BOSTON MANOR ANNOUNCE LIVESTREAMED SHOW TO BE BROADCAST FROM BLACKPOOL TOWER

BOSTON MANOR ANNOUNCE LIVESTREAMED SHOW TO BE BROADCAST FROM BLACKPOOL TOWER THREE SHOWINGS WILL TAKE PLACE ON 15 OCTOBER 8PM BST, 9PM EDT, 8PM AEST (16 OCTOBER IN AUSTRALIA)

by the partae September 22, 2020
written by the partae
Tickets available now at www.bostonmanorband.com

Blackpool’s very own Boston Manor will be performing a very special live show at their city’s most iconic monument – Blackpool Tower – on 15 October. The performance will be broadcast online across the globe at three different times – 8pm BST, 9pm EDT & 8pm AEST (16 October in Australia) – to accommodate fans worldwide. Tickets are available now.

Having recently released their highly-charged and critically-acclaimed third album GLUE, in the midst of lockdown, this online event will be the first chance to connect with Boston Manor’s new music in a live setting, albeit in a slightly different experience to the usual Boston Manor live show.

Says the band’s vocalist Henry Cox:

“Since Boston Manor formed in 2013 we have never played a hometown show. One of the main issues surrounding having a hometown show was Blackpool being a little off the beaten track – we didn’t know how many of our fans would be able to make it to a show there. When lockdown happened & our headline tour got rescheduled (twice) we decided the perfect way to do a livestream event would be to bring the world our first ever hometown headline show, to play our new album live for the first time & to show our fans where we come from & why Blackpool means so much to us. We will be performing a full set at Blackpool Tower in the iconic Tower Ballroom on Thursday October 15th. The 500 ft landmark is a symbol of Blackpool, something we’ve been staring up at since we were kids, & the ballroom itself is world famous. It’s pretty unbelievable that we’ve been allowed to play here in all honesty. We’ve spent the last few months working on this show & we hope you can join us; it’s something that won’t be repeated.”

Your next chance to see Boston Manor live in the flesh will be at their UK headline tour in March 2021 but for now, grab the popcorn and kick back with what’s sure to be one of the livestreaming highlights of the year.

        PRAISE FOR GLUE:
“The voice of a new generation.” – Kerrang!“The finest album of their career.” – Rock Sound

“If the last year of our lives has been a Black Mirror episode then Boston Manor have provided the soundtrack to it with ‘GLUE’.” – Upset (5*)

“A bold and brazen album that will joyously haunt you.” – The Line of Best Fit (8.5/10)

“An extraordinary, timely record.” – CLASH (9/10)

“This is one hell of an important record.” – Punktastic

“not only do Boston Manor play for salvation, they hit the right notes for unity.” – Gigwise (8/10)

BOSTON MANOR ARE:
Henry Cox – Vocals  |  Michael Cunniff – Guitar  |  Ash Wilson – Guitar  |  Dan Cunniff – Bass  |  Jordan Pugh – Drums

Join Oliver Heldens journey through television with a new exclusive livestream experience ‘Heldens Everywhere’

Global DJ/producer Oliver Heldens invites fans to join him on an interactive journey through television in his epic, upcoming livestream concept ‘Heldens Everywhere.’ Oliver will play an hour-long, action-packed set on October 1st, 21:00 CEST, which will be streamed live on Cadenza.tv. Tickets are on sale now here.

Guided by a steady flow of dance-worthy beats, the livestream will put Oliver and a cast of characters in the middle of an evolving set design centered around six different nostalgic TV show concepts. Recorded live from an old industrial steel plant and theatre location in Amsterdam, the production will include an array of custom-built theatre set-pieces that will transform the physical space around Oliver into each of the six themes as he delivers a highly-anticipated live DJ set.

An artist in every sense of the word, Oliver’s creativity expands well beyond the realm of music. As an integral curator in the ‘Heldens Everywhere’ concept, the multi-platinum artist is set to demonstrate his wildly imaginative flair once again.

As recognized by numerous mainstream publications, Heldens has been coined one of the most prolific artists during the COVID-19 quarantine period. His recent livestream performances at The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam — which was labeled as “Set of the Year” by We Rave You — helped raise over $70,000 for the Equal Justice Initiative and Color Of Change in collaboration with Digital Mirage, (watch it here). Further, in partnership with Aston Martin, F1, Heineken and Red Bull, Oliver headlined the official F1 season opener to an audience of over half a million people who tuned in virtually. Meanwhile, Beatport revealed Oliver Heldens as the #1 selling Dance Artist in both the last year as well as the last 3 months on the platform, and Katy Perry called his remix of her single ‘Daisies’ her favorite remix of all time, and subsequently added it to her album.

Fans can access the show for $11.99 USD and also choose to upgrade their ticket to the VIP option, which includes a limited-edition poster only available for the livestream. Oliver will randomly sign 200 of the posters purchased. Ticket options and more information can be found here.

Oliver Heldens goes into HI-LO mode for techno beast 'Kronos'

Oliver Heldens goes into HI-LO mode for techno beast ‘Kronos’

by the partae September 22, 2020
written by the partae

HI-LO is back with another heavy duty banger to keep pulses racing and the spirit of the dancefloor alive inside all of us. ‘Kronos’ is an absolute monster and one of his toughest tracks to date.

Huge kick drums kick a hole in your speaker in a hardstyle fashion as the track begins. Hi-hats bite in perfect opposition. The rumblings of a bassline are just discernible in the depths. The breakdown arrives to lay on a rush-inducing synth arpeggio and reverberant, commanding bass tones. All that’s left is for a big snare roll to thrust us towards the drop, where the bass gnarls and warps further and more gritty groove inflection is injected. The second break lays on big, swirling chords that mimic the bass/lead melody and send the track soaring higher. The contrast between this dizzying, euphoric, build-up and the hammer-tough sections that surround it is incredibly pleasing. This one is set to be a big hit with the techno crowd.

‘Kronos’ continues HI-LO’s Greek god themed names following the acclaimed HI-LO singles ‘Poseidon’ and ‘Zeus’, which have become fixtures within the DJ community garnering support from the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, UMEK, Amelie Lens, Rebuke, Wehbba, Deadmau5 & more.

Heldens is riding high off the recent release of ‘Break This Habit’ with Kiko Bun, and has been working hard to keep his fans entertained online throughout this difficult year. He has been one of the most prolific artists during the pandemic, with We Rave You naming his live stream from The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as their ‘Set Of The Year’. It also helped to raise over $70,000 for Equal Justice Initiative and Color Of Change in collaboration with Digital Mirage. He also headlined the Formula One season opener to over half a million people worldwide, and Beatport recently revealed him as their bestselling Dance Artist of the last year. Katy Perry also called his remix of her recent single ‘Daisies’ her favourite remix of one of her own tracks that’s ever been commissioned, and she added it to her album as a result.

Also look out for Oliver Heldens’ newly-announced live streaming concept, Heldens Everywhere, which will take virtual events to a new level of production and originality. With a large budget allocated to the production, it’s a truly special event with major live stream player Cadenza.tv powering it, it’s set to be a truly unique pay-per-view event for fans.

The world’s premier electronic music cruise returns with 30+ artists, live performances, mixed visuals, and #GCFAM parties, with major talent all weekend long.

Miami, FL (Sept 20, 2020) – Whet Travel, the leader in independent music cruise experiences, prepares for one of their largest Groove Cruise Virtual Sail Aways Live streaming events to date. The weekend of Sept. 25-27 will see 30+ live performances from worldwide headliners such as Tritonal, Autograf, Jorn Van Deynhoven, Mark Sixma, Solarstone, and more. The floating-festival-gone-virtual will kick off on Friday, September 25, 2020, and the weekend will host all live performances; plus donation incentives like exclusive Groove Cruise merchandise, Artist Activities, and backstage experiences aboard their upcoming Miami sailing this Jan 7-11, 2021! Their previous Sail Aways hit an all time high with just over 640,000 live viewers – totaling up to 6.19 million total minutes watched on the GC twitch, their main streaming platform . As a top tier twitch partner, Groove Cruise was featured on the Twitch frontpage throughout the weekend; plus saw organic support from Amazon Music and was a trending fundraiser on Tiltify. It’s obvious to see that the GC Captains, also known as those who make up their community, are always excited to dance all weekend long with their favorite music cruise. The Whet Travel team has expressed nothing, but positivity towards continuing to give their vast music community a fun weekend and support within these hard times.

This online music festival will also feature Whet Travel’s interactive WhetZoom video chat room for viewers to watch, dance, and donate together, simulating an in person Groove Cruise sailing. Up to 500 #GCFAM are able to video chat, dance, and enjoy on the platform. This feature is special because it gives viewers a truly human connection and an essential interaction alongside the show. The WhetZoom screen window will be featured during the livestream so everyone watching will be able to see the charity celebration.

With recent news that their Big Grief tour would only be going ahead in a limited format, Brisbane heavy hitters WAAX, while crushed to have had to take these measures are committed to make it up to their loyal fans with a special streamed performance.   WAAX will perform selections from their amazing debut Big Grief within Brisbane’s famous Tivoli in front of an intimate (and socially distanced) live audience.   Big Grief explores the very definition of the word grief in universal terms; it’s a mourning that as sentient beings in the modern world, with all its technological trappings, we should all be able to relate to.   As the band’s firebrand vocalist Maz DeVita states, “the whole album is about grief for so many things that I felt when we were writing the record. The way the world is at the moment, the environment, I talk about coal, I talk about problems in the past with my body image, and it’s almost like a big mourning. It’s definitely an outpouring of grief in every sense of the word.”   The show will be streamed live, and will not be available to view online following the event. Please note during the event you will not be able to pause, rewind or fast forward the stream.   “We are thrilled to be able to create this experience, we love our community so much. We want to still give something back to the rest of Australia since you’ve all supported us so much over the years. We’ll come back and visit as soon as we can, but before then please enjoy this live stream from the comfort and safety of your home.” - WAAX   Join the band for this one night only live streaming event on 29th of October 2020. Ocean Alley to premiere live studio film of third album ‘Lonely Diamond’ played in full

“Lonely Diamond feels like a musical moment, a landmark release for a band on the cusp of Australian music prestige” – Music Feeds

**** “a monster of a record that manages to inspire excitement at every one of its dizzying turns” – NME Australia

**** “one of Australia’s most accomplished and exciting bands on the scene”
– Rolling Stone Australia

7.5 “showcases Ocean Alley at what they do best, unadulterated psychedelic rock”
– The Line of Best Fit

Ocean Alley are proud to announce their upcoming film Lonely Diamond – Live In Studio, a live performance of their recent third album Lonely Diamond played in full. Presented in conjunction with the band’s community brand A Day For The Beaches, the film will premiere online at 8pm local time on Friday 25 September in Sydney, UK, New York City and Los Angeles, available for ticket-buyers to watch at any time globally for 48 hours. The band will join a live Q&A chat hosted on the video platform to coincide with the premiere in each time zone.

Lonely Diamond – Live In Studio tickets are available for $16.99 from oceanalley.com.au. $3 from each sale is being donated to Ocean Alley’s local community partners One Eighty and Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

Shot on 16mm film and digital by frequent collaborators The Sauce, Lonely Diamond – Live In Studio was recorded at Sydney’s Studios 301 and provides an intimate live setting for music-lovers to experience Ocean Alley’s latest album, immersing fans into their world with a look into the action and banter that goes on behind-the-scenes and during a live performance. With audio recorded by the band’s long-time producer Callum Howell, Ocean Alley’s renowned production and performance quality is at the forefront of the film – never losing the charming or dynamic essence for which they are so celebrated – reimagining how Lonely Diamond can be experienced in a new and socially-distanced way while providing the first opportunity for fans to connect with the album in a full band performance, despite the current pause on touring due to COVID-19. Adding a dimension of otherworldliness to the film, the album’s visual identity is integrated into the set’s design, using irregular shapes and contrasting gradients to lean into Lonely Diamond’s themes of exploration and escapism.

After 12 months of writing and recording, Lonely Diamond was released to critical acclaim in June and debuted at #1 on the ARIA Vinyl Chart, #2 on the Australian Albums Chart and #3 on the overall Albums Chart, surpassing more than 32 million streams to date. Featuring singles ‘Stained Glass‘, ‘Infinity‘, ‘Tombstone‘, ‘Hot Chicken‘ and ‘Way Down‘, it was awarded triple j’s coveted Feature Album and The Music’s Album of the Week, accompanied by 4 star reviews from the likes of Rolling Stone Australia and NME Australia, plus a 7.5 from The Line of Best Fit. The six-piece had been gearing up to play their biggest rooms to date ahead of its release, however all shows have been rescheduled until February-March 2021 with more than 25,000 tickets already sold.

Australia’s beloved psychedelic-surf-rockers Ocean Alley have spent the past decade creating a unique lane for themselves as a proudly independent band, their vision and sound guided solely by their instinct and passion. Despite sold out international tours and major festival appearances including Reading & Leeds (UK), Splendour In The Grass (AUS) and Sziget (HU) under their belt, plus more than 325 million catalogue streams, the inner-workings of the band haven’t changed much since their humble beginnings jamming in a Northern Beaches garage. They are still fiercely independent, constantly pushing their own boundaries and defying expectations of what their music can be.

A record number of people visited Moscow Music Week 2020 Moscow Music Week 6th annual showcase festival and conference took place in Moscow from 2nd to 5th September with over 100 artists distributed across 24 thematic showcases and over 5000 visitors — a record number for MMW, which is especially remarkable considering the pandemic year with all its cultural events cancellations. Online showcases with live streams from Budapest, from the Moscow events and the live stream of MMW x IMI 2020 educational program were watched 55K times, which not only significantly enlarged the audience and festival’s borders, but also offered an opportunity to partially «visit» the festival to people outside Moscow. Festival’s program presented a diverse multi genre line-up (MMW special feature often compared with American analogue — SXSW, which take place since 1987): from Caucasian peoples traditional music, contemporary fem-punk and new Russian wave to jazz, experimental improvisation and techno within day and night events. Among MMW musical program participants are Turkish band Lalalar, CENTR, Hadn Dadn, SOYUZ (Belarus), Bad Zu, Zaur Nagoev, Intourist,  Lucidvox, Fardi, USSSY, CEO Of Everything, Dima Midborn, Wooden Whales, Lutik and many more. No matter how niche each of the offered directions of the music scene was (each wrapped in one or the other showcases), Moscow Music Week managed to get a full-house — organizers report about clubs and conference space full of people. Eugeniy Gorbunov (Intourist and Glintshake bands participant): «MMW 2020 was very soulful. Like all that could happen considering all oddities of this year, the festival gained humble homey form and helped to take some kind of stock of the last several years, which very much changed Russian independent scene. It had a very soothing effect on me — it became obvious that all artists are very different, that there’s no one paradigm (like pervasive post-punk in 2014), at the same time everyone is on one common creative wave, nobody competes no one (at least at the moment) and everyone feel like a part of cool company and at the same time of a boundless chaos, where everything can happen. I see that together we create a new enabling environment for society consciousness evolution. Young musicians today are much more conscious and responsible than 10 years ago, and further it will get better». Participating in MMW 2020 for many artists became the first performance after quarantine and let not only perform at one of the main stages of the country and show themselves to music journalists, promoters, booking agencies and labels representatives, but also reconnect live communication with listeners. Nikita Rasskazov (V-A-C foundation showcase curator): «MMW 2020 became a restoring connection event not only between artists and listener, but also with «workmates». If one can maintain dialogue online, for the others it’s very important to communicate within reality, which in turn often leads to the birth of new ideas and creation of the music of the future». Moscow Music Week x IMI (Institute of the Musical Initiatives — main partner of MMW educational program) conference program gathered musical industry professionals, who discussed the most vital and pressing issues affecting Russian market players including music distribution, digital marketing, working with streaming services and much more, in a difficult year that has changed the course of the industry. Among the themes raised within conference by representatives of the Russian and foreign clubs and festivals, marketing agencies, streaming and record labels were such topics as the search for a balance between creative work and management; future of the festivals in the terms of new reality, what will happen if restrictions will continue for the next year and how the events economy will change; how the perception of the clubs changed and do they have the ability to secure visitors from COVID; whether the musical spaces lost their credibility and many more. Among lectors, moderators and open tables participants were: Pavel Kamakin — partner of 16 Tons company group and eponymous club art director, Daria Shulga — Afisha Picnic director, Ksenia Shapovalova — Melnitsa agency and Park Live festival marketing director, Gleb Lisichkin — ONErpm digital distribution international company marketing director. Tatiana Makarova (MMW x IMI 2020 conference director): «The main target of the festival and conference was to create a strong, independent musical community. And despite all twists and turns, already now we can say with confidence that we are on the way to reach it. There is a lot to be done, but the foundation for the industry in Russia to develop, improve and become independent has already been laid». Once again, the organizers of Moscow Music Week showed a cut of the young Russian scene, presented new names that will potentially be popular tomorrow to the visitors and proved that love for music can break all obstacles and overcome any restrictions. COSMIC GATE ANNOUNCE TWO-PART DIGITAL CONCERT SERIES TO TAKE PLACE THIS OCTOBER!

by the partae September 16, 2020
written by the partae

Stream Dates: October 3rd & October 17th
Ticket Link: cosmicgate.tixr.com

When its come to creatively streaming their way through lockdown, Cosmic Gate have known few bounds. From New York City’s rooftops to initiating Miami’s balcony raves, where there’s been a Cosmic will, there’s been a Cosmic way.

In October though, Nic & Bossi will go beyond the simply groundbreaking to take premium-livestreaming to its zenith. Long story short: if you can’t come to Cosmic Gate, Cosmic Gate are gonna come to you. And better yet, in the comfort of your own home! CG will perform two concerts from Miami’s The Temple House dream-factory – a place where the only real limitation is the artist’s imagination. Globally recognised and award winning for its 360-degree projection mapping, the venue will host the concerts in their digital environment, delivering shows the exact likes of which have never been seen before.

On Saturday October 3rd, Cosmic Gate will perform For Your Mind – a two-hour concert, backed  – or more accurately mapped – by retina wowing, purpose-created visuals. Featuring a wealth of new and exclusive CG-composed music, each track will be accompanied by its own thematic take-you-there graphics. Music featured will include new Cosmic Gate & Andrew Bayer collab ‘The Launch’, as well as the CG remixes of Andrew Rayel’s new single ‘Everything Everything’ and their exceptional take on Joe Smooth’s endlessly hope-filled ‘Promised Land’. Also playing their part will be recent CG releases ‘Universal Love’ & ‘Your Mind’, and the desk-hot latest & greatest from trance music’s highest-achievers. Two weeks later on Saturday October 17th Nic & Bossi will be back with their second concert The Classics (more details of which will follow). You can check out this amazing teaser video and catch a glimpse of what’s in store here!

Living in different cities and unable to meet during lockdown has been a surreal experience for two artists accustomed to spending 50 weeks a year together. The concerts will be the first time Nic & Bossi have spun together in six months, doubtless adding an extra expectation to the performance.

Nic says: “naturally we hold out hope that the current situation doesn’t rule out every event for the rest of 2020. Like many though, we don’t like the way it’s looking”. Bossi continues: “we live to play for our fans and if we have to be creative to do that, that’s what we’re gonna do. So we’re doing two unique events that’ll allow us all to club ‘apart-but-together’ in the absolute mask-free safety, and with the added thrill that we’re going to be able to take you hundreds of ‘places’ we otherwise couldn’t!” Talking about the venue, Nic continues: “The Temple House is a place where – digitally – our wildest ‘wanna-play-there’ dreams come true. So for two Saturdays in early autumn, push back your couch, zoom up the brightness (& volume!) and join us for some shows that’ll bring us together for an experience we’ll never forget!”

Tickets for Cosmic Gate In Concert are $9.99 USD for each show or $15.99 USD for both events, with limited early bird tickets (at a 20% discount rate) available now through cosmicgate.tixr.com . You can find regional streaming times for the show below, which will also be available to watch/re-watch video-on-demand-style two hours after their first broadcast.

Berlin 12.00am CET
New York 6.00pm EST
Los Angeles 3.00pm PST
Melbourne 8.00am AEST
Singapore 6.00am SGT

Tixr’s live chat will also be enabled, allowing you to talk with friends locally and internationally throughout the show. Limited virtual meet & greet tickets are also available, allowing you and other fans from around the world to video-chat to Nic & Bossi just prior to concert time. The site’s also carrying a limited edition merchandise line featuring a dedicated t-shirt, Cosmic Gate In Concert flag and CG’s most recent album, ’20 Years: Forward Ever Backward Never’.

Cosmologists: its time for us come together as one and make livestreaming special again! Cosmic Gate bring the party to your place October 3 and October 17. More details at cosmicgate.tixr.com

BIGSOUND 2020 has dropped the mic on its first (and hopefully last) ever 100% virtual program on October 21 and 22, bringing together a stacked first announcement of keynote presenters to lead a program to re-future a challenged industry with positivity, connection and reality.
Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Prophets Of Rage, the Nightwatchman) leads the first announcement with a presentation exploring his life as a musician and activist. BIGSOUND will also host a line up of special in-conversation sessions with the legendary Kev Carmody and ARIA-award winner Amy Shark, as well as a keynote presentation from global superstar Tones And I. Rhoda Roberts and Ziggy Ramo will discuss the Indigenous future of the music industry while American Grammy-nominee Mumu Fresh will discuss career, community and survival in 2020.
BIGSOUND will also welcome Australia’s hero of COVID, culinary crusader Nat’s What I Reckon, who will present an exclusive BIGSOUND cooking show. I OH YOU’s Johann Ponniah will zoom by for a keynote, while globally respected tour and production manager and founder of CrewCare Australia Howard Freeman (Big Day Out, INXS, AC/DC, Eminem, Neil Young, Prince, Rolling Stones) will host a poignant session exploring the hard realities of life on the road, the impacts it has on mental and physical health, and creating a culture of help-seeking.
“Join me at BIGSOUND to talk music, activism, and how the guitar can be a divining rod for truth and justice. The world is at a dangerous crossroads and it’s time to feed the poor, fight the power, and rock the f**k out.” – Tom Morello
—————————————————————————————

“Very few artists radiate and live their purpose the way that Tom Morello does, his power, conviction and guitar shredding sound is like no other”, said BIGSOUND Creative Director Janne Scott. “This keynote is a personal dream of mine and an absolute privilege for BIGSOUND to present, delivered at a time when we could all use a little Morello magic.”

With COVID-19 restricting travel, BIGSOUND 2020 will be the first event in its 19 -year history to go completely free and virtual, in recognition of the difficult times the industry is currently facing and the need more than ever to have a place to come together regardless of location or means. With over 2,000 already registered, the virtual space will enable BIGSOUND’s panel discussions, keynotes and seminars the ability to reach and connect with more people than ever before.
“BIGSOUND has been the meeting place of the music community for nearly two decades and the determination for this event to not only go ahead, but to thrive in a virtual environment is essential for our industry.” said QMusic CEO Angela Samut.
“BIGSOUND has been a leader for years in looking to future business models, mental health and a place of fairness and justice for First Nations peoples working in the music industry as well as giving tomorrow’s Australian icons a platform to learn and be discovered. Never have these things been more important. Never has BIGSOUND been more important.”
BIGSOUND’s second announcement and full program schedule will be unveiled at the end of September along with The BIGSOUND50, this year’s hottest Australian artists who will be exposed to the world and participate in a national and international networking program designed for the times.
BIGSOUND’s First Nations House in partnership with Spotify will also be a key feature of the full program, offering important discussion, learning and understanding, as well as showcasing some of our finest First Nations talent from around the country.
“BIGSOUND 2020 is the perfect opportunity for the music community to come together and take stock of where we find ourselves both nationally and globally after the last six tumultuous months” said Conference Programmer Tom Larkin.
“Featuring some of the most prolific Keynotes we have ever programmed, the conference itself will lead conversations around future facing concepts that are brave, nuanced and shine a light towards recovering a more sustainable industry.”

BIGSOUND 2020 MOVES TO FREE, VIRTUAL EVENT DOUBLING DOWN ON COMMUNITY, SURVIVAL AND RE-FUTURING

BIGSOUND moves to a free virtual event for 2020!

DOUBLING DOWN ON COMMUNITY, SURVIVAL AND RE-FUTURING
With ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and domestic border closures, BIGSOUND 2020 will now move to be a free virtual event, allowing and creating new opportunities for Australian artists and industry to connect with each other and the international music community from their own homes and workspaces.
Connecting digitally on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 October, BIGSOUND 2020 will focus on three pillars of community, survival, and re-futuring, building on its 18-year history of bringing music, art and business together in a new conference program custom-built for the challenges and awakenings that 2020 has delivered.
“BIGSOUND has always been about bringing our business and arts community together and while we were hopeful of being in our spiritual home in the Fortitude Valley live music precinct, 2020 has made other arrangements,” said QMusic CEO Angela Samut.

“It has never been more important for the Australian industry to come together to focus on survival and re-futuring with a program that offers a mainstream conference program, professional development and mental health activities as well as the introduction of The BIGSOUND 50.”
Despite the unfortunate suspension of live showcases, BIGSOUND Festival co-programmers Dom Miller and Ruby-Jean McCabe, alongside First Nations Programmer Alethea Beetson, will still select the best artist applications to spotlight the next crop of emerging Australian music talent to become The BIGSOUND50. The event will double down on its role in shining a global spotlight on the artists of tomorrow and sharing them with the wider music industry to further expand audiences and connect them with potential business relationships.
As well as significant coverage across BIGSOUND and its official online media and playlists, the artists will receive one-on-ones with industry mentors, online meetings with industry professionals, and opportunities to connect with relevant delegates both during and after BIGSOUND in a unique program to help assist their artist growth, career goals, and potential future pathways. The BIGSOUND50 artists will also get first priority application access for BIGSOUND 2021, giving special consideration for attendance and live performing at next year’s event as the industry moves towards a new normal.
The full BIGSOUND program will be released in late September, under the care of Creative Director Janne Scott, Conference Programmer Tom Larkin, and First Nations Producer and Programmer Alethea Beetson.
The innovative BIGSOUND 2020 virtual program of keynote addresses, online workshops, panels and discussions will explore the serious industrial needs of the business of music, bringing together key players to plot our immediate survival, while taking this unique opportunity in history to have the necessary discussions about re-futuring the building blocks on which we operate.
BIGSOUND will have big conversations, from the new commercial realities through to the mental and physical health of industry participants. From equity of revenue to equity of opportunity, from respect for business through to respect for the community on which it’s built, BIGSOUND will ask the questions and prompt the discussions that need to be had to build a strong industry that will walk us forward into the next decade.
BIGSOUND will again feature First Nations House in partnership with Spotify (this year virtually) providing a poignant and important program of domestic and international delegates discussing the future of the music industry, creating virtual performance opportunities and offering valuable connections to those across the music industry from a First Nations perspective.
“BIGSOUND 2019 saw the largest cohort of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists showcasing at BIGSOUND,” said First Nations programmer Alethea Beetson.

“With the move to a virtual platform, we have the potential to showcase First Nations artists throughout the whole year; have the long-term Indigenous led conversations required to dismantle and change the music industry; and continue the work of those who have gone before us in building the sovereign music sector.”

“Working with Spotify, we are able to give more space to First Nations artists from these lands, and also continue our collaborations with our First Nations relatives across the oceans – in particular Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Turtle Island (Canada).”
Delegates who purchased a ticket to the BIGSOUND physical event will receive a full refund with free digital registrations open from today at www.bigsound.org.au. The full BIGSOUND delegate portal will be open for registrants from the end of September for networking and exclusive content.
BIGSOUND thanks the ongoing support of our partners: Australia Council for the Arts, Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, Tourism and Events Queensland, triple j, Spotify, Oztix, APRA AMCOS and Levi’s®.
BIGSOUND 2020 won’t have a physical presence this year, but it will deliver on the promise it has made to the music community for 18 years. This was not the year anyone expected, but BIGSOUND will continue to deliver for artists, be the place of the big discussions for industry, and this year be front and centre in bringing the community together at a time that has never been more important.

Free virtual delegate passes are available now from BIGSOUND.org.au

MICRA RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE & VIDEO ‘UNDER MY SKIN’ + ANNOUNCE SHOWS FOR NSW

“It’s got depth, it’s got drive, it’s got some magic dust sprinkled on top”
– Richard Kingsmill on ‘Fuzz Captain’, triple j

“Shimmering swathes of synth and lush guitar tones bring to mind the psychedelic tendencies of fellow Aussies Tame Impala, whilst the hushed vocal of Kafedjiyska conjures a dreamily lucid air that is wholly entrancing” – The Line of Best Fit

“Gorgeous noise pop that isn’t afraid to bleed into the red,” – Clash Magazine

“Ariel Pink and Tame Impala thrown in for a mish-mash of psych- and dream-pop you’ll get lost in” – Pilerats

Micra, Sydney’s spellbinding dream-pop outfit, today release their exciting new single ‘Under My Skin’ via Liberation Records. Premiering via Clash Magazine as their Track of the Day, ‘Under My Skin’ comes with the announcement of upcoming shows in Sydney and Wollongong.

Their first release since supporting Lime Cordiale on the band’s recent national tour, ‘Under My Skin’ boasts diverse influences, marrying the underwater psych grooves of Unknown Mortal Orchestra with the dreamy vocals of Beach House. Weaving dark lyrics and melodies with looping synths and production techniques, ‘Under My Skin’ proves Micra are more than the sum of their parts as it explores the idea of “learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.”

“It’s the realisation that everything that you feel happens under the skin (and) the fixation of time passing, which I tend to focus on a little too much” explains the band’s singer Ivana Kafedjiyska. “All these discomforts and thoughts are intimate sensations under the skin. Sometimes you have to sit in a feeling and let go only by letting it in.”

The track arrives complete with a beguiling music video by Jessica Long and features serene imagery of the band surrounded by vast desert landscapes and the setting sun. As the clip unfurls, the psychedelic undertones of the track surface and what was once tranquil becomes obscured.

‘Under My Skin’ follows the release of previous singles ‘Chemical Freedom’ and ‘Fuzz Captain’. The dreamy ‘Fuzz Captain’ received adds to triple j unearthed and FBi Radio as well as profiling by tastemakers The Line of Best Fit and Clash Magazine.

Micra are a sonic experiment from Bulgarian born and raised singer/guitarist Ivana Kafedjiyska and Australian guitarist/producer Robbie Cain, who met by serendipitous fortune at an Unknown Mortal Orchestra show after the ticketing Gods coincidentally sat them next to each other. That chance meeting blossomed into a musical kinship which, after months of jamming in a friend’s Sydney basement, led to the formation of Micra. After wooing industry at last year’s BIGSOUND, Micra went on to perform alongside Tyler, The Creator and RÜFÜS DU SOL at Beyond The Valley as well as recently supporting Lime Cordiale on six sold out shows across Australia.

With much more music to come, 2020 is sure to be an exciting year for the duo.
