2020 saw our live music industry brought to its knees as COVID-19 turned the lights out on venues across the country.  But with the dawning of 2021 the Australian spirit shines bright as our nation unites together in hope of a better year ahead. The roadcases are about to be packed, sound levels checked, and spotlights positioned. Live music is ready to return…and in a most spectacular fashion.

Ahead of her sold out Sidney Myer Music Bowl performance on 27 January, beloved Melbourne artist Missy Higgins performs at Mt Duneed Estate for 2021 SOUNDS BETTER TOGETHER. Appearing at today’s official launch, Missy said, “Live music has always been an essential part of life in Victoria so it’s exciting to finally be getting back to playing gigs here again. Hopefully these special shows can be a bit of a thank you to everyone for all the sacrifices they made last year.”

The five-time chart topper and nine-time ARIA Award winner will perform songs from her extensive catalogue – with iconic tracks like ‘Scar’, ‘The Special Two’, ‘Steer’ – along with new music including her latest single ‘When The Machine Starts’, which reflects her experience during Melbourne’s 2020 lockdowns. With more than two million albums sold globally, Missy is truly one of Australia’s greatest musicians, her live performance sure to captivate audiences this weekend.

Global powerhouse Tones And I joins Missy Higgins in co-headlining 2021 SOUNDS BETTER TOGETHER at Mt Duneed Estate on Saturday. Hailing from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Tones is Australia’s biggest international success story, a multi-platinum singer-songwriter amassing a record number of global streams of her hit single ‘Dance Monkey’, along with follow up singles ‘Never Seen The Rain’, new single ‘Fly Away’, which is climbing charts globally and more (‘Dance Monkey’ has also taken the crown for the Most Shazamed song of all time!).

With a “remarkable voice that can go from hushed to hurricane” (Sydney Morning Herald), Tones And I is without doubt one of the most exciting artists to emerge from Australia in years. “It’s great to be a part of Sounds Better Together and bring live music back to Victoria”, says Tones. It’s going to be an epic night of music, when these legendary ladies join forces for Victorian audiences in a matter of days!

Sydney-via-Canowindra artist Gordi joins a huge line-up at Mt Duneed on the weekend. Alongside working her day job as a doctor, a particularly remarkable feat during COVID, the acclaimed singer-songwriter released her second studio album, Our Two Skins in June last year, garnering critical praise, two J Award nomination’s (Australian Album of the Year and Artist of the Year). Gordi said, “I’m thrilled to be coming together to bring live music back to Victoria, it’s going to be really special.”

Rounding out Mt Duneed’s sensational program is Warrnambool singer-songwriter Didirri. Known for his ethereal vocals, poetic, candid songwriting, and captivating on-stage presence, Didirri’s performance will stay with music lovers long after his set has finished.

Music legend Jimmy Barnes needs no introduction. The master singer-songwriter-performer will deliver headline performances with his band at the Yarra Valley’s Rochford Wines on 23 January and Rutherglen’s All Saints on 25 January.

Jimmy Barnes is the heart and soul of Australian rock’n’roll. He has been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame twice, sold over 13 million albums, scored 17 #1 albums on the ARIA Charts, a feat that not even The Beatles have achieved. For more than 40 years, Barnesy has delivered some of our most intense and iconic live performances, with anthems like ‘Working Class Man’, ‘Flame Trees’, and ‘No Second Prize’ rocking pubs, arenas and stadiums across the globe. His bestselling memoirs have sold more than 500,000 copies and won the ABIA Biography Book of the Year Award in 2017 and 2018 – the only Australian author to do so twice. Jimmy’s latest book, Killing Time, short stories from the long road home, was released in late 2019 and went to #1 on the Non-Fiction book chart.
Released in 2019, Jimmy’s latest album, My Criminal Record, picked up on many of the themes in his books and spawned the hit singles, Shutting Down Our Town and I Won’t Let You Down.

Jimmy said, “It’s so great to be a part of these shows. I get to take the stage with The Teskey Brothers, Daryl Braithwaite, Vika & Linda and more. I love playing music and it always sounds so much better playing live in front of a Victorian audience. Bring it on!”

One of Melbourne’s greatest success stories, The Teskey Brothers are a rare musical gem. A raw combination of soul and blues, the four-piece have wowed audiences around the world with their undeniable live show. They join Jimmy Barnes for an evening of blues and rock in the stunning Yarra Valley this weekend. “We’re very excited to be playing this surprise show,” says bassist Brendan Love, “but especially because our first show of 2021 is with the legendary Jimmy Barnes. We can’t wait.”

Responsible for some of Australia’s best-loved songs, from the undeniable ‘The Horses’ to HOWZAT’, ‘One Summer’ and more, Daryl Braithwaite is a local music titan. An ARIA Hall of fame inductee, his latest single ‘Love Songs’ saw the music icon return to the ARIA Singles chart in 2020. Daryl has launched a brand-new chapter in his unparalleled career and will enthrall audiences in Rutherglen and Mallacoota this month.

Lauded songstress Deborah Conway has been a staple of the Australian music scene since the 80’s, when she made waves fronting pop rock outfit Do-Re-Mi. She’s a multi-ARIA Award winner, has multiple Gold albums under her belt, and was inducted into the Live Legends Hall of Fame at the 2019 National Live Music Awards.

James Reyne’s songs have provided the soundtrack to endless Australian summers, and they’ll continue to do so at Mallacoota Oval on the eve of 30 January. With 19 x Top 40 hits across his celebrated career, Reyne is an ARIA Hall of Famer that has sold out shows around the world both solo and out front of the legendary Australian Crawl. His twelfth studio album Toon Town Lullaby was released last year, and sees Reyne focused firmly on the future.

Together with Daryl Braithwaite, Vika & Linda and Mia Wray, local audiences will be treated to a night of Australia’s finest talent in Mallacoota later this month.

Vika and Linda Bull are Australia’s most revered singing sisters, known for their rich vocal harmonies and stylistic breadth. After three classic albums with The Black Sorrows, Vika & Linda have released six studio albums, two live albums and a chart-topping anthology. They have also sung on number one albums by Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers and John Farnham, done gigs for the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and the King of Tonga, and been nominated for four ARIA Awards.

And recently, whilst still celebrating the recent release of their first ever best-of collection (and first ARIA #1) ‘Akilotoa (Anthology 1996-2004), Vika & Linda have wasted no time in following up with an inspired album of gospel songs titled Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso), out now (ARIA #2).

Last year, Melbourne artist Mia Wray made a grand debut with her single ‘Work For Me’, which captured the attention of tastemakers around the country. Her soulful voice has drawn comparison to the likes of Lorde and Meg Mac, but Mia Wray is carving her own path and is a talent to watch in 2021.

TAKES TO MELBOURNE’S SIDNEY MYER MUSIC BOWL ON
THURSDAY 18 MARCH AS PART OF THE LIVE AT THE BOWL CONCERT SERIES
SPECIAL GUEST TINA DEL TWIST

  • Em Rusciano will return to the stage at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Thursday 18 March
  • Rusciano’s career has seen the multi-talented entertainer and breakfast radio co-host release her own podcast ‘Emsolation’, chart-topping songs, best-selling books and regularly feature as a host on Network Ten’s ‘The Project’.
  • Tina Del Twist confirmed as special guest
  • Tickets to Rusciano’s highly anticipated performance go on sale Thursday 21 January at 12noon AEDT

Frontier Touring is delighted to announce that Em Rusciano, one of Australia’s most well-rounded and talented performers, will be taking to the stage at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Thursday 18 March.

Em’s performance is part of the Live at the Bowl concert series which sees Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl host a now four-month-long festival going through to the end of April featuring an all-local program of music, comedy, family-friendly events and more.

With her finger firmly in every piece of the entertainment pie, Rusciano’s varied career has seen her co-host breakfast radio, release chart-topping songs and best-selling books and audiobooks, feature as a regular host on Channel Ten’s ‘The Project’, and sell out the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne’s Palais Theatre and Queensland Performing Arts Centre with her live comedy shows.

‘With Rusciano there are no censors, no apologies and absolutely no holding back. And it makes for one hell of a show.’ – Adelaide Now

‘She has the kind of inborn charisma a hundred other acts around town wish they could buy off-the-rack.’ – Herald Sun

Rusciano’s Live at the Bowl performance will be intimate and stripped back: no giant dancing appendages, just Em connecting with her beloved community after a lengthy time apart. The multi-talented performer will bring her band, her beloved dad Vince and a year’s worth of built-up frustration ready to burst forth in a delightfully unhinged way over those of you lucky enough to snap up tickets.
“I’m beyond excited to be playing at the Sidney Myer Music bowl after basically hibernating for a year, I imagine it’ll be like my own carols by candlelight only with swearing and way more sequins (if you can believe it). I’ve really missed my audience and their electric enthusiasm, I may just get on stage and cry for two hours out of relief and joy. So Melbourne I need you to prepare your sensible flat dancing shoes and stretchy leopard print pants and get ready to release the pent up frustrations of 2020, but also know you’ll be home tucked up in bed by 10:30pm because I’ve got your back. See you in March, I can’t wait!” – Em Rusciano

Joining Em as special guest at her performance will be the fabulous Tina Del Twist. Truly unique, Tina Del Twist’s talents range from television features (ABC TV’s Comedy Up Late) to cabaret leads (Melbourne Cabaret Festival), and of course, sell-out Comedy Festival seasons (Melbourne International Comedy Festival). And then some.

Tickets to Em Rusciano’s Live at the Bowl performance will go on sale at 12noon AEDT on Thursday 21 January, secure tickets early to avoid disappointment.

We’re pleased that these shows have been popular with some sell-out crowds and limited tickets remaining for the rest. “Melbourne is the live music capital of the world. SYNTHONY TO LIGHT UP MELBOURNE FOR A ‘ONE NIGHT ONLY’ SHOW LIVE AT THE BOWL

by the partae January 18, 2021
written by the partae

In Brief:

The sell-out success, Synthony, comes to Melbourne for the first time for a ‘One Night Only’ epic outdoor show! The ultimate celebration of the last 30 years of Dance Music, Synthony is a unique collaboration between Orchestra, DJs, live vocalists and feature musicians.

The super-charged and energetic Synthony will showcase the biggest dance anthems from icons such as: Avicii, Eric Prydz, Fatboy Slim and Basement Jaxx to name just a few, backed with the full might of a 60+ piece Synthony Orchestra.  The show is stacked with iconic stars from across the Australian music spectrum playing their global hits including: Miss Connie (Sneaky Sound System), Ilan Kidron (The Potbelleez), Jenny B (Corona), Mobin Master, Andy Van (Madison Avenue / Vicious Records) and Mark Dynamix.

With an epic backdrop of visuals, lasers and a state-of-the-art sound system, it’s a magical, uplifting, hands-in-the-air dance party like no other.  An energetic show from the outset, this is not an Orchestra as you know it.  This celebration of Dance Music is more than just a show, it takes the audience on a nostalgic journey back through their most memorable dance music experiences.  Track after track, fans are taken down memory lane and will celebrate dance music that is embedded into their subconscious.

Synthony’s New Zealand shows (since 2017) have been attended by ‘Sold Out’ audiences (as well as its debut into Australia in Brisbane, 2019).  After successful shows across New Zealand (over the last few months, including a sold-out show at Spark Arena, Auckland) and the orchestral extravaganza’s first outdoor show at the magical natural Amphitheatre of the Bowl of Brooklands (New Plymouth), the tour will expand to Melbourne this April, as part of the: ‘Live at the Bowl’ Summer series at the ‘Sidney Myer Music Bowl.’

Synthony Australia will include some of Australia’s Dance Music’s favourite Artists, who are also behind some massive hits, such as:

Miss Connie (Sneaky Sound System) – ‘Pictures,’ ‘I Love It,’ ‘UFO,’ ‘Kansas City’ and more..

Ilan Kidron (The Potbelleez) – ‘Don’t Hold Back,’ ‘Hello,’ ‘Junkyard’ and more..

Jenny B (Corona) – ‘The Rhythm of the Night,’ featured vocalist for J.K, Nevada, Culture Beat and more..

+ more to be announced.

Hosted by: Mobin Master – ‘Show Me Love,’ ‘Get Away With It,’ ‘Lights Out’ and more..

Support by: Andy Van (Madison Avenue // Super Disco Club) and Mark Dynamix

It’s no secret that 2020 has been a tumultuous rollercoaster for event promoters.  The Synthony tour was due to be announced just days before New Zealand went into Level 4 lockdown and the future of the tour all of a sudden became awfully uncertain.  Shows across Australia, Asia, and the U.S were in the pipeline for 2020.  Months of preparation and negotiations with Artists, Venues and Sponsors were all dashed and the team behind Synthony, had to rebuild the program all over again.

___________________________________________________________

Duco Events Promoter Rachael Carroll says she’s incredibly excited to bring the show back to Australia and hold the first outdoor show at the iconic ‘Sidney Myer Music Bowl’: “Given the circumstances, it’s amazing to be able to bring this show to the music hub of Australia – Melbourne and have our show at the ‘Sidney Myer Music Bowl.’ We know as soon as Melbournians see this show, they’ll be coming back year after year.”

The show will be run in a Covid-safe environment set up by the Arts Centre Melbourne, that will include socially spaced tables and seats and innovative private decks for groups of up to 6 people.  Carroll stated: “The Covid safe set up at the Bowl, is an incredible innovation by the Arts Centre Melbourne.  We are going full throttle with this show, so fans can expect an amazing high energy experience in a socially distanced safe format.  After everything Melburnians have been through, we can’t wait to put on this epic dance party for them!”

The Synthony show has only been possible thanks to the support of the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund – an Australian Government initiative. “We certainly would not be putting on this show without the RISE funding support from the Australian Government and support from Arts Centre Melbourne.  These partners have given us the confidence to invest, take risks and put on events, that will see some Artists and suppliers secure their first job and income after a very long break in event activity,” said Carroll.

About Synthony

Founded in 2017 by DJ and producer, Erika Amoore and fellow Kiwi David Elmsly, Synthony sold out its first ever show at the Auckland Town Hall to a packed house and unprecedented reviews.  The show’s creation brought together key New Zealand talent, with Peter Thomas, conductor and music director of the Auckland Symphony Orchestra believing in the unique concept and enlisting the services of Ryan Youens, an arranger with hundreds of professional credits to his name, including film scores for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug.

After sold-out events at Auckland Town Hall in 2017 and 2018, Duco Events, a major event promoter with a 16-year track-record, purchased the concept with an ambitious long-term vision to expand the event from one city to multiple venues and cities across the globe.  In 2019, they took the show to Brisbane, Australia and also sold out five shows across NZ later that year.  Over six shows, four Orchestras and hundreds of musicians played to over 14,000 fans in 2019.

In 2020, Synthony staged its biggest ever NZ-wide tour, supporting the live music industry’s recovery post COVID19.  Synthony returns to Australia this April for its first outdoor show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne with other Australian cities to be announced, followed by other international markets.

Volen Sentir shares stunning LIVE @ Magic Forest

by the partae January 14, 2021
written by the partae
The boundary pushing Volen Sentir have announced a brand new stream called LIVE @ Magic Forest. The new stream overcomes the limits of house music in a brand new live video that is an immersive watch with mystic visuals as well as a world class soundtrack.

This Moscow-based pair have recently received the Best Seller status on Beatport in the Progressive House genre for a second year in a row, and are known the world over for their unique ethnic house sounds on labels like All Day I Dream and Lost & Found. In their short history, the duo has released a number of vinyl EPs and singles, made their way into official compilations from Tomorrowland, Cafe Del Mar and Buddha-Bar and have played all over the world. They were in LA for Christmas, UK for the spring and now you can be sure many more cities are going to host Volen Sentir in future.

Ahead of that, the duo has expanded its borders to become a full-band music project, including piano, percussion, flute and vocals that all add up to a spellbinding new show that shows off all their skills complete with amazing visuals in the atmospheric location.

The band’s artistry is filled with rhythmic melodies, powerful grooves and pure, all-natural harmonies. By merging these individual elements into a unified musical vision, Volen Sentir manages to create a unique neo-authentic sound where the sense of modernity harmoniously blends in with the echoes of various times, cultures and traditions and all of this is captured in the video of the new live show.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are amped for the New Year with brand new single Pukebox!

Stepping back into the spotlight for a brand new year, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets hit the ground running with the release of their latest single, ‘Pukebox’.

At just over three minutes, this new slice of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets chaos is the latest installment of the band’s forthcoming new studio record, SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound, due for release February 5th. Hectic and relentless in pure unadulterated Psychedelic Porn Crumpets fashion, ‘Pukebox’ is one ride that fans will want to be on as brighter horizons look promising for 2021.

PRE ORDER ALBUM

Recorded between songwriter Jack McEwan’s home studio and Tone City Studios in WA, ‘Pukebox’ is a delicious example of how tight the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets sound has become over their last few years of writing and touring.

Receiving its worldwide premiere on BBC Radio 1 with Annie Mac, ‘Pukebox’ captures the essence of SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound and sits as a great insight into the new era ahead.

“‘Pukebox was the first song I used as a reference while creating the flavour for the record. I’d had the idea for the track for a while but I never thought it fit the style of our previous albums. I wrote the first part in first person, talking about my time at home drinking moonshine and wondering who else was doing the same. Then I compared that in the second verse with a secondary version of myself who I wrote about as a character, a little bit lost, waking up with a hangover in random cities trying to find a meaning while it sailed right past me. Both unaware of each other’s existence while slowly going mad through repetitive consumption.”
Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

2020 saw Psychedelic Porn Crumpets keep the wheels turning with new music, despite being unable to tour; releasing ‘Mr. Prism’ and ‘Tally-Ho!’ to keep the appetites of fans satiated. With both singles earning acclaim across Australian and international radio stations including Triple J, Radio X and BBC Radio One, as well as right across Spotify, Apple Music and multiple music editorial titles, the hype up for the new album started off strong.

Capping off their year with a blistering spin with Triple J’s Like A Version series, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets reminded folks that although they (like everyone else) was forced to take pause from usual programming in 2020, they weren’t resting on their laurels.

PRAISE FOR PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS

“A surrealistic psych-rock anthem that showcases the band’s frenetic compositional style.”
Rolling Stone Australia

“Utterly face-melting!”
BBC Radio 1, Jack Saunders

“…The energy they pack into their live shows is incredible and it’s all backed up by soaring melodies and expert riffwork!”
Louder Than War

“Besides having one of the greatest band names in the country, PPC are one of Perth’s best live acts, building headbanging spectacles from their fuzzy psych rock nuggets.”
Triple J

“Who needs a roller-coaster when PPC are out here producing the same adrenaline? It’s always such a rush listening to ya’ll.”
Triple J, Bridget Hustwaite

“As Summer 2020 continues to crawl along a flat line of dread and uncertainty, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are back to show that an alter-ego could be the cure for all our pandemic blues.”
Vanyaland

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets will return to live shows, supporting Ocean Alley on their national tour throughout August and September.

Melbourne artist Jess Locke has pushed her way to the forefront of this talented pack.” - The Guardian  "Jess Locke has again shown why she's one of the country's most exciting emerging indie rock stars." - Double J "…a songwriter capable of balancing introspective reflection with pop-skewed accessibility"  - Rolling Stone Known for penning indie guitar-pop tracks that are at times subtle and full of melancholy, at times delivered with an acerbic tongue, but always steeped heavily in narrative, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Jess Locke today shares 'Dead and Gone', the third single off her forthcoming album Don't Ask Yourself Why out Friday 26 March 2021 via Dot Dash Recordings. To celebrate the new single, Jess Locke announces an 8-date Victorian tour, performing to audiences in Melbourne, Ballarat, Kyneton, Castlemaine, Beechworth and Warrnambool, kicking off Saturday 30 January - tickets on sale now here. As premiered on triple j's Home & Hosed, 'Dead and Gone' "is a catharsis, a shedding of the old and an embrace of what’s to come." explains Locke. "Singing it feels like vomiting up my sadness and regret and finding a moment of peace. People probably think that all singers always love singing, but that’s not true for me. Sometimes it feels like work and it takes a lot of energy. But I enjoy singing this song. I like the way it feels in my throat and my body. To me, this song isn’t just about moving on and healing, it is that in itself. I wish I could say that about more songs, but I can say it about this one. One of my favourite moments on the record is at the end of this song, when the humble little folk tune flies off into the sky in a looping, weaving, transcendent celebration of sounds. It’s a metamorphosis in real time." On the accompanying video Locke continues "I saw these time lapse videos online of plants moving and bending with the sunlight and I just thought that was really beautiful - those incremental changes that can so easily go unnoticed but are also so important. I suppose the song is fundamentally about growth, so it felt like a good visual metaphor to use for the video." 'Dead and Gone' follows on from last year's album tasters; first single ‘Fool’ - a simple and raw track, seeking to partner dirty grunge guitars, a fuzzy lead, gritty vocals and a punchy rhythm section - followed by the beautifully contrasting second track 'Destroy Everything'. Both were received to wide acclaim with airplay across Australia and beyond including radio additions at Double J, FBi Radio, 2SER, RTR, & SYN, plus spins on triple j, KEXP & more. Don’t Ask Yourself Why, Jess Locke’s third album, is twelve tracks steeped in the Melbourne songwriter’s trademark style - raw and honest storytelling, with a tendency for melancholy and at times poetic inclinations. The album traverses themes of human behaviour, our egos and self-reflection. On Don’t Ask Yourself Why, Locke invites contemplation. "I mean the phrase ironically, because really, I do want you to ask why" explains Locke. Locke and bandmates James Morris and Chris Rawsthorne, worked with producer Rob Muinos (Saskwatch, Julia Jacklin), to record the album in a tiny studio in the back of a guitar shop in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood, before it was mastered by John Davis at Metropolis in the UK (Lana Del Ray, The Killers, Gorillaz). “For this record I was a lot more open in my writing process than in the past in terms of genre. I tried not to write any particular kind of song and instead just see what kind of style the song wanted to be. I found it to be an extremely productive way to write. I definitely came up with some pretty weird, and just bad, stuff that didn’t make it onto the record, but it’s the reason all of the songs that did make it are so stylistically diverse.” Locke says of the album. Don't Ask Yourself Why follows on from 2018’s 7” My Body Is An Ecosystem / Nothing At All and Locke's acclaimed 2017 LP Universe which debuted at #18 on the AIR Independent Label Album Chart, landed triple j Feature Album, was nominated for the Australian Music Prize and was #20 in Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2017. Silverstein Announce ‘Out Of This World’ Virtual Concert Series 3-Part Immersive Performances Streaming In February New Album ‘A Beautiful Place To Drown’ Out Now

After a whirlwind 2020 celebrating two decades together and the release of their ninth studio album, Silverstein are announcing plans to kick off 2021 with an immersive livestream event series in February.

Across three weekends the band will perform unique sets spanning their extensive catalogue. Virtual VIP “meet and greets” and photo opps will be available with the full band, meanwhile fans can grab extremely limited merch items including silk screen posters, an official Guitar Pick tin with Silverstein Picks, plus the ‘Out of this World’ soundtrack (scored by Silverstein’s honorary 6th member, producer Mike Tompa) on cassette.

Tickets, 3-Show & VIP passes and limited merch are on sale now via www.SilversteinStore.com

On the shows, Silverstein vocalist Shane Told says:

“After our ‘Next Level Livestream’ we thought about how we could step up our game even more! ‘Out Of This World’ will offer three different sets featuring our greatest hits, acoustic jams and ‘Discovering The Waterfront’ in its entirety. But of course, it will be more than just music, more than just bangers… We have enlisted some of the best people in the country to help us pull this off, so expect the finest in production quality, video and sound.

“Fans will get to hear a variety of tunes spanning our entire career and a few songs we haven’t played live in a long time… or ever. Make sure you swing by our merch “table” and pick something up too!”

With traditional touring and promo plans stunted due to COVID restrictions, Silverstein doubled down to celebrate their 2020 album A Beautiful Place To Drown in creative ways, including recording alternate versions of ‘Infinite’ & ‘Where Are You‘ during lockdown, and releasing their ‘Quaranstein‘ documentary.

After capping a monumental – though unconventional – 20th anniversary year with the release of Redux II and their debut livestream event, Silverstein will come together to bring their ‘Out Of This World’ streaming experience to fans in February. Full details below.

‘A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO DROWN’ OUT NOW VIA UNFD
CLICK TO STREAM/PURCHASE:

A Beautiful Place To Drown debuted on seven Billboard charts (including #122 Top 200, #5 Rock Albums, and #3 Current Alternative) and garnered global media praise. Encapsulating the best of Silverstein while pushing their sound into daring new territory, the record finds the five-piece straddling their emo and post-hardcore roots on top of pop and rock sensibilities.

With huge appearances from the likes of rap goddess Princess Nokia to Underoath’s Aaron Gillespie, Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo, Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier, and more peppered throughout, ABPTD is indicative of Silverstein’s fluidity and wide-reaching impact to listeners in all worlds of music. A Beautiful Place To Drown is streaming everywhere now. TEENAGE KICKS AT BURLEIGH BAZAAR ANNOUNCE STACKED LINEUP FOR MINI-FEST ON THE GOLD COAST

by the partae January 13, 2021
written by the partae

Gold Coast –  Get on this!  The team behind Best Night Ever have pulled a bunch of rad bands together for a mid-summer Sunday Session mini-fest to present Teenage Kicks at Burleigh Bazaar on Sunday 7 February.

Spending 2020 slow-cooking a flavoursome psych-rock stew, Brisbane’s’ Nice Biscuit, return to the Goldy with their new single ‘Fem Chem’, and a new EP titled “Create Simulate” due to satisfy your hungry ears in early 2021.
Electrifying and cinematic, expect a colourful sonic and visual show featuring out of this world costumes and a genre-bending repertoire of songs from this DIY psych-garage collective.

Joining them on the drive down the M1 from Brisvegas, Concrete Surfers are a Brisbane band to the core and create a unique blend of garage-rock and pop. Their distinctive sound and energetic live performance have created a fast-moving trajectory for the group of four and 2020 saw the release of the song ‘Never Understood’ – a track that was produced by Fletcher Matthews (Dear Seattle, Sweater Curse, CLEWS, Fritz).

Hailing from the nation’s capital to make their first-ever Gold Coast appearance Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers are a band of four nineteen year old gals with a penchant for plaid and a knack for crafting gritty, nostalgic grunge pop.
Their 2019 breakout single, the alt-rock infused ‘I Like That You Like That’, showcased a darker and more mature evolution of sound for the four-piece, and was followed up by  ‘See You In A Bit (I Still Care)’ – a tenacious and honest ode to love-hate relationships. With a whole lot of love for both each other and their audiences, and a whole lot more in store, Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers are a name you need to know.

Since Teenage Joans first burst onto the stage only one year ago, they have left every room they play full of brand new and soon-to-be long-time fans. This year the triumphant indie/pop-punk two-piece took home the crown as triple j Unearthed High winners of 2020 and aren’t planning on slowing down anytime soon. Cahli and Tahlia have a lot to say and they are going to say it, you are going to listen, and nobody is going to stand in their way.

Coming in hot from Jervis Bay, NSW, Debbies are a two-piece rock band with a sound that combines those summery slacker vibes with upbeat hard-hitting rock melodies. The band have fast become one of the most buzzed-about new names in Australian rock music after being named one of the five triple j Unearthed High finalists for 2019.

Looking for all-female, all punk rock, all the time? You can’t go past the 5 piece powerhouse of Being Jane Lane! Dropping catchy punk rock tunes with attitude, if you haven’t yet jumped on the Being Jane Lane bandwagon, now is a damn good time to do so.

To join the other ladies on stage, will also be Gold Coast local Lily Papas. The singer-songwriter has been known with her introspective indie pop, noting musical influencers from Florence & The Machine, Lana Del Rey, London Grammar and David Bowie.

Tickets are now on sale via Oztix and is a 16+ event.

DMA’S ANNOUNCE LIVE AT BRIXTON ALBUM FOR FRIDAY 5 MARCH + RECORD WILL BE RELEASED DIGITALLY & ON LIMITED EDITION DOUBLE VINYL + FIRST TRACK ‘LAY DOWN (LIVE AT BRIXTON)’ OUT NOW

by the partae January 12, 2021
written by the partae

I OH YOU are psyched to share ‘Lay Down (Live at Brixton)’ today, along with announcing DMA’S forthcoming Live at Brixton album. Following huge fan demand, the live album will be officially released on Friday 5 March, the one-year anniversary of their headline show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton which saw the band play to a sold-out crowd of 5,000.

Along with being released digitally, the album will come as a very limited vinyl pressing, a double ‘Smoked-Pink’ LP set in a gatefold full of images from their now infamous London show. Inspired by a flare that was set off during the show, the ‘Smoked-Pink’ vinyl is one for the avid collectors amongst us and expected to sell fast.

March 6th, 2020. A sold-out audience fills the O2 Academy Brixton’s cavernous space from wall-to-wall. The lights go down, the crowd erupts into a chant and DMA’S tear into their opening song ‘Feels Like 37’ accompanied by 5000 voices passionately singing along. The band are playing the biggest headline show of their career to date half a planet away from home, yet have conjured the atmosphere of an intimate homecoming celebration.

What follows is a show that will live long in the memories of the band and their fans alike. From early favourites ‘In The Air’ and ‘Lay Down’ to new material such as ‘Silver’ and ‘Life Is A Game Of Changing’ from their hugely successful 5 x ARIA nominated album THE GLOW (#2 in Australia and #4 in the UK), the band, in full live mode, inspire a rapturous reception.

Today’s release of ‘Lay Down (Live at Brixton)’ (a fan favourite from the band’s debut album Hills End), along with the exhilarating live footage from the notorious evening, provides a sneak peak of what to expect, with a powerful, high energy performance boosted by a sizzling atmosphere and a blissful reminder of the power and wonder of a sold-out live show.

THE GLOW saw praise from the likes of The Sun (UK), Dork, Q Magazine (4 stars), Clash (8/10), NME AU, Rolling Stone AU and Consequence of Sound, plus appearances across national TV shows and daily newspapers. The album transcends genre pigeon-holing, with singles being added across Triple M, HIT Network, triple j, BBC Radio and Radio X.

12 January 2021: Triennial EXTRA, the NGV’s free late-night festival, returns in 2021 featuring a program stacked with live performances, DJs, dance, food, pop-up bars and after-hours access to the NGV Triennial exhibition, launching Friday 15 January and running nightly until 14 February. Over 31 nights local artists, musicians and dancers will perform throughout the Gallery responding to artworks in the NGV Triennial exhibition. Meanwhile in NGV’s Grollo Equiset Garden the Triennial Summer Stage will feature nightly guest DJ sets, presented in partnership with Melbourne Music Week. Award-winning Melbourne chef Adam D’Sylva will transform the NGV’s Garden Restaurant and new outdoor dining space into a pop-up restaurant exclusively for Triennial EXTRA. Open for lunch and dinner daily, the restaurant presents an exciting and accessible menu of shared plates, inspired by D’Sylva’s popular modern Indian eatery Tonka. Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV, said “Triennial EXTRA will champion the best of Melbourne’s art, music and dining during a time when Melburnians are looking to reconnect with our city’s creative talents. Newly commissioned works by local performers responding to the NGV Triennial will present the exhibition in a new light throughout the late-night season.” Highlights from the Triennial EXTRA program include: AS SHE FLOATS BY SCOTTY SO – Tue-Sun, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm - Exhibiting NGV Triennial artist Scotty So appears across the Ground Level of NGV International silently lip syncing a Chinese Opera inspired by the myth of the Chinese moon goddess Chang'e. Dressed in a holographic Tang dynasty style Hanfu robe with hair and makeup styled after the traditional images of the moon goddess, So performs as an offering to the spirits of the space. SCARLETT NIGHT BY SCOTTY SO –Tue-Sun, 8:30 pm - 9:00 pm - Scarlett So Hung So, artist Scotty So’s drag persona, takes visitors on a journey through time in Adam Nathaniel Furman and Sibling Architecture’s NGV Triennial installation Boudoir Babylon 2020, paying homage to Japanese actress and singer Yoshiko Yamaguchi, 60s songstress Rebecca Pan, Greek diva Maria Callas and Australia’s queen of pop Kylie Minogue. OPENING WEEKEND DJS – 15, 16 & 17 Jan, 6.00 pm – 9.00 pm - Setting the scene on the Forecourt and in the Garden, local DJs performing during EXTRA’s opening weekend include emerging talent Millú; local nightlife mainstay Andee Frost; disco, funk and electronic specialist Edd Fisher; and multifaceted classical house DJ and curator Merve. Paired with Koons’ mirror-polished, stainless steel NGV Triennial sculpture Venus 2016-20, McIntosh reframes the US artist’s creative genius through the durational embrace of two young female dancers. LUCENT BY NAREE VACHANANDA – Mon, Wed & Fri, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm - Naree Vachananda explores the classic Japanese Noh theatre in a choreographed performance titled Lucent. The presentation draws upon connections between Noh theatre and Cerith Wyn Evans’s NGV Triennial light work C=O=D=A 2020 with dancers creating an arc of movement with their bodies to interpret the complex forms of Wyn Evans’ white neon sculpture. SPOTLIGHT ON SHADOWS BY SHINJITA ROY – Mon, Wed & Fri, 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm & 8:00 pm - 8:30 pm - Choreographed by Shinjita Roy, Spotlight on Shadows combines Kathak, one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance, and the Salon et lumière 2020 installation, a digital recreation of the NGV’s British and European 19th century art Salon Hang. The Australian guitar-pop five-piece will perform for a second night at Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Sunday 23 May. Tickets to this newly-added Sydney show go on sale from 12noon AEDT on Wednesday 13 January.

‘Aussie indie band’s second album might be the best guitar record of 2020’
★★★★☆ Rolling Stone
Don’t miss your chance to see the group perform back on Australian stages for their biggest headline tour yet.
