After much deliberation, the G.O.A.T ain’t goin’ anywhere, baby! Approved to go ahead Saturday 12 February, today The Mountain Goat Valley Crawl is thrilled to share the set times for 2022.

The festival has changed the need to register – No ticket needed, just click attending on the Facebook event and assemble the giddy herd for one helluva good time.

It’s almost time to dance the night away with some of the best national acts on offer. Kicking off from 6 pm, the lineup includes psychedelic four-piece The Lazy Eyes, Australiana jangle-rockers Flowertruck, and alt-pop heavyweight Bec Sandridge. Don’t forget to check out the man from Cronulla, Adam Newling; it’ll be hard to resist coming to see Adam swoon the crowd with his triple j Hottest 100 winning hit ‘Sweetness’. Melbourne sweethearts, RAThammock! are going to be there with their catalogue of earworm-bops, and don’t miss the chance to get lost in the hypnotic beats of Milan Ring. The cherry on top of an already epic night, Kwame, finishing the crawl off with the high-energy rap that has made his name unforgettable.  Alongside the already absolutely packed lineup are two new additions, The Empty Threats, an alternative psych-rock five-piece from Adelaide and Gold Coast indie-rockers, Seasoning.  These additions come to the lineup as the Mountain Goat Valley Crawl, unfortunately, loses The Tinderxoes and 90Ivy.

If this night isn’t already the greatest thing since the Mountain Goat Valley Crawl 2021, then strap yourself in, because the Crawl has one more thing up its sleeve. Punters are invited to the official afterparty at The Brightside Brisbane; Where a band too awesome and cool to announce right now will play a high-energy late-night set. Joining the super-secret band will be Brisbane legends Bugs and Sweater Curse who will be getting behind the decks to deliver straight-fire DJ sets

Look forward to trotting through the iconic Fortitude Valley, and checking out nine of its most renowned venues. Hosting the hordes are old favourites, The Zoo, The Brightside, Black Bear Lodge, Woolly Mammoth, and Rics Backyard. Alongside them newcomers, Suzie Wongs Good Time Bar, a New York-style hang-out that is quickly becoming a regular Brisbane haunt. Organisers advise festival attendees that each venue will work on a first-in best-dressed basis, so make sure to get there early.

So, what’s the wait? Click attending, throw on some party pants, and come boogie the night away to some of the most exciting newcomers in the Australian music scene. I mean why not? It’s completely free and there’s guaranteed good beer and good times.

The Grogans reveal gnarly b-side single ‘Be Your Man’ ahead of NSW + VIC launch shows + Upcoming Hockey Dad tour dates

by the partae February 2, 2022
written by the partae

“The Gogans continue full throttle with a blast of utterly cathartic garage rock with all essential ingredients present and accounted for. A sneery delivery, legs apart, hands on hips, lips pursed and arched eyebrows in a leather jacketed embrace. [Be Your Man is] a bit of rock’n’roll fun delivered with the utmost dedication to the craft along with a rousing chorus and a buzz saw blitz.” – Arun Kendall, Backseat Mafia

Adaptive and reactive Melbourne outfit The Grogans return with their first music of the year on their explosive new offering ‘Be Your Man’. The flip side to its sister release on transparent red vinyl, ‘Just A Kid’, which dropped at the tail end of last year, ‘Be Your Man’ continues the trio’s legacy of lucrative, finger-on-the-pulse songwriting that reflects and responds to the ever-changing world around them. In 2022, that world calls for some classic call and response punk rock, evident in multitudes on ‘Be Your Man’.

Out now via Cousin Will Records, the single sees the lads; Quin Grunden (Vocals, Guitar, Bass), Angus Vasic (Guitar, BV) and Jordan Lewis (Drums, BV), at their most urgent and visceral. Grunden’s heady vocals speak of desperately clinging to a lover that’s slipping through his grasp, while Vasic and Lewis’ combined frenetic energy dare the frontman to lose focus. The result is an electrifying malaise of sound, and one that is destined to erupt on the live stage.

STREAM / EMBED ‘BE YOUR MAN’
STREAM / EMBED ‘BE YOUR MAN’ VIA BANDCAMP

“We wanted to write something heavier as we really enjoy that side of our live show. We wanted it to be in your face but still within our nature. It’s a song about wanting to prove yourself to a partner and wanting to step up to the table but it’s still in a simple manner a classic love track all wrapped up in a punkish wrapping. Dig ya teeth in and take what you will from it.” – Gus Vasic, The Grogans

The Grogans are a truly unmissable live act, deploying an extensive variety of stylistic influences with cohesion and conviction on stage. Angus and Quin’s combined surf jangle and punctuated guitar riffage are propelled by drummer Jordan Lewis’ well oiled machine, while Quin’s viscous vocals range from reverb drenched upstart chants to honeyed croons. Having supported the likes of Ocean Alley, Maddy Jane, Northeast Party House, Nai Palm, Drunk Mums, The Chats and Polish Club, The Grogans will soon take their captivating live show on the road again supporting Hockey Dad on their 2022 Regional Tour, with single launch shows penned for Torquay (new show), Sydney (sold out) and Wollongong (selling fast).

NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA IN COLLABORATION WITH MELBOURNE ART FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF THE MELBOURNE DESIGN FAIR

by the partae February 2, 2022
written by the partae

2 February 2022: Presented as part of Melbourne Design Week, the inaugural Melbourne Design Fair (16 – 20 March 2022) is a commercial showcase of limited edition, rare and one-of-a kind collectable design by Australia’s leading emerging and established contemporary designers and designer-makers. An initiative of the National Gallery of Victoria in collaboration with the Melbourne Art Foundation, the Fair breaks new ground in the presentation, promotion and sale of collectible contemporary design in Australia and will offer audiences a unique cultural experience with all the design works presented available for purchase.

Melbourne Design Fair is a key event within the Victorian government backed Melbourne Design Week program, and the first of its kind in Australia to bring together designers, design organisations, agencies, studios and galleries with collectors to meet and do business over five days at Warehouse 16. 28 Duke Street in Abbotsford.

The Fair will showcase collectible contemporary design works across two platforms: PRESENT where galleries, design organisations, agencies and studios mount dedicated displays by the design creatives they represent, and SELECT, a curated exhibition featuring the best works by emerging and established designers and designer-makers from across Australia. Works across both platforms will be available for purchase.

PRESENT includes presentations by thirteen of Australia’s leading galleries, design organisations, agencies, and studios. Participation in the inaugural Fair, curated by NGV includes Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert (Sydney), Sophie Gannon Gallery (Melbourne), Studio Roland Snooks (Melbourne), Sullivan+Strumpf (Sydney), Broached Commissions (Melbourne), Agency Projects (Melbourne), Christopher Boots (Melbourne), C. Gallery (Melbourne), Craft (Melbourne), JamFactory (Adelaide), Local Design (Sydney), Modern Times (Melbourne) and Design Tasmania (Tasmania).

SELECT brings together over thirty-five Australian design creatives in a presentation curated by Simone LeAmon, NGV’s Hugh Williamson Curator of Contemporary Design and Architecture. Works for sale will manifest in a compelling exhibition comprising a mix of Australian design luminaries and rising stars, including Dale Hardiman, Ashley Eriksmoen, Emery and Poole, Pirjo Haikola, Elliot Bastianon, Marta Figueiredo, Jordan Fleming, Adam Goodrum, Brodie Neill, Ella Saddington, Susan Cohn, James Lemon, Delissa Walker, Helen Kontouris, Jon Goulder, Andrew Carvolth, Cassie Leatham, Anna Varendorff and Damien Wright, among others.

Providing an unrivalled opportunity to view, discover and purchase significant works of collectable contemporary design by Australian and New Zealand designers, Melbourne Design Fair will include a program of talks and conversations with exhibiting designers, design curators, and critics to broaden awareness of the contemporary collectable design scene in Australia and internationally, and a film series presented by major partner Mercedes-Benz Australia, offering further insight into the creative practices and design work of participating designers.

Martin Pakula, Acting Minister for Creative Industries, said: “The NGV and the Melbourne Art Foundation joining forces for Melbourne Design Fair showcases Melbourne’s best talents while creating economic opportunity for local designers. Melbourne Design Fair will be a highlight of Melbourne Design Week 2022.”

Tony Ellwood AM, Director of the National Gallery of Victoria, said: “Presented in partnership with the Melbourne Art Foundation, Melbourne Design Fair builds on the NGV’s long-standing commitment to the local design sector and its practitioners. The Fair is a new and innovative opportunity to showcase the extraordinary work of our talented designers, galleries and studios. Bringing together the design sector and its supporters for the very first time, this event is a unique proposition in Australia and proudly positions design as an integral part of the artistic and fiscal vitality of our creative industries.”

Maree Di Pasquale, CEO of Melbourne Art Foundation, said: “Melbourne Design Fair marks a significant moment for design in Australia. Established in response to the increasing demand from collectors to have access to highly collectable contemporary design on Australian shores, the Fair will be a true celebration of design culture and commerce in this country. Melbourne Art Foundation is delighted to collaborate on the vision of the National Gallery of Victoria curatorial team to deliver this national first.  A platform for investment and innovation, Melbourne Design Fair will bring together the region’s most influential designers and makers, collectors, curators, and critics to cultivate a new commercial market for collectable design.

Simone LeAmon, The Hugh Williamson Curator of Contemporary Design and Architecture, National Gallery of Victoria said: “Collectible contemporary design is cultural production reflecting our time, offering alternative points of view, commentary or insights into the design, and making of objects anchored to function and the rituals of everyday life. Audiences will find prototypes, limited edition, limited serial production and one-of-a-kind, works on offer. Collectible design invites us to explore and contemplate Australian material culture through the convergence of ideas, materials and making, which is what makes the Melbourne Design Fair an event not to be missed.”

Melbourne Design Fair (16 – 20 March 2022) is an initiative of the National Gallery of Victoria delivered in collaboration with the Melbourne Art Foundation.

Located at Warehouse 16, 28 Duke Street in Abbotsford, ticket sales and a complete program of participating galleries, designers and events will be announced via designfair.melbourne in early February.

WANDERERS share long anticipated self-titled EP, featuring new single ‘MOLLY’

by the partae January 31, 2022
written by the partae

Band shares debut US TV performance, announces SXSW & 2022 tour dates

Long established as one of South Australia’s premier songwriting and touring outfits, Wanderers have stepped into a new creative domain in recent years.

Bringing together influences from across decades of soul, rock and pop luminaries; channeling in with contemporary flair and songwriting skill, the group have fashioned for themselves a sonic identity that exists strongly between a vintage cool and a central sound that is refreshingly new.

The new Wanderers EP, their third and first since 2017’s Something For A Distraction, arrives as they prepare to return to the United States for SXSW, as well as announcing their headline EP tour upon their return for April and May. The release of the Wanderers EP follows on from the band’s debut US TV performance on Nashville’s News4.

The Wanderers EP comprises five tracks of soulful and rich guitar-driven music that is a testament to the creative dynamic between bandmates Dusty Lee Stephensen, Matt Birkin and their cast of long-term collaborators and live band. Stephensen writes with an old-soul edge; his lyricism a masterclass in personal storytelling (‘Malibu’, ‘Nothing In This World’).

“As 2020 hit, our recording dreams were coming true – we were about to head over to record an album in LA at Studio 606, Foo Fighters HQ. The home of the famous SoundCity desk, responsible for capturing many of our favourite records. All this while set amongst the backdrop of the California coastline, would have been a setting so fitting for our music.

We put those plans on ice, and focused on this EP, capturing some of our most loved tracks from touring and you can see the touches of that plan in the artwork and songs. We threw ourselves into recording at a collection of our favourite Adelaide studios – Wildflower, Wundenbergs, The Orchard; so we’re excited to have this one out, and gearing up to get on the road and share it with the world.”
WANDERERS

Songs like ‘Make It On My Own’ and ‘Penny’ exude the brightness and optimism Wanders brought to the project from the jump. Harmonically strong and rich in melodies that give us energy akin to Lime Cordiale and The Moving Stills, it’s music like this that has bolstered Wanderers’ presence in recent years as a band to watch out of SA.

The EP’s latest release, ‘Molly’ is another example of the easy wavelength the outfit are on when it comes to songwriting and arrangement.

Of writing the track Stephensen said, “‘Molly’ was conceptualised on a whirlwind trip to Lorne, a beach side town south of Melbourne, that hosts one of the biggest NYE music festivals in the country. I got myself into a jam where I had to complete a gig in Adelaide at 1am on New Years Eve and perform in Lorne at midday, less than 12 hours later. (see: ‘yes man’ in the dictionary)

Leaving myself no other option, I finished my new years performance, jumped straight in the car and drove the 9 hours non-stop to Lorne, drinking more frozen ice coffee and energy drinks than the average person might drink in a week along the way. I made it, performed the gig, crashed in a hot tent for half an hour, and woke up at the most bad-ass festival in the country, feeling like a little less than a shell of a human.

I remember thinking that this would be a terrible time to meet the girl of my dreams. If we struck up a conversation, started getting to know each other, I would have to abort at some point, I could feel my time was running out.’”

The release of the Wanderers EP lines up with the band’s triumphant return to live shows, having given fans in their hometown a taste of what’s to come with a sold out show at The Gov in Adelaide in December 2021.

In March, Wanderers will join a strong Australian contingent of artists including Eliza Hull, Children Collide, Alex The Astronaut and Tom West in Austin, Texas for this year’s SXSW festival. Upon their return to Australia, Wanderers’ attention will be turning to their headline tour, on sale now.

“We’ve really been missing being able to tour… so we’re looking forward to a bunch of uninterrupted gallivanting around the globe in our future.” WANDERERS

LISTEN/PLAY

PRAISE FOR WANDERERS

“…thanks to this song’s sprightly guitar work, shimmering falsetto vocals and buoyant vibes, you’re likely to get a secondhand high just from listening to it.”
Billboard (‘Nothing In This World’)“…Stephensen’s falsetto weaving in and out of funky instrumentation accented with wailing sax…”
Flood Magazine“Channelling full 70s disco rock, Wanderers utilise the cheesy 70s synth strings and drum machines in to a fun-fuelled, loved-up groove. The falsetto vocals, and THAT bass line are musical sunshine, making it difficult not to move your body when this track is pumping.”

PRODUCER SAM FORD AND HIS TONE CITY RECORDING STUDIO LAUNCHES LABEL AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WA STUDIO ANNOUNCES EXPANSION PLANS, ROSTER AND LAUNCH EVENT

by the partae January 28, 2022
written by the partae

Tone City Recording is one of WA’s premier boutique studios, with Sam Ford at the helm working with some of Australia’s most talented and sonically diverse names. As a new year gets underway, Tone City is ready to take its next steps (read: strides) forward in its evolution.

Having established as one of Western Australia’s proficient and in demand producers, Ford (POND, Birds of Tokyo, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets) has been working tirelessly in recent years to execute a special creative vision: to establish a recording company and music label that would represent the best talent being nurtured out West, and bring the goods to the rest of the county.

2022 sees the vision become a reality, with the launch of the official Tone City Records label and the debut of the Tone City Artist Development Program. While the recording studios themselves undergo expansion, with an additional recording space currently under construction in WA’s South West, Tone City are concentrating their efforts on their wildly talented roster and growing their presence not just at home, but beyond.

Tone City Records is home to a roster of artists who are currently making their impact and presence felt nationally (SUPATHICK, DICE, Romeo Walker), as well as those who represent the fresh new wave of WA-bred music leaders (Siobhan Cotchin, Nectar). And as these artists continue to flourish in 2022, the Tone City Artist Development Program exists to bolster their efforts and elevate their artistry.

“Tone City Records is an independent record label designed to assist and develop emerging Australian artists. The Tone City AD program for 2022 will support in creating industry mentorship through the entirety of the artist’s project; including production, mixing, marketing, release schedule and event management.

TCR is like a family – it is built on the artists and myself having the same vision/ambitions and having a mutual connection both creatively and through personal and working relationships.”
Sam Ford, Tone City Records

The official launch of Tone City Records is set to be marked by a special live music event at the Freo Social on February 26th. Featuring live sets from the Tone City roster, as well as performances by fellow artists including Project Bexx, Ken Paolo, Claudie Joy and The Joyboys, King Blue and Banjo Lucia, the entire community is encouraged to come along and celebrate the opening of WA’s newest creative hub.

PRAISE FOR TONE CITY RECORDS

“I always love chatting about music with Sam. Everything from making it, to releasing it. He really gets it. Being in the studio with him is a dream too and always fun. Super excited to see where he takes his record label.”
Kevin Parker, Tame Impala

“Sam is one of the few producers I trust when I’m sharing my creative space. That’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to get the best out of your art.”
Ian Kenny, Birds of Tokyo

“Sam Ford is one of Australia’s greatest producers, his taste in music is unparalleled and his unwavering support for artists from all walks of life has consistently elevated the WA music scene. Tone City Records is a vibe and I’m digging it!”
Abbe May

“Extremely stoked for Mr. Ford to be launching his new record label. The man’s already a hero but now he’s assured his statue. It’s always a great pleasure to work with Sam, he’s been a pillar of the Perth music industry for many years. It’s a fantastic opportunity for every young or established band to work with such a brilliant producer, a tip-top gentleman with an amazing studio and an even finer tuned ear, I can’t wait to hear what the future sounds like.”
Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

“Sam has been the keystone in giving life to our ideas, allowing us to share them with the world. He has opened doors for us that we could not have on our own and in doing so, given us the optimism and drive to expand our horizons and look at a career in the arts.”

Secret Project Festival announces full line-up for debut on Portuguese coastline with Adam Beyer, Charlotte de Witte, Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex, Paul Kalkbrenner, and many more
Secret Project Festival will take place June 17-19, at Portimaõ Beach, Portugal
Tickets are available from January 28th, 12pm CET, via portugal.secretproject.com.
Acclaimed Los Angeles-born Secret Project Festival makes a much-anticipated return to Europe this summer by taking over Portugal’s gorgeous Praia da Rocha (Portimaõ Beach) from June 17th to 19th 2022. The Portugal debut will be filled with house, techno, drum & bass, and disco and is set to be bigger and better than ever before. A brand new drum & bass stage is added on top of the house and techno stages which will be headlined by the likes of Adam Beyer, Alan Fitzpatrick, Charlotte de Witte, Chase & Status, DJ Tennis, Eric Prydz, Friction, Hybrid Minds & Tempza, Ida Engberg, Jamie Jones, Luciano, Maceo Plex, Marco Carola, Paul Kalkbrenner, Richie Hawtin, Shy FX, The Martinez Brothers and many more. The pre-sale starts Friday January 28th at 1AM PT / 9AM GMT / 10AM CET, and the regular ticket sale starts Friday January 28th at 3AM PT / 11AM GMT / Noon CET. Pre-registration is open until January 27th via portugal.secretproject.com.

Secret Project Festival is an oasis of art, music, murals, and live graffiti that welcomes only the most cutting-edge artists whether pioneering legends or red hot new talents. A whole spectrum of underground electronic sound is always represented and, last year, the festival debuted to great acclaim in Europe with a sold out crowd of nearly 20,000 attendees during ADE. After that raw, industrial-tinged event, the festival now switches it up and heads south to Portugal for a more organic and sun-kissed affair on sweeping sandy beaches with dramatic limestone rock formations and stunning views of the ocean.

Taking advantage of Portugal’s long hot days and balmy nights, music will play across all three stages, on all three days, all night long. The sub-tropical setting will add an extra dimension to Secret Project, on top of its already famous production quality and mesmeric audio-visuals. As well as the unmatched soundtrack, festival-goers can look forward to exploring a rich array of local cultures and cuisines, beach sports, water activities, restaurants, and bars during their stay in this spectacular setting.

Musically, all bases are covered by a who’s who of international talent. For techno lovers, there will be an astonishing three-way back-to-back between Dubfire, Nicole Moudaber, and Paco Osuna. Adam Beyer presents his mighty Drumcode label with fellow techno titans Alan Fitzpatrick, Ida Engberg, ANNA, and Joel Mull, and pioneering minimal man Richie Hawtin also lines up. Elsewhere on the festival ground, new school talent Amelie Lens will shake things up, Ellum Audio boss Maceo Plex brings his astral sounds with label mate Raxon, while Swiss-Chilean maestro Luciano, Desolat label head Loco Dice and Ukrainian melodic innovators ARTBAT, Italian stylist Enrico Sanguiliano and globally acclaimed Eric Prydz cover all shades of techno.

Drum & bass legends Chase & Status head up the new stage this year, and there is plenty of house to look forward to. From cultured Italian and Life And Death boss DJ Tennis, Ibiza favorites Jamie Jones and Ilario Alicante, and a special back-to-back between Richy Ahmed and Archie Hamilton, to party-starting duo The Martinez Brothers, UK sensation Michael Bibi, Grammy-nominated pair Camelphat, and spaced-age selector Chris Stussy, as well as more from Pleasurekraft, Cirez D, and plenty of others.

With its tasteful cross-section of forward-thinking electronic sounds and stunning location, Secret Project Festival Portugal is a perfect reason to get away and party in paradise this summer.

Praise for Telenova

“It’s rare for a band to arrive with such a polished and defined aesthetic this early” – NME, ★★★★

“Telenova have made an impact pretty quickly.” – Richard Kingsmill, triple j

“This is stupidly good. A sophisticated and utterly mesmerizing second release from one of 2021’s best new acts” – Bridget Hustwaite, triple j (Tranquilize)

“‘Cinematic indie pop at its finest. It sounds at once nostalgic while thoroughly modern, and is sure to get stuck in your head from the very first listen.” – Purple Sneakers

“A majestic debut from a band in its infancy… Telenova’s universe is so well realised you’ll be leaving footsteps in the band’s saturated deserts the moment you step through their portal” – NME, ★★★★

“This song really did take me by surprise when I heard it for the first time on Friday and I thought YES, kicking off next week’s BREAKING with this….” – Matt Wilkinson, Apple Music 1 (Tranquilize)

“Enchanting, alluring and instantly stylish stuff…” – Declan Byrne, triple j (Bones)

“Armstrong’s voice soars confidently above lush, grooving production, making for a truly captivating first offering.” – NME

“…the trio bring together a lifetime of musical experience condensed into genre-combining brilliance, where their overlapping worlds come together to create striking moments of hazy alt-electronic-R&B-esque versatility.” – Pilerats

Following a breakout 2021, Melbourne three-piece Telenova step confidently into 2022 with the Blue Valentine Tour, bringing their enigmatic live show across the country in their largest venues yet. The tour caps off a milestone debut for the band, with the release of their acclaimed EP Tranquilize and its ubiquitous single ‘Bones‘, which landed in triple j’s Hottest 100 this past weekend.

Tranquilize captivated audiences with its sweeping, cinematic aesthetic, garnering strong support from media, streaming platforms and radio across the globe. Their rendition of Madonna’s ‘Hung Up‘ for triple j’s Like A Version quickly became a fan favourite and Telenova found support for singles ‘Bones‘ & ‘Tranquilize‘ from BBC6, KCRW, Vogue Paris and NME, to name a few. The band then quickly sold out their November national tour, including six shows in their Melbourne hometown.

Ending the year with the release of the ‘Bones‘ music video, a nostalgia-soaked vignette shot between Melbourne and LA, Telenova went on to cement themselves as future festival favourites with acclaimed appearances at Wildlands, Beyond The City and Loch Hart Festivals. Their success is further bolstered by an appearance in triple j’s Hottest 100, with ‘Bones’ placing #91 in their countdown debut.

The Blue Valentine Tour kicks off March 4th at Wooly Mammoth in Brisbane, followed by Melbourne’s The Corner, Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory, and Adelaide’s Jive.

GLASS ANIMALS MAKE GOOD ON THEIR PROMISE FOLLOWING 2021 HOTTEST 100 WIN & GET AUSTRALIAN THEMED TATTOOS ON THEIR BACKSIDES

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES:

Thursday 14 July – HBF Stadium, Perth

Saturday 16 July – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (SOLD OUT)

Tuesday 19 July – John Cain Arena, Melbourne

TICKETS

After promising fans back in January 2021 that if ‘Heatwaves’ win the triple j Hottest 100 they would get Australia themed tattoos on their backsides, one year later they finally have done it with Dave (lead singer) getting an Australian map and Drew (guitarist) getting a koala.

“here’s the deal: heatwaves on top of the pile in @tripleJ hottest 100 = australia tattooed to each of our buttocks, not each cheek obvs. inked on us 4eva as a sign of our love for the greatest sporting country on earth. we are absolutely serious about this,” they wrote on social media last year.

“My mum is going to be livid,” lead singer Dave says in an Instagram video posted on Sunday.

It has been a year since the band promised to get the tattoos (which are the first for them both) and blame covid lockdowns for the delay. “sorry it took so long to get em done covid is a f**ker. X” Dave writes in an Instagram Post.

Glass Animals will be touring Australia later this year with the tour kicking off in Perth at HBF Stadium on Thursday 14 July, followed by Hordern Pavilion in Sydney and John Cain Arena in Melbourne.

Glass Animals are set to play their biggest shows in Australia yet. Having performed massive sell out shows across the USA and UK the ‘Dreamland’ tour is going to be a mind-bending live experience not to be missed.

‘Dreamland’ is the band’s third album and features the smash single ‘Heat Waves’ which most notably was crowned number 1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 – an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish. They’ve entered the triple j Hottest 100 for a second year consecutively coming in at #23 for their single “I Don’t Wanna Talk”.

‘Heat Waves’ held the No.1 spot on the ARIA Official Singles Chart in Australia for six consecutive weeks, marking the band’s first #1 single globally. The single has spent 51 weeks in the top 10 of ARIA chart, surpassing ‘Dance Monkey’s’ record for the most weeks in the top 10 in ARIA history. The accolades continue with ‘Heat Waves’ becoming the most streamed song in Australia in 2021 with over 110 million streams (2.4 billion globally) and hitting 8 x Platinum.

Grapevine Gathering 2022 Photo/Review

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

The Grapevine Gathering was in back in fine form at Rochford Wines in Victoria after an earlier cancellation in NSW. The festival drew thousands of eager people ready to party and soak up the summer vibes.

The festival was an absolute scorcher. In the 34 degree heat and searing sun,  Creature Fear played tracks from their EP and new tunes written during lockdown to an enthusiastic crowd. Melbourne locals Rest For the Wicked showcased their eclectic mix of electronica and indie pop.

Things heated up when The Veronicas hit the stage performing crowd anthems “Untouched” and “4ever”. Vera Blue had the crowd in the palm of her hand as she opened her 45 minute set with “Temper”, and included female favourite “Lady Powers”, “Settle”, and “Lie to Me”.

The sun was beginning to set and weather was cooling down when Jungle Giants hit the stage. But they keep the heat up. Festival goers were in full swing as the band performed 110% and celebrated their song “Love Signs”  hitting number 18 in the Triple J’s 2021 Hottest 100.

Peking Duk closed the festival with a blazing electronic set accompanied with plenty of pyro, confetti, streamers, and amazing visuals. They certainly set a standard for festival headliners!

DEAR SEATTLE REVEAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE ‘WAY OUT’ + ANNOUNCE RESCHEDULED WAY OUT NATIONAL TOUR DATES + TEASE 2022 ALBUM

by the partae January 24, 2022
written by the partae

Dear Seattle are bringing in 2022 with the reveal of a brand new music video for their latest single ‘Way Out’ today. Fresh from the track snagging a coveted full rotation add on triple j, the band perform their impassioned and memorable new cut set to the backdrop of a homely lounge room.

Speaking more on the video, Dear Seattle frontman Brae Fisher shares:

“We wanted to strip things right back to the core of Dear Seattle on this video. All we wanted was to play in a room together again. It’s something we’ve missed for so long, and to be able to come together again like that was special so we hope people can feel that with us.”

The Australian rock favourites are also announcing a slew of rescheduled dates for their NSW shows today.

“Despite having the tour pulled out from us a second time the week of, we haven’t let it dampen our spirits,” Brae adds. “If anything it’s made us more eager to blow the head off it when these shows finally happen.”

Marking the band’s first time playing a headline tour since selling out their 2019 Don’t Let Go album run, Dear Seattle will now play an extensive run of shows around the country throughout February and March. Full dates and ticket details below.

Crunchy and memorable, ‘Way Out’ finds Brae deep-diving into themes like codependency and resentment building in a relationship lacking honest communication and personal space. In the same vein as their 2021 ‘In My Head’ release, ‘Way Out’ finds the band heading in a more nuanced and mature musical direction, while still holding true to the classic Dear Seattle chant-along choruses and emotionally-charged storytelling heard on their previous releases.

On this note, Dear Seattle fans should stay closely tuned to the band’s socials as they soon prepare to announce details of their sophomore full-length album.

About Dear Seattle:
After snapping heads with their 2017 self-titled EP, (spawning tours with the likes of Tired Lion, Balance And Composure, Hockey Dad and Trophy Eyes, and festival slots on Groovin’ The Moo, UNIFY, Festival Of The Sun and Party In The Paddock), Dear Seattle asserted themselves as one of Australia’s most exciting young rock acts with the release of their 2019 debut full-length Don’t Let Go.Exploring the stress and challenge of being a full-time musician, anxiety (‘Bigger Than My Brain’), self-doubt (‘Daytime TV’), reckless living (‘Homegrown’), the fake nature of the music industry (‘Try’) and perhaps most searingly, the death of vocalist/guitarist/lyricist Brae’s father (‘I Keep Dreaming’), Don’t Let Go packed in poetic lyricism and plainspoken Australian storytelling, all peppered with an endearing dose of self-deprecation.

Offering a depth and dimension not too often found in their genre, Dear Seattle captured industry and audience hearts alike upon the album’s release in February 2019. Don’t Let Go garnered praise from the likes of Pilerats (“stellar”), The Music, (“hard not to fall in love with”), New Noise (“an immaculate effort”) and more, saw the band invited to play triple j’s lauded Like A Version segment, copped a nomination for Best Rock/Punk Album at the 2020 AIR Awards and spawned a huge headline Australian tour to celebrate. To date the record has also amassed close to 8 million streams.

Now with a few years and some more life behind them, plus a renewed focus to write completely for themselves, Dear Seattle have returned with ‘In My Head’ and ‘Way Out’ in 2021 and look to release more new music in the new year.

Best Before

On Monday January 31 and Tuesday February 1, the critically acclaimed Chicago rapper-producer Saba will present Few Good Things: The Short Film in support of his highly anticipated Few Good Things album due for release on February 4th. The premiere worldwide screening event will take place via the premium social live media platform Moment House and will be followed by a conversation with Saba and film director C.T. Robert moderated by veteran multi-media journalist Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins. WATCH THE TRAILER HERE + BUY TICKETS HERE

Saba’s moment will take place on Monday, January 31st and Tuesday, February 1st on Moment House and will be broadcast to various regions around the world including North and South America, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, and the UK, Europe and Africa.

“The concept of ‘Few Good Things’ is the realisation of self after a search for exterior fulfilment,” shares Saba ahead of the premiere event. “It is the satisfaction and completeness you gain by simply living a life that is yours. Few is a small number, but few is not lonely. In the face of all adversity, a few good things is recognising and accepting blessings. Few is to count them, one by one – an empty glass is full of air, an empty bank is full of lessons., and an empty heart is full of memories. Few good things is to grow comfortable with the empty, and despite that, finding your fullness.”

Film director C.T. Robert adds, “As a storyteller, I’ve always been drawn to stories that attempt to identify what makes us who we are. The ones that ask questions like: ‘What does having everything you need really look like?’ ‘Is it sitting at a dinner table with your loved ones?’ ‘Is it waking up next to the woman you love?’ ‘Is it having cherished memories for all of those you care for, those still in the physical and those who passed on?’”

Robert continues, “It’s hard to pinpoint the exact answers to all these but we know that it’s nothing that can be achieved from monetary fulfilment or anything materialistic. It’s a weight that can only be carried with you through years of experiences and memories made from putting the time in with those around you. No amount of money could ever replace that. In this film we want to refocus the conversation surrounding these ideas and help shed light on what’s really important in the grand scheme of it all.”

LIVESTREAM DATES + TIMES
31 Jan – 6pm ET / North + South America (East)
31 Jan – 6pm PT / North + South America (West)
1 Feb – 6pm JST / Asia + Australia + New Zealand
1 Feb – 6pm GMT / Europe + UK + Africa

Saba’s Few Good Things album — the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2018 album CARE FOR ME – was recently highlighted in The New York Times’ winter preview stating, “The beats are still buttery, jazzy and meticulously arranged. But this time around, there is more wisdom — a recognition that living through trauma means finding gratitude and affirmation in the moments you can.”
