DAZN, the leading global sports destination, has unveiled its latest DAZN Originals production “Club Ibiza: The Sessions”. A unique, inside look at UD Ibiza, a Spanish football club driven by the passion of president Amadeo Salvo and his brothers David and Lalo who have a dream to take the team to La Liga.  The 5-part series features intimate interviews with Amadeo Salvo, Italian football superstar Marco Borriello and Ibiza-born international DJs Anna Tur and Manu Gonzalez, among others. The series’ exclusive title track was produced by dance pioneer and world-famous DJ Carl Cox and features new music by Anna Tur and Manu Gonzalez.  DAZN’s SVP Original Programming, Grant Best said about the participation of Anna Tur:  “Being able to bring together the music of Anna Tur and Carl Cox into the series was so important. I wanted our viewers to hear sounds not only enjoyed by many each summer on the island but that represent the heritage and soul of Ibiza. Anna Tur’s 'Yeu,Yeu,Yeu´ does this beautifully. When researching for the UD Ibiza documentary I wanted to have voices throughout that originated from the island. Away from the football project Anna Tur gives us the authenticity and purity of what Ibiza is about. Having people like Anna and Manu Gonzalez who are from Ibiza provided our viewers with the local knowledge and understanding of this beautiful magical place”. And in Anna Tur’s words:  “For me, recording with DAZN has been a great experience. It was a pleasure to work with such a professional, dynamic and creative team. I really like the fusion that they’ve made combining football with music, nature and leisure. The balance that the island needs. I am extremely happy to have collaborated with Carl Cox and my good friend Manu Gonzalez on the soundtrack”. Surrounded by iconic dance clubs, the world’s best DJs and the most stunning Balearic beaches, ‘Club Ibiza: The Sessions’ takes you on a season-long journey into the heart of the most famous island in the world. Through the eyes of Ibiza’s most passionate football fans, the series captures an exclusive look into the rise of a football club unlike any other, combining exclusive interviews with behind-the-scenes access and the wonders of the island. ‘Club Ibiza: The Sessions’ is now live on platforms in Austria, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Spain has gone live today, Dec. 28. Japan goes live tomorrow, Dec. 29. WA’s Pretty Uglys return for the new year with amped tune ‘Party Friends’

written by the partae

For Perth-via-Busselton trio Pretty Uglys, 2020 remained a fairly fruitful year even though the party/live music opportunities elsewhere around the country came to a screeching halt. Out on the West Coast, the band dedicated the year to the preparation of their forthcoming EP Party Friends, releasing two tracks in ‘Soak It Up’ and ‘Dreamland Delusion’ – both further establishing the band as one to watch.

And now, as 2021 kicks off with hope, excitement and much anticipation for a return to normal, the Pretty Uglys guys kick this new era off with the EP’s title track, releasing ‘Party Friends’ in January from their forthcoming EP set for release in 2021.

A track that demonstrates the band’s strong dynamic, a love for some classic surf rock influences and a lean further into confident new sounds and lyricism, ‘Party Friends’ is the quintessential Pretty Uglys vibe that that band is charging ahead into the New Year with.

“‘Party Friends’ is a track about the connection often made during those not-so-sober times with friends that leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. It’s also about feeling accepted by your mates, staying true to yourself and the importance of having friends around.” Pretty Uglys

Writing and recording the track as a collective out of Perth’s Sumo Studios, Pretty Uglys approached their latest single with this overarching theme of bonds and connection well in mind, as well as their eventual return to touring. With dates locked in for Western Australia throughout January, Pretty Uglys are gonna be out on stages and back with fans very soon.

“We couldn’t be any more stoked to be playing the run of shows in January. 2020 was a strange year for everyone and it feels amazing to have heaps of shows on the horizon again; even better to have so many of our mates’ bands joining us for the ride.” Pretty Uglys

PRAISE FOR PRETTY UGLYS

“Big fans of Skegss, Tired Lion and Violent Soho have found themselves a new favourite band!”
Triple J, Claire Mooney

“These dudes always deliver…”
Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe

“Pretty Uglys have come forward to keep a future for infectious surf-rock in a way that feels authentic and properly surf-rock, comparable to long-time pioneers in the sound from FIDLAR to Skegsss, but with an edge that keeps it distinct to them.”
Pilerats

“They belt out an infectious brand of surfy garage with an energy that most bands take years to develop.”
Happy Magazine

Didirri ‘It’s The Season’ Regional Victorian Tour – 170 Russell Melbourne – Supported by Eaglemont Review

by the partae December 23, 2020
written by the partae

Playing to a Sold Out and seated 170 Russell on Friday the 18th of December, Didirri mesmerized the Melbourne audience with his enchanting vocals, elegant songwriting and charismatic solo performance playing both acoustic guitar and keyboard.  Didirri carried himself with an oh so loveable honest and modest demeanor whilst capturing the attention of everyone within ears reach with the slightest tone from his soulful voice.  The crowd listened intently to every single song lyric and and every story between each song with huge respect and a noticeable feeling of awe.  Didirri is a young man who has a huge future ahead of him, we are all lucky to be able to witness this talented artist blossom.  Didirri was supported by the eclectic jangle/fuzz singer/songwriter Eaglemont who took the audience on a brutally honest ride of heart felt songs from tales of growing up and being grown up, hats off to the both of you.

Tones And I returns to busk in Bourke Street Mall

by the partae December 22, 2020
written by the partae
Australia’s breakout global star, Tones And I, has helped bring music back to Melbourne’s streets by returning to her former busking spot in Bourke Street Mall.

Tones And I made the surprise performance to help support local shops, restaurants, cafes and bars recovering from the impact of COVID-19.

After beginning her career busking on the streets of Melbourne and Byron Bay, her breakout single, Dance Monkey, was released in May 2019 and has now reached number one in more than 30 countries.

Dance Monkey was the second most streamed song in the world in 2020, with almost 2 billion streams on Spotify and 7 billion streams across all platforms.

The final pop-up performance was the result of a partnership between the Victorian Government, Mushroom Group and the City of Melbourne.

Participating artists included Daryl Braithwaite, Missy Higgins, Gordi, Mark Seymour, Vika and Linda, the Pierce Brothers and Hayley Mary.

The initiative is supported by the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne through the $100 million Melbourne City Recovery Fund.

In an initiative to increase the number of street performers, the City of Melbourne is calling for buskers to come forward and apply for a free permit and bring even more music and performance art to the streets.

Busking permits will remain free until June 2021 in recognition of the important role that buskers can play in our city’s character and culture.

Quotes Attributable to Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece:
“After one of the world’s longest lockdowns, it’s such a thrill to see a global star performing in Bourke Street Mall.

As a former busker who has become an international star, Tones And I understands the joy of live music and how it brings people together.

We want this performance to inspire buskers to come back to our city. We’ve waived busking fees for until June 2021 because we want hundreds more street performers to help activate our streets.”

Quotes Attributable to Tones And I:
“It was so good to get back to my roots and busk where it all started for me.

I’m in music as I love writing & playing live. Busking is as real as it gets and I’m so happy I got to do it again for everyone who has supported me.”

Summer Nights Live brings two nights of stellar Australian talent to Parramatta Park this January!

by the partae December 16, 2020
written by the partae

Bringing music to the thriving hub of Parramatta in the New Year, the inaugural Summer Nights Live festival is hosting a strong lineup for 2021!

On January 25 and January 26, music fans will be able to revel in peak Sydney summer vibes with the likes of The Veronicas, Kingswood, Jon Stevens, ARC, Bonnie Anderson and Jackie Brown Jr  at The Crescent, Parramatta Park. The nighttime events are family friendly affairs, presented by the City of Parramatta Council in partnership with Live Nation, and Parramatta Park Trust.

Melbourne’s favourite rockers Kingswood make their triumphant return to Sydney after spending 2020 releasing three records and more recently returning to live stages, selling out ten shows in Melbourne’s newly reopened, COVID-safe live music environment. Queensland pop stars The Veronicas have been reintroducing their fire brand of music to fans at home in recent years, with international successes elevating the Origliasso sisters to new levels of renown, before returning home. The hitmakers return to the stage in Sydney this summer for an unforgettable set. Kicking off the festivities will be none other than Jackie Brown Jr.

After a sell-out tour in 2019 Australian rock royalty Jon Stevens (Noiseworks, The Dead Daisies, INXS) will be headlining Australia day night.  When it comes to ARC, the weight of the band’s accomplishments is heavy. Featuring members Darren Middleton from Powderfinger, Mark Wilson from Jet, Kram from Spiderbait and Davey Lane from You Am I, the band is a true testament to the history of modern Australian rock music. Joining them will be everyone’s favourite neighbour Bonnie Anderson.

For the artists involved, Summer Nights Live will be some of the first opportunities they will have had to perform since early 2020. The return of live music around the country is one many fans and artists alike have been hanging out for. And with the right measures now proving to be successful at a range of live music events tentatively rolled out recently, we’re looking forward to an exciting summer ahead.

“It has been too long, far too long! If we had to wait any longer to play big stage rock’n’roll show I think our collective heads would in perfect synchrony explode. And what a festival, in such a beautiful part of the world, to come and save us, and bring the music back to the people. We can’t wait.“ Fergus Lincare, Kingswood

With health and COVID-determined safety in mind, festival organisers have established Summer Nights Live to roll out in accordance with COVID-safe protocols throughout. Capacity will be limited at the site in line with NSW Health regulations and only limited tickets available.

Socially distanced seating, as well as ticketed registrations and COVID-safe check-ins will also be implemented at Summer Nights Live to ensure that the events are executed to the highest of standards.

The concerts are an exciting addition to the City of Parramatta’s broader Summer Nights program, as well as the Crescent Summer Series in Parramatta Park.

“In 2021, our popular Australia Day event is undergoing an exciting transformation with a new concert series taking place over two nights in our City’s beautiful, World Heritage-Listed Parramatta Park. I look forward to welcoming people back into our great City with this exciting event that will feature incredible performances from a line-up of top Aussie artists.”
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer

Tickets for Summer Nights Live are on sale through Moshtix from 12.00pm AEDT today. For more information on how to access the park via public transport or car, visit Parramatta Park’s website.

PRESS CLUB ANNOUNCE THE ELECTRIC EAGLE SOARS AGAIN TOUR

by the partae December 16, 2020
written by the partae

Clambering disheveled from underneath their respective stones, PRESS CLUB, announce their return to the tarmac of this great, southern land. The group will return to shattering hearts and odometers in 2021 when they repatriate with their true home. Ibis Budgets, calloused hands, and the ever-vibrant after midnight souvlaki scene, garlic sauce dripping onto the tops of airplane dehydrated leather shoes.

The band have flicked the switch to nuke the eastern seaboard through January and February 2021. In a music industry landscape where the goalposts keep shifting, PRESS CLUB are torpedo from the half-forward flank of the MCG. Hurtling in any capacity towards real rock and roll concerts.

It’s been a day and a year since the bands last headline show in 2019. In the time since they have been using any legal minute to spit out new songs together. Given the time in between drinks, anticipate tunes unheard, songs unsung and notes unplayed.

PRESS CLUB descend like flies for sixteen shows across Australia. The majority of dates having two shows to deal with the staggering demand for blood pumping through veins and speakers cracking.

THE FORTITUDE MUSIC HALL PRESENTS ‘STRINGS ATTACHED’ CONCERT SERIES WITH BRISBANE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

by the partae December 16, 2020
written by the partae

Brisbane’s premier venue, The Fortitude Music Hall is teaming up with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and a unique selection of Australia’s finest touring talent for the inaugural Strings Attached series kicking off in February 2021.

Produced by The Fortitude Music Hall team in conjunction with Conductor Emeritus Antoni Bonetti & Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, Strings Attached is possible thanks to the support from Federal Government’s RISE Grant initiative with recipients announced today.

Taking place quarterly at The Fortitude Music Hall, each Strings Attached show will feature 25 members from Brisbane’s best-loved community orchestra onstage, performing alongside a different contemporary artist.

Showcasing the depth, legacy, and brilliance of Australia’s deep pool of local talent, Strings Attached is a collision of sonic worlds, making for a spectacular and memorable series of events for fans of both classical and contemporary music. The official line up of artists playing alongside BSO will be announced in early 2021.

The Brisbane Symphony Orchestra will be led by Antoni Bonetti, the Orchestra conductor and violinist. Bonetti is Music Director and Founding Conductor of the 70 member Brisbane Symphony Orchestra and Noosa Orchestra.

Antoni Bonetti says “Brisbane Symphony Orchestra is always pleased to accompany Australian contemporary artists and play music by Australian composers. We have a proud history of accompanying singers and instrumentalists and have in the past collaborated with Brisbane Band “Valtozash”. We often commission and perform Australian composers such as Elena Kats-Chernin and will be premiering a work of hers during our concert season this year.”

The Fortitude Music Hall’s John Collins (JC) says the chance to pull together this kind of talent was a no-brainer. “We’re absolutely chuffed that the Federal Government have come on board to support this. It’s the first time we’ve done anything like it and it’s going to be so special hearing such a full sound behind some of our best talent with The Fortitude’s epic acoustics. Our team have a huge line up planned for the series and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

Federal Member for Brisbane Trevor Evans said “We’re thrilled to support Brisbane’s very own The Fortitude Music Hall and Queensland Symphony Orchestra on this unique and compelling event. It’s exciting to see live music back in Brisbane again and these concerts are a great step forward in helping the local arts community recover from what has been a very difficult year, for both artists and audiences. A strong and thriving creative and cultural sector is imperative in rebuilding our local economy after COVID-19”.

The Strings Attached line up will be announced in early 2021.

The group will traverse the country, stopping off at Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Wollongong, Canberra, Sydney, Central Coast, Frankston, Melbourne, Geelong, Belgrave, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Hobart and Caltowie.

“After moving and cancelling a bunch of dates in 2020, it feels good to finally be announcing something that is more likely to go ahead,” says guitarist Jimmy Young. “Anyone who knows us well, understands how important playing live shows is to us, so fingers crossed we’ll be able to get out there and make up for lost time with some banging parties.”

Gold Coast-based New Zealand born rapper Saint Lane will join the lads on all dates (excluding Sunshine Coast, Hobart and Caltowie). The rapper burst onto the scene in 2019, picking up praise from the likes of triple j, The Needle Drop, NME, The Guardian, GQ, Billboard and Beats 1 with Briggs. He’s also traversed the country, sharing stages with Lime Cordiale, JID and Bootleg Rascal.

Multiple tracks have been added to Spotify and Apple Music playlists, high rotation on triple j and they’ve performed on the station’s esteemed ‘Like a Version’ segment.

The band have continually traversed the globe playing multiple sold out headline shows in France, UK, Holland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and performed sold out shows in the USA. They’ve also regularly appeared on major Australian festivals including Falls Festival, The Big Pineapple Festival, Lost Paradise, Hills are Alive, Festival of the Sun and Party in the Paddock.

The group are currently in the studio working on another record, set for release in early 2021. In the coming weeks, they’ll also announce a scavenger hunt for free tickets and merchandise, that will launch via their social media platforms.

THE SOUND
MAKING GRAVY CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
FINAL EPISODE OF 2020!
SUNDAY 20 DECEMBER, 6PM ON ABC + iview
  • Tune in for the Season 2 finale – ‘Making Gravy Christmas Special’ starring Paul Kelly, The Teskey Brothers with Orchestra Victoria, Baker Boy with Dallas Woods feat. Sampa The Great, Ballpark Music, Alex Lahey, Vika & Linda, Dan Sultan with Leah Flanagan, and Alex The Astronaut
  • Locations as far flung as Botswana to Brisbane!
  • Watch The Sound on ABC and iview – airs Sundays 6pm + repeats Saturdays 1.30pm
Eight episodes, 80 artists, 66 locations, nine guest hosts, 1 x closed airport runway, 1 x big boat and 1 x ice cream truck… it’s almost a wrap on Season 2 of The Sound for 2020!
Created and produced by Mushroom Vision and the ABC, The Sound celebrates the best new Australian music by putting contemporary artists on prime time, free-to-air TV.Across two seasons in 2020, we’ve captured stunning live performances at iconic music venues and locations here in Australia and abroad, at a time when our live music industry was brought to its knees.

The list of performers is a dream line-up: from Kylie Minogue, Archie Roach, Nick Cave, Midnight Oil, Amy Shark, Guy Sebastian, Mary Seymour, Birds of Tokyo, Courtney Barnett, Missy Higgins, The Rubens, Jimmy Barnes, Tones And I, The Avalanches, Julia Jacklin, Bliss n Eso, Jessica Mauboy, Kate Ceberano, Something For Kate, Middle Kids and more….

To arresting newcomers such as BENEE, Sam Fischer, Miiesha, Ruel, Dallas Woods, Azure Ryder, Mia Wray and many others. Plus, incredible weekly ‘Tribute’ collaborations that have wowed fans across the land!

We’ve got one more present for you to unwrap this festive season, and it’s gonna be a good one…

Tune into ABC and iview this coming Sunday 20 December at 6pm for The Sound: Making Gravy Christmas Special – inspired by one of Australia’s most iconic songwriters and featuring performances by:

  • Paul Kelly: Australia’s greatest and most enduring songwriter, responsible for the iconic ‘How to Make Gravy’ song, typically takes his spectacular Making Gravy outdoor live shows across the nation each December. Tune in this Sunday to watch previously unseen live footage, captured at Kelly’s incredible sold-out Gravy show at The Domain, Sydney
  • Recorded at Hamer Hall, Melbourne, with the 45-piece Orchestra Victoria, we get a sneak peek at The Teskey Brothers’ upcoming YouTube special (live 22 December). Run Home Slow has been acclaimed as one of the best records of 2020
  • Baker Boy with Dallas Woods feat. Sampa The Great – filmed at VIC’s sacred Hanging Rock and, incredibly, with a shoot also taking place in Botswana, this performance of the ultra-smooth ‘Better Days’ threads together Yolngu Matha, English and Bemba languages in an incredible mix… this is one exclusive you don’t want to miss!
  • Brisbane popsters Ball Park Music released their latest record Ball Park Music – The Album back in October to much fanfare. We caught up with the band at Brisbane venue The Triffid this week, to catch them performing new single ‘Cherub’
  • It’s been a huge year for Vika & Linda. They entertained us with weekly lockdown performances from home, while their gorgeous gospel album Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso) debuted at #2. It wouldn’t be Making Gravy without them so don’t miss them performing one of their most-loved hits, filmed at Melbourne’s St Michael Uniting Church
  • Promising new music in 2021 is multi-award winner Dan Sultan, joined on The Sound this week with Darwin’s Leah Flanagan. Dan performs a stunning version of his ode to inner-city Melbourne – ‘Old Fitzroy’, captured live at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace in Cremorne, NSW
  • Hey ho let’s go! Alex Lahey loves Christmas songs – so much so that she released her own version of the Ramones’ classic ‘Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)’. We catch Alex at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl
  • Acclaimed singer/songwriter Alex The Astronaut released her debut record The Theory of Absolutely Nothing in 2020, scoring a triple j Feature Album. She joins us to perform her latest song ‘I Think You’re Great’, live from Brisbane’s Riverstage

That’s it for us in 2020. A huge thank you to each of the performers and special guest hosts who’ve appeared on The Sound to date… It’s been a pleasure working with you – and we look forward to doing it all again!

Lastly, to our viewers: thank you for embracing our new live music TV show so warmly. Much of The Sound was produced in Melbourne, during a harsh COVID lockdown. We’ve received thousands of messages and social media posts and reading how much you’ve loved tuning into The Sound each week has made it even more worthwhile.

Don’t miss The Sound: Making Gravy Christmas Special – Sunday 20 December at 6pm on ABC and iview.
