Today, Future Islands share details of a new album, a new song, and a special livestream concert. The Baltimore group will release As Long As You Are, their sixth studio record, on Friday 9 October via 4AD / Remote Control Records.
Check out new single ‘Thrill’ – the follow-up to recent single ‘For Sure‘ – and its video starring and created by Samuel T. Herring here.
As Long As You Are looks to the past as well as the future, confronting old ghosts and embracing a new hope. It is an album about trust, full of honesty, redemption and “letting go”, allowing old wounds to heal and bringing painful chapters to a close.
As Long As You Are also signals a new era for Future Islands. Drummer Mike Lowry officially joins as a fully-fledged member and songwriter bolstering the founding trio of William Cashion, Samuel T. Herring and Gerrit Welmers. Together, the four-piece took on official production duties for the first time, co-producing As Long As You Are with engineer Steve Wright at his Wrightway Studios in Baltimore. Their brand of new wave synth-pop full of bright melodies and heavenly choruses is as euphoric and uninhibitedly joyful as anything the band has done in their 14-year career.
On As Long As You Are release day, October 9, Future Islands will be exclusively live-streaming a very special show from their hometown of Baltimore on Friday 10 October at 8pm AEST. Their only show of 2020, this will be the only time this year to see the band on stage playing tracks off of the new album (as well as some classics). For further details, and to purchase tickets, head to Handsome Tours.
As Long As You Are will be available digitally, on CD, standard black vinyl, petrol blue vinyl (4AD and indie stores only), fluorescent orange vinyl (band store only) and cassette (4AD Store, band store and US indies only). To pre-order, head to futureislands.ffm.to/
IDLES have shared ‘Model Village’, the latest single from their forthcoming LP Ultra Mono – out Friday 25 September via Partisan Records/Liberator Music. ‘Model Village’ decries the often-dangerous small-town fishbowl mentality, while its jet-powered instrumentation leans heavily into the band’s love of hip-hop (Kenny Beats provided additional programming on the album). The song is accompanied by an animated music video directed by Michel Gondry (Daft Punk, Radiohead, The White Stripes) and Olivier Gondry, created in collaboration with WePresent, WeTransfer’s editorial platform.

As their first move for 2020, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have made another strong impact with the release of their new single, ‘Mr. Prism’. Bounding along with energy from the onset, ‘Mr. Prism’ is relentless in its approach – a fiery reminder of the type of band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have grown into over the last few years on the road.
Since the release of the band’s third studio album And Now For The Whatchamacallit, the Perth group spent the second half of 2019 on tour through the UK and Europe, before returning to Australia for a summer festival run. Taking advantage of loosening restrictions in WA, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are using the opportunity to get back to live performing, introducing their new chapter with a run of headline shows this September.
‘Mr. Prism’, full of chaotic builds and irresistible rhythms as it winds through its second half, is wild in its arrangement. The bulk of the songwriting took place at songwriter Jack McEwan’s home in WA, with drums being laid down at Perth’s Tone City Studios, before landing with Michael Jelinek and Brian Lucey. For McEwan, the song was born out of the feverish haze only illness and a crazy tour schedule can bring. “After our last tour of Europe I had a plethora of reasons to see a doctor. First, he thought I had tonsillitis, so prescribed me penicillin, which didn’t help at all. I did Falls Festival over New Year’s and barely got through – turns out I had pneumonia. I was pushing through on all sorts of meds until someone offered me the HMS Hunter.S alternative and I realised no matter how sick I’d ever be, I could never turn one down. Mr. Prism (my sickly fun-fuelled fiend of an alter-ego) was born.”
Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
2019 was a massive year for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets both at home in Australia and in the international market. A year of sold out shows across North America, UK, Australia and Europe, not to mention spots on lucrative festivals including Splendour in the Grass and Desert Daze, the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets was well received by thousands.
The release of And Now For The Whatchamacallit reaped praise from all corners with support from Triple J, BBC Radio 1, NPR and noted publications including Q, Classic Rock and DIY have further cemented Psychedelic Porn Crumpets as a long lasting musical presence. With over 7 million Spotify streams and over 120k artist profile followers, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets rounded out 2019 triumphantly.
PRAISE FOR PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS
“With jubilant tie-dye riffs and squiggly guitar lines around every corner, A Now For The Whatchamacallit is every bit the celebratory psych-rock album it strives to be.”
DIY Mag
“ANFtW is a continuation of the quality we’ve come to expect from them after a brilliant past 3 years of music. It adds some new playfulness to the psychedelic charm of the past albums and is a consistently fun experience to add to their discography.”
Sputnik Music
“PPC don’t so much as throw caution to the wind as they incinerate caution and launch the ashes from the chopper.” Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe
“Their music is completely unique and the people who follow them, do so purely upon the respect of their artistic value and incredible showmanship.”
Isolated Nation
“Hailing from the countryside outside of Perth where they have honed their craft in elongated jam sessions and even longer house parties, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets return as a tour de force of spacious musical expression.”

Gold Coast-based party starters Bootleg Rascal have just unleashed ‘Oh so Cool’ – another taste from their forthcoming staggered EP titled ‘Collaborations of Very Isolated Delinquents “19’ – produced by the band themselves, Ian Pritchett (Boo Seeka, Kim Churchill, Angus and Julia Stone), and Simon Dobson (Little May, STUPID BABY).
Continuing down the pathway of sonic experimentation, ‘Oh so Cool’ is a quintessential party track that takes cues from the likes of Beastie Boys, Run-D.M.C. and Gorillaz. The commanding cadences of front man Carlos Lara soar seamlessly above fuzz-laden guitars, rumbling bass and resounding drums, before transitioning into its compelling outro led by an infectious sing-a-long.
Due to the unprecedented and evolving situation around the global pandemic, the band and their team have decided to push back their East Coast headline tour dates. Rescheduled shows will be held across January and February 2021, pending there is no risk to the health and safety of the band, crew, venue staff and fans.
Since their mid-2013 inception, Bootleg Rascal have released a slew of singles, an EP and two albums, all warmly received by critics and fans around the world, with support from the likes of NME, The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Pilerats and Wonderland Magazine. Multiple tracks have been added to Spotify and Apple Music playlists, high rotation on triple j and they’ve performed on the station’s esteemed ‘Like a Version’ segment.
The band have continually traversed the globe playing multiple sold out headline shows in France, UK, Holland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and performed sold out shows in the USA. They’ve also regularly appeared on major Australian festivals including Falls Festival, The Big Pineapple Festival, Lost Paradise, Hills are Alive, Festival of the Sun and Party in the Paddock.

Delivered, Live kicks off its second episode of the return season with a line up with a punk edge and an indie heart. Kicking off the show is Melbourne indie singer songwriter Nat Vazer, followed by blues-punk legend Kim Salmon & The Surrealists, with punk 3 piece Cable Ties rounding out the show.
Delivered, Live made its debut in April this year as a response to COVID 19 forcing the world into lockdown. The show is made available to watch free on YouTube so as to be accessible to any who choose to watch it. However, for those that can afford it, tickets are available for purchase for a range of price points, starting from as little as $20 – less than you’d pay to see most of these acts in non-pandemic times.
The revenue from these tickets then goes back to the artists and the crew creating the show, plus a live music venue and crew member of each acts’ choice.
Bringing the laughs will be up and coming comedian Alex Ward, and our regular recap on ‘the week that was’ with Sami Shah.

The main part of the festival will be held in the usual format of showcases, which lets hosting the festival according to all actual norms for events. Also, this year both musical and educational programs will get an online part, where festival visitors would hear performances from Budapest, Minsk and various Russian cities within live-streams.
- «We’ve decided to make the festival despite all the difficulties and restrictions. It’s more than important to support local scene in this difficult year, identify the lessons and discuss industry’s perspectives. It’s sad that apparently this year we’ll be the only ones to run such event, but we’re very motivated by the fact, that at least this one will happen», — says Stepan Kazaryan, MMW founder and «Bol» festival cofounder.
First wave artists: Lalalar (TUR), Soyuz (BLR), Gnoomes, Bad Zu, FARDI, Lutic, USSSY, Archanga, Lucidvox, Zaur Nagoev, [Beat] him up, Donatello!, Autosport, Shark’s Tears, KnightKnights, Avramova!, Pozory, Rosemary Loves A Blackberry, Starost, Supruga, The OMY, Tyagotenie, JRPJEJ, Zorki Vo, The RIG, Tapenight, Klinika, Dead Head, Tvar’
Separately worth mentioning festival’s headliner — psychedelic music at the junction between rock and electronic with heavy influence of traditional motifs — Turkish band Lalalar, which will be one of the few foreign bands visiting Russia this pandemic year.
Participation in Moscow Music Week for the musicians is not only the opportunity to perform at one of the main stages of Moscow, but also a chance to get an attention from the promoters, music journalists, labels and booking agencies representatives. In 2019 festival team received over 500 musical part applications and more than 200 applications to the conference.
- Stepan Kazaryan: «MMW kick-started lots of young musicians who now get sold outs. MMW 2020 guests will be the first to hear musicians, who will become leading voices of the scene in a couple of years».
Conference program, also divided into offline and online parts, will gather various Russian speakers and foreign colleagues, who will participate within video calls. Over the years different music journalists, festival organizers and labels representatives took part in the conference program. MMW 2020 conference leitmotif are digital communications.
List of festival’s stages well-known among Muscovites includes Powerhouse, Chinese Pilot Jao Da, Aglomerat, RNDM, Vermel, Punk Fiction etc., which will be distributed into 4 geographic zones for the convenience of moving between MMW showcases.
There are 2 types of tickets available:
* Ultimate Pass — 1 500₽ and gives an access to all showcases, festival opening and closing events
* Delegate Pass — 2 500₽ and includes all showcases, festival opening and closing events and 2 conference days.
