ANNOUNCES ALBUM RELEASE SHOW AT THE VANGUARD, SYDNEY

“…charming Sydney singer songwriter churning out indie heartwarmers” – triple j

“…a star amongst the Sydney indie-rock world that in the year just gone started to find his footing in a national sense” – Pilerats

Sydney singer-songwriter Jack R. Reilly has released his long-awaited debut album, Middle Everything, out now on Lost Boy Records. The album was produced by Jonno Tooke from Cry Club.
BUY/STREAM MIDDLE EVERYTHING HERE
Jack R. Reilly explains the theme behind Middle Everything, “Middle Everything is me acknowledging the feelings and thoughts that come up while practicing meditation. During the writing process I was living alone in Kings Cross and spending a huge amount of time either meditating, or going for really long walks in to and around the city. I’d spend almost every Saturday and Sunday walking around with a notebook, finding little places to write. At night I’d come home and try to work shop those into songs. I received a lot of help from my long time producer and studio collaborator, Jonno Tooke (from cry club) to bring these songs out of my notebook, and the extreme talent of my live band to bring these songs to life.”In April, Jack R. Reilly won the triple j Unearthed NIDA music video competition. They produced the video for lead single, Blood, which premiered on Rage over the weekend.

Jack explains what Blood is about, “Blood is also a meditation of frustration. Of feeling as though I’m just working all the time. Where it differs from Who Can Say is that I’m more leaning in to it, throwing myself into the flood. Being honest with myself is a really liberating thing, and I’m feeling the frustration eases and I can remind myself that the work is the actual reward.”

He adds, “We wanted to explore the concept that, although it’s long and arduous, putting in work is a reward in itself. It also does a lot to capture my non-musical influences such as Dr Who, Batman and The Mighty Boosh.” about the video.

To celebrate the release of Middle Everything, Jack R. Reilly will be performing an album release show in November.

Introducing Wedance (위댄스) with anthemic pop feel-gooder ‘Ironism’ lifted from their 2020 LP Dance Pop + upcoming ‘Danceparty at Your Fingertips’ digital Australian tour

In the age of the anthropocene, where humankind reigns but humanity is scarce – an electro power pop duo from Korea seek to dismantle the self-serving psyche and conjure a joyous community of impenetrable, universal togetherness in its wake. Introducing Wedance (위댄스): a band, a statement, a warning. After releasing a treasure trove of glorious a-tonal, spasmodic pop bliss by way of 16 EPs and three full length albums since 2011, the beloved happiness conjurers are back with their latest LP Dance Pop featuring the certified banger, ‘Ironism’ (아이러니즘). To celebrate the release, Wedance are thrilled to announce that they will be heading to Australian palms, fingertips and screens of all sizes this October and November, in the country’s first ever national digital tour by a Korean artist.

Released in July 2020, Dance Pop is the outfit’s debut material to be available both physically and digitally, having previously offered all releases exclusively via small run CD pressings with mere handfuls only ever available to purchase at live shows. Thus, trying to collect the plethora of Wedance recordings is a feat in itself. This idea of a musical scavenger hunt, trying to piece together the entirety of an artist’s body of work in the age of digital and easily transmittable everything, greatly appeals to their fans. Now for the first time, Australian ears and audiences are finally able to delve into the wonderful world of Wedance, starting with the pied piper anthem of indie strangeness, ‘Ironism’.

“A poet of our time walks down the road. Even though the poet tries to walk with a clear mind, it doesn’t work. The ironies that are to be seen everywhere constantly irritate and simmer away until they eventually burst out in fury. Finally, the poet opens a notebook and writes down a new word “Ironism.” The ironic landscapes of the city, which used to confuse us became more vivid and clearer when we decided the name of the song would be ‘Ironism’” – Wedance (위댄스)

Dancing their way to Australian devices this spring, Wedance will bring their unprecedented energy, charisma and penchant for all things fashion to our virtual shores for four special performances across the country. Having previously performed in Australia at the 2016 Aus Asia Festival and the 2018 Bigsound Festival, as well as multiple Festival appearances throughout Asia and the world including Fuji Rock, Primavera Sound, Nuits Sonores, Bug Sounds, Baybeats and more, their upcoming virtual tour is not one to miss. This October, join Wedance for a run of online dance parties to end all dance parties as they take on Bigsound, Isol-Aid and The Tivoli, beckoning all to join in on the alt-bacchanal. Be sure to pack your dance shoes!

merci, mercy Releases Stand-Out Moment From Forthcoming EP, ‘Something You Like’ With Animated Lyric Video + Sells Out Three Shows At Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory + Fourth Show On-Sale Now And Exclusively Live-Streamed

“A knack for navigating palpable tensions, and translating them into refined, guitar-led melodies.” – V Magazine
“The energy is high and the music is as vibrant as her hair.” – Ones To Watch
“Boisterous and triumphant in its presentation…” – Lyrical Lemonade
“‘Fall Apart’ is a relatable reflection on cynicism in oneself.” – Coup De Main
“Her vocals are mellow, similar to Billie Eilish or Beabadoobee.” – EARMILK
“Combining youthful, quirky lyrics with an intensely catchy beat…” – EUPHORIA.
“The toe-tapping song weaves introspective and complex lyrics.” – Blanc Magazine
“Generating infectious electronica-infused pop…” – Atwood Magazine
19-year-old Sydney-based songstress merci, mercy is excited to share ‘Something You Like’ – from her debut EP no thank you, no thanks – with another cleverly animated lyric video from Bianca Bosso.

The heart of the EP, and radiating a beautiful and sincere energy, ‘Something You Like’ sees merci, mercy’s longing vocals gracefully stacked against twinkling textures of alt-pop. The delicate nature of the song makes it a stand-out moment from the release, and shows a new side to the artist, as she braces observations of a soured relationship over tender melodies. Produced by Chris Collins and premiered on Flaunt Magazine overnight, merci, mercy explains:

“This song really poured out of me and was the easiest one to write on the EP. The song was written from observing toxic relationships and seeing how someone can change you without you realising. It’s my go to song to play whenever I pick up my uke.”

‘Something You Like’ arrives on the back of three sold-out shows at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory and a newly announced fourth show for Friday October 23. The shows are merci, mercy’s first live performances ever, outside of her recently streamed set via ISOL-AID.

In addition to the announcement of the fourth show, merci, mercy is thrilled to share that the show will also be accessible to fans via a live-stream. This unique moment will bring together those in the venue and those from home for a very special celebratory performance.

Fans can gain access to the live-stream, by hitting the link HERE and following the prompts to either follow merci, mercy on Spotify, pre-add the EP on Apple Music or sign up to her mailing list. The first 1000 fans to register will gain access to the stream.

merci, mercy released her last single ‘Fall Apart’ this July. Produced by Edwin White (Vance Joy) and Joel Quartermain (G Flip, Meg Mac), and mixed by Spike Stent (CHVRCHES, Grimes, Post Malone), ‘Fall Apart’ juxtaposes the artist’s tough girl exterior with her tender heart. Spinning on triple j locally and added to a long list of playlists across Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon, the song has enamoured fans, and in conjunction with debut single ‘Fucked Myself Up’, has seen her streaming numbers grow to over 4.5 million.

no thank you, no thanks EP is a snapshot of mercy’s life at the age of 18. The six tracks are written from both personal experiences and observations of others and their experiences. “It was quite a therapeutic process for me to write these songs and I hope they might connect with people who have been through similar experiences,” she shares. It’s due for release on October 16.

ID&T Announces Reorganization

by the partae October 1, 2020
written by the partae

Amsterdam, September 28, 2020 – ID&T informed its staff today about its plan to implement a drastic reorganization. Since March, ID&T’s core business, organizing large-scale dance events, has come to a complete standstill due to COVID-19. In the plan, as presented today to staff, 40% of the jobs will be eliminated. Staff have been given the opportunity to submit ideas prior to the redundancy plan being finalized.

Ritty van Straalen, CEO of ID&T: “ID&T originated from a group of close friends with the same passion; bringing people together. This culture is still the foundation of the company almost 30 years later. These are therefore very difficult and emotional times for ID&T and of course all our employees. The impact of this crisis on our industry is unprecedented. Despite the fact that we also make use of government regulations and have reached a settlement with three of our four insurers in the dispute about the applicability of the insurance earlier this year, the losses are taking on enormous proportions and there is no clear view on what will happen next. Unfortunately, this means also for us that we can no longer avoid preparing for a worse scenario, in which it may still take a considerable time before we are fully operational again.”

ABOUT ID&T:
ID&T is founded in 1992 and organizes approximately 80 events a year. The ID&T group includes the companies b2s, ID&T Events, Q-dance, Monumental (Awakenings), Air Events, Art of Dance and VD Events and events such as Mysteryland, Amsterdam Open Air, Milkshake, Vunzige Deuntjes, Thunderdome, Defqon.1 Weekend Festival, Awakenings, Decibel Outdoor and Masters of Hardcore. Their events attract more than one million visitors a year. The ID&T group also encompasses Platinum Agency and Most Wanted DJ, two of the world’s largest hard dance booking agencies, as well as management agency Headliner Entertainment.

DJ Bone lines up DJ Stingray, Deetron, Anastasia Kristensen, Ben Sims, DR. Rubinstein, Spencer Parker and Surgeon for a special ADE FURTHER Weekender

by the partae October 1, 2020
written by the partae
This year’s ADE will take place as a series of online events and seminars. BUT for those Dutch Natives we will be running a special edition of DJ Bone Presents FURTHER Weekender at RADION Amsterdam on October 23, 24 & 25, 2020.

Taking over the whole complex for across three different nights, we will be theming each of the 3 rooms for a multi-sensory experience. DJ Bone’s creative vision to be presented with the help of RADION and some of our closest friends. This edition will take FURTHER to a whole new level and lay the groundwork for a new club model. This will conform to all government regulations and social distancing protocols to provide a safe alternative to the clubbing community until we can return to the pre-pandemic normal.

The event will take the form of a 3-hour journey through the club, beginning with safety checks for attendees. Once completed our specially trained staff will act as guides to transport you through the rooms to immerse yourself in FURTHER.

We begin in Café, here we will have the 1st headline DJ who will welcome the group. They will start the journey through the records that influenced their sound, taking breaks between the tracks to explain their selections and importance, while those in attendance begin the party.

Hour two will see a move into the De Grote Zaal where DJ Bone will be in residence taking fans through the music closest to his heart, for sessions similar to what we have seen since FURTHER launched at the beginning of June. Joining the man behind the party will be a selection of friends who he has played seminal B2B sets with over the years. An exclusive experience to be shared by the limited number of ticket holders.

The final hour and our guests will head into the De Bovenkamer. This the last of the club rooms we will be moving into, behind the decks you will find the final headline act of the night taking control of the beats for a slew of uplifting techno and house which will round off this special Weekender edition of FURTHER in style.

This will be a limited capacity event that will run across the entire club. The RADION staff will be specially trained to help orchestrate the movements between each of the rooms and guest’s safety will be ensured. This vision of an experiential club experience will draw on all the aspects we have always loved while offering up some new innovations that have been created to lift the nightclub experience to something truly special. DJ Bone is once again taking it FURTHER.

NOVEL ANNOUNCES FIRST MAJOR 2021 DANCE EVENT, SECRET INNER-CITY LOCATION

NOVEL ANNOUNCES FIRST MAJOR 2021 DANCE EVENT, SECRET INNER-CITY LOCATION

by the partae September 30, 2020
written by the partae

It’s been a tough year for many, and with over six months since Novel’s last event, it’s been a quiet one too. The agency, known for high-quality productions like B3 @ Marvel Stadium, Let Them Eat Cake @ Werribee Mansion and Pitch Music & Arts Festival, is waiting patiently like most other businesses to finally put up the ‘Doors Open’ sign.

As we start to see some light at the end of the tunnel, everyone can share in the small comfort that, at least, we are all in this together, a sentiment shared by Novel Director Daniel Teuma: ‘Without a doubt, for many, myself included, this has been a challenging year. Who knows what the other side will look like – but the silver lining here is that there is an ‘other’ side. We are choosing to focus on that.’

And by that he is referring to Novel’s first physical event launch since the start of the pandemic – a promising prospect set to open their 2021 account with a bang. The event will see the return of flagship series smalltown, a brand they roll out for top tier international dance acts including DJ KOZE, Nina Kraviz and Stephen Bodzin. The series is also known for conceptualising and utilising diverse and interesting locations, which in the past have included spaces like Caulfield Racecourse and St. Kilda Foreshore. ‘For our first event back we have secured a 5000 plus capacity inner-city location that has never been used before. It’s a location we’ve been working since before COVID.’ For now, however, Novel will announce the event at a later date. Why? ‘We like to build anticipation’, he says calmly before showing us a cheeky smile.

What we can parse out of him is that the location is in an industrial area and has acres of space. More importantly, its almost secluded location will ensure that sound restrictions will be a virtual non-problem. And that will be music to the ears of ticket holders – and the Full Throttle Entertainment team responsible for overseeing and installing their crisp Funktion-One Soundsystem.

So who will play at it? The headliner will be Maceo Plex who will be Ben Klock, who will make his first Australian appearance in two years. There can be no doubt that he is a Melbourne favourite, and you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who does not agree on his techno pedigree. Ben Klock would be worth the price of admission alone. Still, Teuma promises more announcements down the track: ‘We have more international artists lined up which we will announce over the next couple of months.’

Ben Klock (GER)

A fixture in Resident Advisor’s top-10 DJs for the best part of a decade, Ben Klock needs little introduction. Having become a Berghain resident in 2005, he has since established himself at the forefront of Berlin’s modern techno movement, an ever-present symbol of the city’s vast musical landscape. His long-standing relationship with the notorious techno institution has formed the backdrop to his success, providing an invaluable platform that has allowed him to become one of the most in-demand DJ-producers of his generation. Soundcloud

Single Launch shows: The Vanguard, Sydney – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 Lalala’s, Wollongong – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23 Having spent the past couple of years sweating it out in venues up and down the East Coast of Australia, Eddie Boyd AKA Human Noise (formerly Boydos) has returned with a fresh moniker, revived energy, and his strongest single to date.   Listening to his debut record It’s Alright, Look At Me I’m Young (2019), you wouldn’t have guessed all was not quite well in the camp of the Sydney muso. Swaying between heartful Jeff Buckley-esque songmanship and bouncy indie rock, all the while chronicling his foray into young manhood, IALAMIY quickly established him as one of the most exciting talents in the Australian musical ecosystem. Yet, the name “Boydos”, niggled away at the enigmatic songwriter.   “It always felt like a rushed choice to me” Boyd says of his former title. “I had been stewing on it for a long time and I just didn't feel connected to “Boydos”. I definitely think the new name represents the music better.”   Today we have the first taste of Human Noise’s as yet untitled sophomore album, recorded in New Zealand with NZ Music Award-winning producer Ben Edwards. ‘How Is It You Do That?’, which clocks in at two minutes and six seconds, is a frenetic melodic collage that explodes with energy.   With the drum beat charging toward the finish line, Boyd lets his vocals take center-stage. The emotion that bleeds through the speaker is simply electrifying. Ironically, the track lyrically centers around controlling your mind, or in Boyd’s case, a lack thereof:   “How Is It You Do That?’ is an ode to a friend and his ability to be calm under emotional stress. We were going through similar things at the same time and I really admired the way he could maintain such a rational and forgiving outlook. It was a challenging time for both of us and I’m really happy at how well that angst and frustration was captured in the studio.”   Directed and edited by Boyd himself, with AnnieRose Collis shooting on the night, the video encapsulates the frantic bones of the track. Shot in one take, Boyd gives the song the impassioned performance it deserves as a spattering of colours radiate in the background.   “I was just trying to think of economic ways to make a video clip that wasn’t terrible, and I definitely made a few terrible prototypes. We shot it at half the speed of the final edit, to give it that frantic, unhinged effect. We did a bunch of takes, because if the camera's not steady, it just looks crazy” he says. “There's a hilarious early take of me, loping around suburbia, singing full volume at half speed sounding like a total drunk.”   If you’re late to the Human Noise party, now’s the chance to sink your teeth in. The new record is expected early 2021 and if ‘How Is It You Do That?’ is anything to go by, the birth (or rebirth) of Human Noise is something you don’t want to sleep on.   “I'm really excited for everything to be heard, which is a different feeling than I had with the first album,” Boyd says. “I feel more confident in the lyrics. I just feel like ... Yeah, I feel excited about everything.”   How Is It You Do That? is out now through Ditto Music.   Single Launch shows: The Vanguard (Sydney) – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 Lalala’s (Wollongong) – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23   Ticketing info HERE CONNECT WITH HUMAN NOISE

The Vanguard, Sydney – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15

Having spent the past couple of years sweating it out in venues up and down the East Coast of Australia, Eddie Boyd AKA Human Noise (formerly Boydos) has returned with a fresh moniker, revived energy, and his strongest single to date.

Listening to his debut record It’s Alright, Look At Me I’m Young (2019), you wouldn’t have guessed all was not quite well in the camp of the Sydney muso. The 2021 Bluesfest Third Artist Announcement is a legendary list of exceptional artists who join what is already an incredible line up of Australian talent confirmed to perform next Easter on April 1 – 5th at the beautiful green Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm located 10 minutes north of Byron Bay.

Commenting on the announcement Festival Director, Peter Noble OAM says “Look at this line up – all that talent. When it comes to musical talent Australia is an embarrassment of riches and it is a privilege to create a line up to clearly showcase that very fact.”

Legendary psych-rock guitar stars The Church step on to the Bluesfest stage for the very first time and headline this Third Artist Announcement for 2021 Bluesfest.  Award winning singer-songwriter and Euro Vision 2019 success story Kate Miller- Heidke will bring her touch of class,  whilst punk inspired rock band The Living End with their blend of rockabilly and punk and eternal rock-stars The Angels bring their exhilarating and raw live energy to this powerful line up.  Rock royalty and bona fide legend  Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks have signed on and will be pumping out the non-stop hit machine featuring songs from Daddy Cool to Mondo Rock.  Joining them are festival favourites Blue King Brown,  headed up by the dynamic no-holds- barred pocket rocket Nattali Rize. “Bluesfest is one of our favourite festivals on the planet. We’re looking forward to returning to Australian shores and bringing the full power Blue King Brown show home!” Says Nattali Rize.

With 14 Bluesfest performances behind him, the first in 1994, Jeff Lang is a legend in his own right. Said to play the guitar with the devils in his fingers,  Jeff has won three ARIA Awards and his live performances are always a guaranteed showstopper. Adding more femme force to the bill is the return to Australia from the now Nashville based singer-songwriter Kara Grainger,  her soulful vocals and unique style of slide guitar has earned her ‘opening’ performance slots with Peter Frampton, Buddy Guy and Taj Mahal to name a few. Many in the business will be watching what this lead singer from the much-loved “Papa Lips” is doing now.

The Church

Australian psych-rock guitar masters The Church enter their fifth decade of making music with all the fierce creative energy of their early years. With new members introduced, the band are deep into recording the band’s 25th studio album, 40 years after their formation and will perform at Bluesfest for the first time in 2021. The 2020 epic line-up is bassist, vocalist and founder Steve Kilbey; with longtime collaborator Tim Ebandit Powles drummer and producer across 17 albums since ’94; guitarist Ian Haug who joined the band in 2013 and Jeffrey Cain, touring multi-instrumentalist who is now a full-time member of The Church since the departure of Peter Koppes in early 2020. The band have also recently recruited one of Australia’s finest and most respected guitarists Ashley Naylor (Even, The Grapes). Ashley and Steve have collaborated on many different projects over the years and now was the perfect time to bring Ashley into the band.

Kate Miller-Heidke

Award winning singer-songwriter and Euro Vision 2019 success story Kate Miller-Heidke traverses the worlds of contemporary pop, folk, and opera.  She has released four studio albums including the top 5 album O Vertigo!, and Curiouser, which reached double platinum sales and featured the multi-platinum hits ‘The Last Day On Earth’ and ‘Caught In The Crowd’, which won Grand Prize in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition.

She won the 2016 Helpmann for Best Australian Contemporary Concert.

Trained as a classical singer at the Queensland Conservatorium, Kate has performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and several roles for the English National Opera. Her debut opera as a composer, The Rabbits, won 4 Helpmann Awards including Best Score and Best New Australian Work. With her collaborator Keir Nuttall, she has written the music and lyrics to Muriel’s Wedding: The Musical, which premiered at the Sydney Theatre Company and played throughout 2019 in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

 The Living End

The Living End consider themselves to be a rock ‘n’ roll band based on punk ethics, citing The Clash, Iggy Pop, The Who and The Jam as influences and bands with whom they share the same ideals.  Formed in 1994 and since 2002 the line up consists of Chris Cheney (vocals, guitar), Scott Owen (double bass, vocals) and Andy Strachan (drums).  The band rose to fame in 1997 after the release of their double A-sided single, ”Second Solution” / “Prisoner of Society”, which peaked at No. 4 on the Australian Singles Chart and went on to sell triple platinum. They have released seven studio albums and two reached the No. 1 spot on the Australian Albums Chart - self-titled album (12 October 1998) and State of Emergency (4 February 2006). They have also gained chart success in the United States and the United Kingdom.  Said to be one of Australia’s most ferocious live acts, their blistering live performances have earned the band an enviable position as one of Australia’s greatest live bands.

The Angels

Delivering raucous hard rock in the tradition of contemporaries like AC/DC and Rose Tattoo, the Angels are among the longest-lasting and most beloved bands ever to emerge from the Australian pub circuit. Their roots date back to 1973, when singer Doc Neeson and guitarist Rick Brewster first teamed up, but it was really in 1976 when they really started making their mark. Discovered by  AC/DC‘s Angus Young and Bon Scott, and signed to their label Albert Productions, their first single, ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’ was an instant hit – and set The Angels on their loud and proud rock journey.

Albums ‘The Angels,’ No Exit’, ‘Face To Face’, ‘Night Attack’, ‘Beyond Salvation’ and more followed …
and the Angels rock juggernaut rolled on through the decades. They lost two original members, Chris Bailey and Doc Neeson, but have never wavered in their musical mission.

Thirteen studio albums, eight Top 10 albums, 17 Top 40 singles … but that tells only part of The Angels story. It’s the relationship with the audience that means everything to the band, built via thousands of gigs. An exhilarating exchange of energy, legendary live shows, raucous audience ‘call-backs’, high-energy, high-voltage sets have made The Angels synonymous with Aussie pub-rock – and continues to keep The Angels at the forefront of our music industry as one of the most beloved rock bands in Australia. The Angels remain fierce and uncompromising. They have always done things their own way. So many of their songs   ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’, ‘Take A Long Line’, ‘Comin’ Down’, ‘Shadow Boxer’, ‘No Secrets’ … and more…. are bone-fide Australian anthems, calling out to be sung at high volume in a hot sweaty atmosphere. Featuring Dave Gleeson [Screaming Jets] on lead vocals and still run by founding members John Brewster and Rick Brewster you better answer that call and rally front and centre when The Angels play their first Bluesfest show.

Ross Wilson and The Peaceniks

From ‘Daddy Cool’ to ‘Mondo Rock’ and as a solo artist with no less than 26 ARIA Top 40 hits to his credit as a singer, songwriter and producer, Ross Wilson is one of Australia’s most awarded, respected and well-known artists! The legendary band ‘Daddy Cool’ whose number one anthem ‘Eagle Rock’ smashed all previous sales records in Australia, to the 1977 formation of ‘Mondo Rock’, delivering 80’s hits ‘Cool World’, ‘State of The Heart’, ‘Chemistry’, ‘No Time’, and ‘Come Said The Boy’ and into the 21st century as a solo performer, Ross Wilson has never been out of the limelight. Twice inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, Wilson has written hits for Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham and Joe Cocker, and produced smash hit albums for Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons, Skyhooks and Screaming Jets. Come back again to see an absolute solid gold legend of rock and his full band ‘The Peaceniks’ perform all his hits this year at 2021 Bluesfest.

Blue King Brown

Hailed by Santana as “The voice of the street and the band of the future!” Blue King Brown, is Australia’s premier live urban roots & reggae powerhouse act. Their cross-generational groove and socially conscious sound is lead by the multi talented, relentless energy of Nattali Rize. Powerful vocal & lyrical delivery’s meet a roots, rock & afro groove mash-up built on an irrepressible percussive foundation, cementing their highly regarded live reputation. A force of nature onstage Blue King Brown are festival favourites and return to Bluesfest for the eighth time this year.

Jeff Lang

This will be the 15th Bluesfest performance for Australian guitarist-songwriter-vocalist-producer, Jeff Lang who made his Bluesfest debut in 1994. Jeff has built a reputation for making startling music that is accomplished, intricate, gutsy, melodic and loaded with soul. Often taking unexpected turns, he has consistently inspired his audiences by creating a stylistically diverse catalogue of over 30 albums.  As many journalists have written over the years, Jeff is not one to be easily pegged, though in a general sense it’s fair to say he largely trades in roots-oriented rock; wider reaching in collaborations with the likes of roving guitar anthropologist the late Bob Brozman, American blues-rocker Chris Whitley, India’s desert-dwellers Maru Tarang and world music virtuosos Bobby Singh and Mamadou Diabate. Jeff’s work with the latter won the 2010 ARIA for Best World Music Album, while he and Brozman took one home for Best Blues and Roots Music Album in 2002. Jeff received that same award on his own in 2012 for the album ‘Carried In Mind’. In 2020 Jeff published his first book – “Some Memories Never Die” – a memoir of three decades on the road; Memories of gigs where the pay was akin to blood money, reflections on how the road’s twists and turns can be lightened by the presence of fellow travellers and occasionally darkened by them too.

Kara Grainger

Some people just have music running through their veins. Kara’s music journey has taken her all around the globe. From her inner city beginnings in the town of Balmain, Sydney Australia, she has since performed and toured in Japan, Indonesia, India, Switzerland, Germany, the UK, and the USA. Her soulful vocals and unique style of slide guitar has caught the attention of many well renowned artists, she’s opened the show for Peter Frampton, Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, Taj Mahal, Marc Cohen and Eric Johnson to name a few. Kara has been based in Nashville and returns to Australia after a long stint abroad. Many will be watching what she will bring to the stage on this occasion.

BEATPORT LIVE STREAM XX STEREO 2020

Last Thursday, September 17th (Pacific Time) and Friday 18th (European Time), the Spanish label hosted a Beatport Live Stream from a unique location, the Calderon Theater in Valladolid, in Spain. The event revolved around the concept of defense of culture and Art. The line-up featured familiar Stereo names and also brand new talents: DJ Chus, Sparrow & Barbossa, Óscar de Rivera, Oscar L, D-Formation and La Santa. During the DJ session, Kike Garcinuño captured in one of his paintings what he called the ‘Techno Virus of 2020‘. The Work will be auctioned, and the proceeds will be donated to a non-profit organization to help artists affected by the Pandemic.

DJ CHUS REMIXED BY SPARROW & BARBOSSA

Stereo Productions, for the celebration of its 20th anniversary, launches an extraordinary project.

For the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Stereo Productions, we have an extraordinary project in which Chus himself has chosen his favorite producers to remix three of his most iconic studio productions: ‘El Amor,’ ‘World Routes,’ and ‘Black Rain.’

But the relationship didn’t start there. Read our full story:

Emiliano (AKA Uru) Haberli and Bryan Coletta are the names behind the infamous duo Sparrow & Barbossa. Uru (Barbossa) was the original percussionist in DJ Chus & Joeski’s ‘El Amor’ back in 2003. The stars aligned when Chus got in touch with the duo after they reached #1 with their Yeke mix, one of Chus’s favorites. Now, 20 years later, Uru has crafted the drums sequence again. Bryan (Sparrow) is a pianist and comes from a musical family. His father is the legendary guitarist Francis Coletta, who worked with artists like Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, and Frank Sinatra.

‘El Amor (Sparrow & Barbossa Remix)’

The Pirates duo has kept the original essence of Caterina’s sensual and enraptured Brazilian voice blending in perfect harmony with the timeless bossa nova bassline. Uru rebuilt the percussion section, giving it an extra samba-esque breeze; meanwhile, Bryan plays the afro synths with new sounds that rouse emotive reactions.

‘World Routes (Sparrow & Barbossa Remix)’

The original track was one of the most significant pillars of Iberican Sound, colored with plenty of organic elements. This gem takes on new skin with Sparrow & Barbosa bringing in afro rhythms, dense basslines, and a tribal house atmosphere while keeping the sensuality of the ethnic vocals, imprinting a confident message of joy and celebration.

‘Black Rain (Sparrow & Barbossa Remix)’

Black Rain is one of the most mature and profound of Chus’s works, based on the planet’s origins and the ancestral influences of his music. This Eden of organic elements builds a cinematographic soundscape in which the duo preserves the roots and emphasizes the bassline, capturing the original’s natural strength in an eyes-closed epic.

‘El Amor‘ will be available from September, 23rd via Stereo Productions.

SKY BALL ANNOUNCES MORE ACTS, MORE CONCERTS AND MORE TICKETS

by the partae September 23, 2020
written by the partae

Wow, it’s been a wild six-month ride to get to the Sky Ball.

Testimate to the mighty Pie in the Sky, Dashville has held on, riding the rollercoaster all the way through to today, where we can finally be proud to share with you the full program and playing times for Sky Ball kicking off from next weekend.

And somehow through the fog of the unknown, Dashville has managed to include more acts, more concerts and more tickets for what has now become a seated Covid-safe five-concert series for Sky Ball!  While the Sky Ball will look different to previous Dashville events in that there will be one single stage, folks can enjoy the performances within their own separate seated ‘party pen’ (holding groups of up to 10).

Sky Ball will roll a second weekend, on the 9th and 10th October.

Another two concerts have been added to the Sky Ball concert series, creating an overflowing cup of 4 local and regional NSW acts performing each night – over a series of 5 nights, across two weekends.

Artists included to the series line up include the heavy blues trio Chase The Sun, local Americana songwriter James Thomson, emerging soul diva Georgie Jones and a very special all-female project put together by the amazing Gleny Rae, titled ‘The Darlings of Dashville Show’.

Session 1 – 2nd October
Kim Churchill / Eagle & the Wolf / Dave Favours & The Roadside Ashes / Lachlan X. Morris

Session 2 – 3rd October
William Crighton / Fanny Lumsden / Justin Ngariki & The Dastardly Bastards / Corey Legge

Session 3 – 4th October
Catherine Britt / Chase The Sun / Ben Leece & Left Of The Dial / CJ Stranger

Session 4 – 9th October
Gleny Rae’s Darlings Of Dashville / Dave Wells / Johnston City / Georgie Jones

Session 5 – 10th October
Dashville Progress Society / Andy Nelson / James Thomson / Hedy Blaazer

Wow, how did this all happen you say?
Without going into it too much, let’s just say that due to a minor update in the wording on the NSW Government Public Health Order, where as of Sept 11, it now mentions that music festivals ‘attended by less than 2000 people’ are illegal. We had to prove to the local authority that Sky Ball was indeed a concert series and not operating as a music festival.

FUN FACT #1
Of the significant hurdles imposed by the government’s current legislation on the music industry, the biggest one is the fact that you need to be a ‘concert’ and a ‘concert’ can not have more than 4 acts or go for any longer than 5 hours. Any more than 4 acts in succession is not a concert, and even if it’s not a music festival by definition, it basically is a music festival and is illegal regardless of how many people attend.

FUN FACT #2
On the same weekend as Sky Ball, if you live within earshot, you’re likely to hear the 40,000 or so people at ANZ stadium, screaming away for their favourite football team.

So yes please rest easy music lovers, safe in the knowledge that after 5hrs of listening to live music, you won’t catch COVID off the gum trees, because funnily enough 4hrs and 59mins is the exact period of germination.

Despite the live music restrictions imposed by government legislation, you can still come and camp for 3 days, walk the bush, visit the vineyards, hang by your camp, busk under a gum tree. The prestigious Swoop Inn and Bird Bath Bar will be open breakfast, lunch and tea.

So the choice is yours, just make sure you’re front and centre when the music kicks off at 6pm.

With limited tickets still available, we’d love for you to join us if you can!

Whilst the large outdoor concert held at Dashville will only feature a small audience of around 250 people socially distanced, an additional component for punters to get excited about is the huge online component known as Sky Ball TV, which will feature all the artists performing, via a pay to view streaming concert series kicking off on Saturday 3rd October, running for the month of October.  Click here for details.

Background…

Here in Australia, whilst the situation remains relatively steady in NSW, the hard working team at Dashville, an outdoor venue based at Belford in the Hunter Valley, hit hard by the sudden closure, have kept their chin up and are working through this devastating period with valor.

In the thick of huge financial loss and uncertainty, the predominantly husband and wife team have successfully produced a series of small open air concerts for around 150 people (Dashville Nights), utilising a party pen‘ model that Event Producer Magpie Johnston, intrinsically came up with by himself.

‘When we were looking into the requirements of hosting a COVID Safe event, it was June and we were trying to work out how to lay it out. Wondering how the dynamic would work if people couldn’t hang by the fire. So in a sensible brain snap, we decided to give everyone their own small fire basket to sit by and that’s essentially how our now famous ‘party pen’ model started.’

With the success of Dashville Nights, came the vision for how to host the very special one off Sky Ball, a 3 day concert series that had been scheduled for the October Long Weekend. 2-4 October 2020.

The Sky Ball was created in haste as a recovery plan back in March when The Gum Ball was first cancelled. Information about the event has remained relatively dormant throughout winter as the situation with COVID unfolded. Now 2 weeks out, with an achievable vision in mind, it has evolved into a exciting concert series, with an amazing line up or local and regional NSW artists ready to converge on the property.

The title of the event is a testament to the two mighty Dashville festivals that never happened in 2020, The Gum Ball and Dashville Skyline. But the event itself is designed to be a sign of hope for a struggling industry battling to stay afloat amidst the COVID pandemic.

SKY BALL TV is a pay-to-view streamed event, happening via the internet from Saturday 3rd October 2020.
