Fresh Wollongong alternative rock outfit Drift release soaring new single Begin just in time for their hometown headline show on June 3.
Swimming in jangly guitar layers and alluring vocal melodies, Begin dives into feelings of heartbreak and the pain of losing someone as an anchor, reflecting on the past and wanting to reclaim the present.
Vocalist Callum McCombie explains, “Begin was written from the depths of that feeling of wanting to hold onto something or someone you love so much that it becomes a detriment. Begin is trying to start again. A new beginning was the end of this period for me, and was a great step towards improving myself and the situation.”
Working with producer and engineer Chris Peruch, Drift fully embrace the sensibility of their shoe gaze and emo influences on Begin, carving out soundscapes that are equal parts powerful and moving for fans of bands like My Bloody Valentine, DIIV and Fiddlehead.
The Begin music video and visual artwork portray the band’s humble beginnings, showcasing a performance aspect where the band are jamming in a homely garage space, juxtaposed against an abstract and chaotic chess match between an angel and the devil. Drift are set to headline a show at Seeker Brewing in Unanderra on June 3 to celebrate the release of their new single, supported by friends in Busted Head Racket and Pictures With Yuki. Tickets are already moving quickly, and are available here. In addition, Drift have also announced they’ll support post-punk band dust on their upcoming et cetera, etc tour in Sydney on June 9, and will have more shows to announce very soon.
Drift is a project that has always set out to create easy listening material with emotional soundscapes. Forming in early 2020, Drift began as the solo shoegaze/emo project for frontman McCombie. Shortly after McCombie started working on music alone, the missing puzzle pieces fell into place when Nelson Thurgate (guitar), Ruben Dragone (drums) and Marley Mondzheyovsky (bass) joined the fold and solidified the outfit as a four-piece.
Drift have since been warmly welcomed into the live music circuit, selling out multiple hometown shows, sharing the stage with fellow Wollongong act TOTTY on a national tour in 2022 as well as showcasing their sound on the Factory Theatre stage at Glider Festival the year before.
The band has been hard at work developing a body of work that will see its release over the course of the year following the positive response from previous single At Last, which saw play on triple j Unearthed, a number of positive Unearthed reviews as well as play on triple j‘s Home and Hosed.

From the 12th to the 16th of July 2023 one of the biggest electronic music festivals in Europe has a very special birthday. AIRBEAT ONE celebrates its 20th anniversary. What started in 2001 as a small party for 1,000 guests at the Neustadt-Glewe airfield has now become one of the big mega festivals with up to 65,000 visitors per day. Anyone who wants to be there in 2023 should hurry, because two months before the start, over 40,000 tickets have already been sold.
This year’s edition is themed “Edition Home – Germany”, because milestone birthdays are best celebrated at home with family and all friends. It should be a gigantic birthday party with guests from over 50 countries. Also a lot of the best DJs and acts will fly in from all over the world to the tranquil town of Neustadt-Glewe in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to congratulate AIRBEAT ONE. Who will be at this year’s edition is confirmed now with the announcement of the Full Line Up.
Only the biggest DJs and acts on the planet will perform on the epochal showpiece of the AIRBEAT ONE festival, the “Mainstage” with its monstrous dimensions of up to 180 meters wide and 50 meters high. Here alone, 16 artists from DJ Mag UK’s prestigious Top 100 ranking will perform: ALOK, Boris Brejcha, Charlotte de Witte, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Fisher, Hardwell, KSHMR, Morten, Oliver Heldens, Paul van Dyk, Steve Aoki, Sunnary James & Ryan Marciano, Timmy Trumpet, Vini Vici, W&W and Will Sparks. True to the motto “Edition Home – Germany”, the blockbusters from Germany will also be on the main stage: Fritz Kalkbrenner, Marten Horger, Neelix, Paul Kalkbrenner and Scooter. And with Öwnboss, the absolute top of the line from Brazil will be flying in.
Techno is the defining sound on the Arena Stage, which was added to the stage program just a few years ago. Prominent names from the important DJ Mag Top 100 ranking are also represented here: Claptone, Danny Avila, Deborah de Luca, Nora En Pure, Reinier Zonneveld and Vintage Culture. In line with the theme, high-ranking German techno artists will also come to the Arena, such as Adana Twins, Anne Clue, Moritz Hofbauer and SKIY. But that’s not all. Other international big names and upcoming artists of the techno scene like Camelphat, Enrico Sangiuliano, i hate models, Indira Paganotto, Kölsch, LEVT, Lilly Palmer, Prophecy and Tinlicker will be performing. The Hardstyle stage of the AIRBEAT ONE Festival will show up as Eagle Stage for the “Edition Home – Germany”. The acts on this stage resemble the Line Up of a dedicated Hardstyle Festival. The legendary Terminal stands for the styles Electro, Tech House and Tropical. After this phenomenal line-up of stars on the other stages, the Second Stage won’t be left out and presents a total of 33 top names of the Goa and Psytrance scene. International acts to include Sean Paul, UB40, Shaggy and much more
May 15, 2023: Australia’s biggest reggae music festival Jammin will hit Australia again this coming summer with the 2024 line-up to be released at 7am this morning. The festival features an expanded international line-up compared to its debut season in 2023 with superstars Sean Paul, UB40 and Shaggy all set to perform. Also hitting the stage will be legendary Fugees member and solo artist Wyclef Jean, as well as Bob Marley’s son Julian Marley.
Jammin Festival 2024 will be staged in Sydney and on the Gold Coast over the weekend of Feb 3-4, with both locations set to ignite in a celebration of good vibes, fun and culture. The two-day event will offer music for every reggae lover. Also on the line-up will be Hawaii’s Polynesian reggae star Fiji, US sensation J Boog and Jamaican reggae fusion band Third World. New Zealand favourites House of Shem and Sons of Zion will perform, as will Hawaiian-cum Samoan reggae band Common Kings.
Event spokesperson Matthew Spratt says next year’s festival will be bigger and better than this year’s inaugural event, which sold out in all venues. “We’re excited to be bringing some of the world’s biggest reggae artists to Australian shores – but this time with a bigger and better line-up. Australians have been craving this type of festival, with over 50,000 tickets selling at the 2023 event.”

Paul Kalkbrenner comes back to Decibel Open Aor for the third time. “Prince of Love” was one of DJ Sammy´s first productions. The Spanish Star-DJ and hit producer, twice listed on DJ Mag’s Top 100, first released this single in 1997 with Carisma.
It charted at #24 on the German charts, reached #1 in the European dance charts and stayed for 15 weeks on the hitlist.
Now the Hamburg-based DJ and hit producer Special D. has taken the track and refreshed it completely.
“The track `Prince of Love´ has always been something special to me, the first one for me in the role of a lead artist, as well my first chart hit as a main artist. I received so many requests for cover versions or new mixes from all over the world, but declined every single one… except this one time! That was when Special D. reached out to me. I’ve known him for quite a long time now and couldn’t say no to his idea of taking the original vocals of Carisma and putting it together with his sense of the song. So it came out fresh and absolutely upfront,” explains the DJ-star.
Special D. aka Dennis Horstmann is a German DJ and dance music-producer, who landed a hit in Europe with the cover of Nena´s “Nur geträumt” back in 2003.
Top 4 in Ireland, top 6 in UK, top 10 in the Netherlands and top 14 in Germany paved the way for him up to the TMF Awards, which are considered the most important music awards in the Netherlands, in which he won the ´best international dance artist´ category.
His other chart hits include “Home Alone”, “Nothing I Won’t Do”, “You” or “Here I Am“. Also the “Suck My Dick!” number from his “Dickheadz” side project (together with Andy Judge) was even picked for the Hollywood blockbuster “Crank: High Voltage” with Jason Statham. Recently, Special D. collaborations with Le Shuuk (“You”) as well as W&W and Harris & Ford (“Come With Me”) caused a stir on the international dance charts and streaming portals.

Jackson Street Presents UK rap star, JAY1. The charismatic rapper is confirmed to be touching down in Sydney on Tuesday 3rd of January 2023 for an exclusive one night only show at Oxford Art Factory. JAY1 will be showcasing songs from his forthcoming mixtape ‘Sorry I’m Late’ and fan favourites.
Hailing all the way from Coventry with a self-assured swagger JAY1 has had a meteoric rise after the single “Your Mrs” made its way to the 18th spot on the U.K. Charts, reached over 1M views in just 3 days and was closely followed by another top 20 UK chart hit, “Mocking It”.
JAY1 started taking music seriously after moving from North London to the historically student-based city of Coventry in 2016. Bold, confident vocals and candid lyrics gave the U.K. MC a fundamental versatility despite often letting his lyrics speak for themselves on minimalist trap beats, he demonstrated his ability to adapt to everything from club-rap to Afroswing.
After delivering freestyles on two popular U.K. platforms, Bl@ckbox and Hardest Out, JAY1 saw his first taste of success with “That’s My Bae” which blew up through online video channels before inspiring its own freestyle challenge. A body of work that culls from various styles weaved together into what the band appropriately calls “A Wilhelm Sampler,” Lose Your Delusion, A Wilhelm Scream’s first full-length offering in nine years, finds the accomplished rock quintet at its most daring, experimental and cohesive.
After all these years, A Wilhelm Scream have lived their lives and did whatever they needed to do to get to the point where they could assemble and write the songs that absolutely needed to be written. Each song on Lose Your Delusion is a product of never cutting corners at any point, be it with writing, recording, practice, or performance. Providing commentary on the past few years and the toll it’s taken in regards to our collective stress, anxiety, frustration and panic, the album serves as a pillar in the band’s rich and evolving legacy.
