throughout. Enlisting cultural provocateur Warboy for the second of those remixes, the underground veteran UK DJ/Producer offers up dominant basslines and theatrical hooks whilst retaining all the originals prominent vocal sample. Having played B2B with Wax Wings at the inaugural HE.SHE.THEY party, Warboy lends his experienced hand to the young producers Remix package.

D-Code & Psylence transform ‘Toxic Love’ from a straight down the line dark and tripped out Techno tool to a breakbeat injected groover, complete with dubby synth tones akin to the original. Completing the remix package is London based producer Venice Calypso, having previously remixed Wax Wings for his ‘The Love Inside Me’ EP. Sebastien is back with a driving remake of ‘Drunk’. Flipping the original and injecting the signature Venice Calypso, his version of ‘Drunk’ is primed for the dancefloor.

To celebrate the release Wax has joined forces with Warboy’s very own Friday nighter Shutdown at SEDITION (formally known as East Bloc) to throw a chaotic basement bash. Showcasing each remix artist and joined by a cast of experimental party makers and radical performers.

There are no words enough to describe the importance of Carsten Nicolai aka Alva Noto in the electronic music scene. Co-founder of the much respected Raster Noton label together with Olaf Bender aka Byetone and Frank Bretschneider, he is the pure example of how science can combine with art through audiovisual language. Together with Ryuichi Sakamoto, he composed the soundtrack for the acclaimed movie “The revenant” and in 2018 he released the album “Unieqav” on his new label Noton. At Festival Forte, he will be presenting his new spectacular show, which is an incredibly intense audiovisual experience that will take place inside the immersive castle walls. Robert Lippok, who will release his new album in 2018 onRaster Noton, will also present his new audiovisual show at Festival Forte.

Festival Forte is moving on to its 5th edition running from August 30 to September 2, 2018 in the Castle of Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal.

A new culture has been created, formed by a special audience that is dedicated and interested in the innovative proposals that the festival has to offer and which extend throughout the town of Montemor-o-Velho, the Castle, with the stage and the generative garden, the Camping site and the Esther de Carvalho Theater.

With the bar set very high, Festival Forte’s team transcends itself and embraces the challenge of making each edition more spectacular. The public expects it and deserves it. The artistic
choices stand up to this challenge and for the 2018 edition, the complex task of finding those who are at the level of the Forte’s requirements is fulfilled with audacity and determination.

Generative Art continues to be a central element in the creative process of Festival Forte, which will culminate with Jaygo Bloom’s installations in the castle garden and church.

The commitment to sustainability remains a concern, with the implementation of new measures that promote a greener environment, in addition to those already accomplished such as compostable loos, recyclable cups, paperless digital promotion and the cashless system that was awarded a prize in 2017 by the Ministry of the Environment, promoter of the “Sê-lo Verde” program.

We are all set for the most special edition of Festival Forte ever, which is the fruit of the contribution of all those who believe and support it, valuing an obsessive passion for art and innovation.

Mobilee to kick off annual rooftop series with
Patrice Bäumel on April 29th
● Ralf Kollmann´s label has announced that Patrice Bäumel will be in charge of kicking off its annual rooftop series, which will take place in The Gates Diagonal hotel (Barcelona) this year.
● Tim Green, Rodriguez Jr., Steve Bug, Radio Slave, Holmar, GHEIST, Timo Maas, dOP and Matthias Meyer will be also Mobilee´s guests in other dates with still a few names unrevealed.

Berlin-based Mobilee Records, propierty of Ralf Kollmann, returns to Barcelonaon April 29th with its acclaimed annual rooftop event series, which will run through October 7th with highlight events during Sonar week in June.

Ralf Kollmann shared a few thoughts on Mobilee’s upcoming rooftop summer series:

“I am very excited for the next rooftop season in Barcelona. We have been coming back every summer for over a decade now and have seen the city’s face and party culture changing over the years. No doubt this city is the hot spot for electronic music on a same level as Berlin or London-  just with better weather, view, spirit and architecture.

For the Mobilee events we decided to just bring one headliner DJ and let him take the audience on a journey in a very special and intimate environment. It’s gonna be an experience for the DJ´s and audience at the same time in this very special location on the top of The Gates Diagonal.”

The Gates Diagonal venue (formerly known as the Silken Diagonal) has undergone a complete renovation and will open its doors to the public first time on April 29. The parties are always intimate as the wood-paneled rooftop location includes a small pool and room for about 250 people.

Regarding the line-up Mobilee has announced that Patrice Bäumel, the renowned Dutch DJ and producer, will kick off annual rooftop series accompanied by Ralf Kollmann on April 29th. Patrice Bäumel will be followed by other outstanding artists such as Tim Green, Rodriguez Jr. -live-, Steve Bug, Radio Slave, Holmar, GHEIST, Timo Maas, dOP -live-, Matthias Meyer with more DJs to be announced soon.

Taking into account all what has been said, and waiting for news to come, there is no doubt that Mobilee rooftop series 2018 season will be the best.

In 2015, Austin Psych Fest, in its eighth year, changed its name to LEVITATION in honor of legendary Austin psychedelic band The 13th Floor Elevators. The film offers an immersive glimpse into the festival with interviews and performances by artists that played that weekend. Performances and interviews include: The 13th Floor Elevators, The Flaming Lips, The Black Angels, Jesus And Mary Chain, Sean Lennon, The Goastt, Thee Oh Sees, Mac Demarco, Lightning Bolt, Night Beats, Holy Wave, LA Witch, Fuzz (Ty Segall) and more. The film is set for a streaming / wide release later in 2018. For more info and to purchase tickets go here.
ABOUT LEVITATION
Founded in 2008 as Austin Psych Fest, by members of The Black Angels and friends, the independent event has sparked a movement, inspiring the creation of Psych Fests and similar events across the globe. Austin Psych Fest was renamed Levitation in honor of Austin’s psychedelic rock pioneers The 13th Floor Elevators, who reunited and performed at Levitation 2015 for the band’s 50th anniversary.
In addition to the flagship event in Austin, the group has curated Levitation events in France, Chicago and Vancouver, along with ongoing events in Austin and special events and showcases at Mexico City’s NRMAL, The Netherlands’ Le Guess Who, and a massive annual Levitation showcase at SXSW. Levitation France celebrated its 5th year in September 2017, at Le Quai in Angers, FR with sold out crowds.  Since 2010, The Reverberation Appreciation Society record label has released records by key bands in the psych and garage rock scene like Night Beats, Holy Wave, Ringo Deathstarr and many more – with new releases on the horizon.

At Moondance the best of classic and contemporary techno finds its home in the striking medieval Kamerlengo Fortress in Trogir, which was recently voted one of the world’s most beautiful island cities by National Geographic.

This perfect union of entrancing techno and extraordinary setting has seen Moondance grow from one night with 400 people to three nights with 9000 guests, in just five years. This year’s event will be the largest-ever, yet still maintain its intimate vibe.

Every detail of the event is carefully crafted, from the superb sound system to the visuals and video installations from international artists. Moreover, it has a relaxed, democratic atmosphere unique among electronic festivals. Ticket prices are kept low to ensure Moondance is accessible to all music-lovers. A hypnotic live reimagining of Brion Gysin’s legendary hallucinatory invention the Dream Machine; Created by otherworldly chanteuse and musical director Sophia Brous and multi-instrumentalist/composer Dave Harrington, with Brooklyn designers Wild Dogs International
Featuring a cast of revered international artists & musicians including historic Moroccan Sufi trance ensemble Master Musicians of Jajouka from Morocco, Throbbing Gristle’s Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, London cellist Oliver Coates, drummer Greg Fox, harpist Zeena Parkins, bassist Trevor Dunn, and many more special guests
“The world’s first work of art you look at with your eyes closed” – Brion Gysin
NEW YORK, NY (April 19th, 2018)–On May 11th, Red Bull Music Festival New York and Pioneer Works present Dream Machine–an extended immersive concert experience of state of the art concert design, ceiling-projected film, and live musical alchemy–resulting in a dazzling collision of mesmeric light, color and sound. Originally a stroboscopic flicker sculpture created by Brion Gysin and William Burroughs in the late 60s (see more here), the historic Dream Machine has been reimagined by Australian/New York interdisciplinary performer, chanteuse and musical director Sophia Brous, Darkside’s Dave Harrington and light, sound and projection designers Wild Dogs International. With the audience lying on the floor with eyes open and closed beneath a canopy of brilliant immersive film and color,Dream Machine weaves together an intensely mesmeric hallucinatory journey within a live musical ‘dream soundtrack’ taking concertgoers through the chapters of a night’s sleep in an extended hallucinatory experience. Tickets for both the 7:30pm and 10:30pm shows are on sale via nyc.redbullmusicfestival.com.
A global creative collaboration, the reimagining of Dream Machine was conceptualized and musically directed by David Harrington (USA) and Sophia Brous (AUS). Harrington is a renowned NYC-based bass player with jazz roots and most widely known as half of Darkside with Nicolas Jaar, and Brous is a cross-disciplinary musician, vocalist and performance-maker based in New York and Melbourne, Australia who is current artist-in-resident of National Sawdust and director of the Supersense Festival, and collaborates with the likes of Kimbra, David Byrne, Marc Ribot, Colin Stetson and Caroline Polachek, . The installation was designed by Brooklyn-based Wild Dogs International, who first worked on Red Bull Music Academy’s inaugural NYC event series in 2013, and served as the visual designer of numerous Red Bull Music Festival performances including Hardcore Activity in Progress (2014), Bounce Ballroom (2014) and Electronic Africa (2015), as well as the Kairos exhibition which launched the Red Bull Arts NYC space (2013). Performers include the legendary Moroccan Sufi trance ensembleThe Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar, industrial pioneer Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, British cellist and electronic producer Oliver Coates, harpistZeena Parkins, drummer Greg Fox, bassist Trevor Dunn.
The Dream Machine’s above-head immersive cinema experience features the work of notable filmmakers Ben Russell (USA), an artist and filmmaker whose work lies at the intersection of ethnography and psychedelia; Japanese expanded cinema artist Makino Takeshi (JPN), whose work has recently been shown at Tate Modern, BFI London, and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Documenta 14; and recent Guggenheim Fellowship recipient Peter Burr (USA)–a master of computer animation that hovers on the boundary between abstraction and figuration, presented internationally by various institutions including Documenta 14, Athens; MoMA PS1, New York; and The Barbican Centre and Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The Dream Machine is soundtracked by Harrington and Brous’ ‘Dream Score’ framework, a mesmeric chapter-by-chapter performance composition cuing an ensemble of extraordinary musicians to weave a dream soundtrack through different scenes of audio-visual immersion. Players performing the Dream Machine soundtrack along with the Dave Harrington Group and the vocal stylings of Sophia Brous include boundary pushing icon Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (UK) ofThrobbing Gristle and Psychic TV — a cult musician, poet, performance artist and occultist who held a close relationship with both Gysin and Burroughs (read morehere) who greatly influenced h/er work. Similarly, the legendary, ancient Sufi Trance ensemble the Master Musicians of Jajouka: Bachir Attar and Mustapha Attar (Morocco) have a long history with Gysin, Burroughs and the early days of Dream Machine through their historic collaborations with the Rolling Stones’ Brian Jones, Ornette Coleman and Bill Laswell. The multi-instrumentalist/composer/improviser and Bjork-collaborator, Zeena Parkins (USA) is a pioneer of contemporary harp practice and performance, who reimagines the instrument as a “sound machine of limitless capacity.” Electronic producer Oliver Coates (UK) known as Radiohead’s “secret weapon” and for his work with Mica Levi and Jonny Greenwood, who he most recently worked with on the Oscar-nominated score forPhantom Thread. Rounding out the rhythm section are legendary bassist Trevor Dunn (USA), who has worked with Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantômas), the Melvins and John Zorn, as well as black metal (Liturgy), electronic and jazz drummer Greg Fox (USA), violinist and composer C Spencer and saxophonistsArrington De Dionyso and Stuart Bogie (Arcade Fire, Antibalas).
“Subjects report dazzling lights of unearthly brilliance and color… Elaborate geometric constructions of incredible intricacy… like brightly colored dreams.”
– William S. Burroughs

DO NOT SLEEP, to host the main room at Amnesia, Ibiza

by the partae April 12, 2018
written by the partae

DO NOT SLEEP IBIZA’S FASTEST EMERGING HOUSE & TECHNO CLUB BRAND JOINS FORCES WITH ABODE ANNOUNCING NEW AMNESIA RESIDENCY EVERY THURSDAY DURING SUMMER 2018

 Do Not Sleep

Thursdays, Main Room Amnesia Ibiza

14th June to 27th September 2018

Do Not Sleep over the past few years has forged both a strong and resilient reputation with Ibiza’s underground.  With an impeccable track record of carefree dance floor camaraderie, Do Not Sleep has long been flying the flag for quality music as a strong party proposal. Their family of DJ’s and house music protagonists have been exploring the sounds of the underground to fuel Ibizan nights during past residencies at Privilege, Space and Sankeys. As the 2018 season is upon us they find their new spiritual home at one of the best-known and internationally renowned clubs Amnesia.

Summer 2018 sees Do NOT SLEEP joining forces with ABODE – another fast-emerging UK club brand which shares a parallel ethos alongside a strong international following and fanbase.  Delivering a contrasting but complimentary house sound, the two brands joining forces will unquestionably form a standout Thursday event for Ibiza in 2018 filling the space left by the legendary club brand Cream.

Do Not Sleep are proud to be hosting Thursdays at Amnesia with Abode who are fresh from their recent sell out Printworks, London show and several festival outings.

Long time resident DJ / Producer Darius Syrossian will return to the Do Not Sleep booth for 2018 and alongside both peers and protégés deliver and steer the underground events music-first policy.  A host of leading international underground talent will showcase the deeper and darker electronic sound perfectly suited and designed for the Amnesia main room.

Commenting on the approaching 2018 Season, Do Not Sleep’s Neil Evans states:

“When we first started Do Not Sleep I remember clearly that there was a strong desire to be nomadic, holding the ability to take our party vibe around the island in high regard. We have a big Thursday slot to humbly fill; but we are confident that the main room at Amnesia fits our sound entirely. Darker tracks that have real soul translate well in that space”

Darius Syrossian added further thought:  “It’s one of the few rooms left in ibiza where you can play both hard techno but also music which has a bit more depth & is a bit more soulful, both sounds work equally as good in that room and the sound system is deadly!

Do Not Sleep’s clubbing philosophy has been transparent from the start – inaugural parties capturing the excitement of unannounced guests and international artists paired with the adrenaline and atmosphere that they have now become tethered with.

Fundamentally rooted in the Ibizan spirit and focussing on delivering contemporary DJ’s across leading and emerging names of the underground scene there is a no-gimmick and inclusive emphasis that has successfully seen Do Not Sleep create parties around the world.

Red Bull Music Festival New York Announces Reggaetón: Hasta Abajo with The Noise (Ivy Queen, DJ Nelson and more)

by the partae April 11, 2018
written by the partae
Reggaetón: Hasta Abajo with The Noise live (Ivy Queen, DJ Nelson, Ranking Stone, Alberto Stylee, Wiso G, DJ Negro), DJ Lobo, Rosa Pistola, and Riobamba.
NEW YORK, NY (April 10th, 2018)- Red Bull Music Festival New York returns this May for a sixth year with another diverse program of original events, world premieres, and talks with icons and innovators. The festival’s Hasta Abajo (Get Down) event, a high-voltage tribute to tropical urban sound, has added Reggaetón royalty Ivy Queen to a bill that spotlights the impact of genre pioneers and the new wave of Latinx culture shifters. Tickets are on sale via nyc.redbullmusicfestival.com.
Over the last two decades Reggaetón has become a globally dominating genre that increasingly delivers record-smashing impact on music sales, streams and pop-culture influence. Hasta Abajo features Reggaetón trailblazers Ivy Queen, DJ Nelson, Ranking Stone, Alberto Stylee, Wiso G, and DJ Negro, performing as The Noise, the group who helped blaze the pathway for the genre’s international trajectory from the barrios of Puerto Rico to the world. Also performing is industry legend DJ Lobo, and rising música urbana stars, Riobamba and Rosa Pistola, two artists who are leading Reggaetón’s evolution from the streets of Brooklyn and Mexico City, respectively. The event takes place Saturday, May 19th at Uptown Manhattan’s famed Latino nightlife hub, La Marina.
Ivy Queen, aka “La Diva” and the “Queen of Reggaetón”, launched her career in the late nineties with The Noise. Her empowering message and lyrics have and will continue to inspire women across generations and nations, including fellow Latina musician Cardi B., to hold their own mic and speak their truth. The collaborators orbiting her chart-topping discography, which features classics like “Yo Quiero Bailar”, include Wyclef, Pitbull, Sasha, Don Omar, and Edinta Nazario. Her notorious appetite for style reinvention and her signature long fingernails, along with a string of award-winning performances, keeps the spotlight firmly in her clutch, helping her maintain her iconic status as one of the most prominent forces in Latin music.
Emerging Latinx fatales, Rosa Pistola and Riobamba, will also blaze the “Hasta Abajo” stage, showcasing female excellence and futurism within an often male-dominated genre. Rosa Pistola gained international notoriety for her affinity for global bass tunes and “Perreo”, a gritty and sultry form of Latin dance and song derived from the roots of dancehall. It’s considered a supporting subgenre, acting as a vein extended from Reggaetón’s main arteries. Multi-faceted Ecuadorian-Lithuanian and Brooklyn-based DJ, producer, activist and Latinx culture usher, Riobamba spins a web of hypnotizing mashups, blending original music and classic tracks. Together, this powerful ensemble of history-makers will ignite passion in live music fans with a nostalgic reason to get down and give the community a space to celebrate and rise up.
Taking place throughout May, the widely praised annual festival has become a New York City institution featuring performances by today’s most forward-looking musicians; tributes to legendary artists, scenes, and sounds; and conversations with impactful, innovative musicians. The shows will unfold throughout the boroughs at some of NYC’s most unique settings, from iconic institutions to uncharted spaces completely re-configured for the occasion.

In addition to the events, Red Bull Music Festival New York will tell original stories through editorial content on RedBullMusic.com. Red Bull Radio (www.redbullradio.com) will also feature a month of NYC-focused programming, including event live streams, special broadcasts from Red Bull Arts New York, and more.
