Hailing from Sydney, Jordan F creates a distinct style of retro synth driven electronic music with a modern fidelity. While his sound could be easily likened to the soundtracks from Stranger Things, Drive or Blade Runner, his knack for retro flair without the limitations of genre create a unique sound that is instantly recognisable as him.   He released his debut album Slipstream in 2014, which racked up a very impressive 3.5 million streams on Spotify alone. This was followed up in quick succession with the release of his sophomore album Timelines in 2016 on NRW Records, which again impressed the scene with a whopping 4 million plus online Spotify streams.    2017 saw his music featured in the Netflix psychological thriller 'Death Note', while also releasing a collaboration EP with Sydney duo Vast Hill. In the wake of 2018 he released his third full length album Oblivion - an adventure into spacey, ominous sounds and Lovecraftian horror. Returning today with a brand new single, Jordan is over the moon to present ‘Without You’ (feat Gryff) out via GD FRNDS. The tune follows on with vibe we’ve best come to know from Jordan F - splashy drums, big verbed out snare hits, beautiful arps and those lovely pad like synths.  Taken from his upcoming fourth record 'Memory Collision' , Without You sees Jordan team up with QLD swooner Gryff, who delivers a retro style of vocal delivery that is reminiscent of a blue light disco in the summer of 1988. A track filled with uplifting scenes that give inspiration of being confident with ones self. Jordan F describes how the track came about; "Without You (feat. Gryff) was one of the first tracks I wrote for the new album. I wanted the track to complement a scene to an 80’s heartbreak movie that existed only in my head. It’s about letting go and just being happy and confident by yourself. I approached Gryff with a finished instrumental and he came back with all the lyrics and recordings. We were pretty much done after one take. His Phil Colins and David Bowie inspired vocals really transformed the track into an upbeat state of euphoria." - Jordan F   JORDAN F EUROPEAN TOUR DATES Saturday 23 May | Debaser, Stockholm Friday 29 May | Baderhaus, Berlin Saturday 30 May | Golden Krone, Damstadt Saturday 06 Jun | Underbelly Hoxton, London   'Without You feat. What's been happening recently? We’ve been working on new tracks for our live show, had a small tour in germany and recorded a nice live-video which will be out soon. You've recently collaborated with Cristian Vogel to create COEXIST EP, how did this partnership come about? The festival “fm riese” in wattens (tyrol/austria) invited us (elektro guzzi) to choose a musician that inspired us in creating our music to collaborate for a concert and cristian vogel came to mind as he was a big influence when we started the band. Please describe how you went about working together? We basically just met in our studio in vienna, set up our gear, pushed record and started playing. since improvisation is a big part of our musical practice it developed very naturally. Actually one of the tracks on the ep (plenkel) is taken from the very first jam we recorded.  What influenced the sound and songwriting for the EP? We realized that we could create very similar sounds with both the acoustic instruments of elektro guzzi and the electronics of cristian vogel and that they interacted in very interesting ways.  How did the songwriting take place? We took the parts of our improvisations that already had a “song" structure and refined them in the mixing process. Where and when did you record/produce? How did this take place? We recorded and mixed the tracks in our studio in vienna, cristian did the mastering in his studio in copenhagen. there was a period of almost five year in between recording and finishing the tracks though, because we were all doing loads of other stuff in between. But we are all very happy we got around to mixing the material and get it released after all. What programs/instruments did you use? Cristian uses a software called “kyma” and elektro guzzi use drums, bass and guitar with a lot of effect pedals. recording/arranging/mixing was done in ableton live. What do you have planned for this EP? For us it was important to present this collaboration to a bigger audience since only the few people at the concert heard the music yet. maybe it will be also bring an opportunity to perform live together again. What did you find most challenging and rewarding during the creation of COEXIST EP? The most challenging part of creating this EP was to choose the right parts from a lot of material and to arrange and mix it. The most reward part in the collaboration was playing together an having fun in the studio. Please tell us about any future collaborations: We have two interesting collaborations coming up: one is our composition “inner scope” with 16-piece a string orchestra. the piece had it’s premier last year and we will recorded it this summer and bring it to the stage again in autumn 2020 and spring 2021. Secondly we will perform with the piano player Ingrid Schmoliner at “Musikprotokoll” festival in Graz/Austria in October. Any shows coming up? If so, when and where? We have a few trio shows coming up in spring but are not sure at the moment if they can go ahead because of the corona virus. in summer we hope to be back on the road for festivals across europe. What’s been happening recently?
We’ve been working on new tracks for our live show, had a small tour in germany and recorded a nice live-video which will be out soon.

You’ve recently collaborated with Cristian Vogel to create COEXIST EP, how did this partnership come about?

The festival “fm riese” in wattens (tyrol/austria) invited us (elektro guzzi) to choose a musician that inspired us in creating our music to collaborate for a concert and cristian vogel came to mind as he was a big influence when we started the band.

Please describe how you went about working together?
We basically just met in our studio in vienna, set up our gear, pushed record and started playing. since improvisation is a big part of our musical practice it developed very naturally. Actually one of the tracks on the ep (plenkel) is taken from the very first jam we recorded.

What influenced the sound and songwriting for the EP?

The Killers returning to Australia in November 2020 on their ‘Imploding The Mirage Tour’ | Brand new single ‘Caution’ released today

by the partae March 13, 2020
written by the partae
  • The Killers return to Australia in November 2020 to perform for audiences across Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne on their Imploding The Mirage Tour
  • The band today release ‘Caution’ the first single from the upcoming album  Imploding The Mirage (out Friday 29 May)
  • The Killers are exceptionally well-loved Down Under, amassing more than 263 million streams and selling almost one million albums (and counting!) in Australia alone.
  • General Public tickets on sale Monday 23 March
Frontier Touring are thrilled to welcome The Killers back to Australia for four massive headline shows this November. This will be The Killers’ first time back on our shores since their 2018 Australasian tour which included ten completely sold-out arena shows.

The Australian leg of the Imploding The Mirage Tour kicks off at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 11 November, before visiting Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Saturday 14 November, Perth’s RAC Arena on Wednesday 18 November, and wrapping up with the band’s first Melbourne stadium show at AAMI Park on Saturday 21 November.

The Killers will tour our shores as part of the Imploding The Mirage 2020 tour, playing headline shows and festivals across the globe in celebration of their sixth studio album Imploding The Mirage (out Friday 29 May through Island Records/Universal Music Australia).

Today’s tour news coincides with the release of lead single ‘Caution’, the world’s first taste of Imploding The Mirage. The track is the band’s first new material since the January 2019 release of stand-alone single ‘Land Of The Free’. The official ‘Caution’ video will be released next week.

Imploding The Mirage was self-produced by the band in partnership with musical engineer Shawn Everett (The War On Drugs, Kacey Musgraves, Beck) and Foxygen multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Rado. The album as a whole is heavily influenced by the likes of Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen and New Order and promises something of a return to the Heartland Rock sounds of much-loved albums like Sam’s Town and Battle Born. The list of featured artists includes Lindsey Buckingham, kd lang, Weyes Blood, Adam Granduciel (War On Drugs), Blake Mills, and Lucius.

‘The Killers are, whether you like their music or not, the pinnacle of live music performances and should be seen for both the spectacle and showmanship of the band.’ – The Advertiser
The Killers first burst onto the scene in 2004, topping Australian charts and going double platinum with debut album Hot Fuss. Featuring hit singles ‘Mr. Brightside’ and ‘Somebody Told Me’, the album received instant popularity and widespread international success. Since then, the band have sold over twenty-five million albums worldwide, and headlined all of the world’s top festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury and received countless accolades including multiple Grammy nominations, American Music Award nominations, MTV Video Music Awards and NME Awards.

‘Brandon Flowers and co – with a little help from the Pet Shop Boys, Johnny Marr and the pyrotechnics department – provide one of those special Glastonbury Moments’ – ★★★★ The Guardian

The band’s most recent album Wonderful Wonderful (2017) peaked at #1 on both the Billboard and ARIA album charts and has amassed more than 342m+ combined streams globally to date. NME have since cited Wonderful Wonderful as the album where The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers “bares himself more than ever before” as a songwriter and further cementing this as the band’s “best album since 2006’s ‘Sam’s Town’.

On the very same day that Wonderful Wonderful hit #1 on the ARIA Album Chart, the band took to the stage at the hallowed Melbourne Cricket Ground for the 2017 AFL Grand Final and absolutely killed their set:

‘The Killers’ set has already started to be considered as one of the greatest AFL performances in recent years.’ – Tone Deaf

‘The Killers have killed it with the crowd at the AFL Grand Final as they kicked off pre-game festivities in front of a packed MCG with a bite-size rock festival’ – Herald Sun

The Killers are exceptionally well-loved down under, amassing more than 263 million streams and selling almost one million albums (and counting!) in Australia alone. With all ten shows on the band’s 2018 tour completely selling out, secure tickets now to avoid disappointment. General public tickets on sale on Monday 23 March via frontiertouring.com/thekillers

DMA’S Release Orbital Remix of ‘Life Is A Game Of Changing’

by the partae March 13, 2020
written by the partae

Seminal dance-duo Orbital have taken DMA’S beautifully dark and euphoric track ‘Life Is A Game Of Changing’ and further elevated it into another stratosphere with the addition of dramatic keyboards and emphatic drum programming. Coming in at just over five minutes of electronic bliss, Orbital’s rework isolates Tommy O’Dell’s iconic vocals, giving them space to sit on top the wonderfully, messy beat. The result is an intricate, yet bold journey of sonic exploration that is guaranteed to be dropping on dancefloors to the pure glee of crowds all over the world.
“It was great fun remixing DMA’S – ‘Life is a Game of Changing’. It was really nice to have such a great a vocal to work with. We don’t take on a lot of remixes, but with this one we felt we could really add our Orbital DNA to DMA’S! We are really looking forward to playing it out in our DJ sets this year.” – P+P Orbital
DMA’S recently played to a sold-out crowd at London’s Brixton Academy (5,000 cap) and sold 8,000 tickets in a matter of hours to their Castlefield Bowl in Manchester in July. In celebration of this huge feat, the band launched a competition for fans who pre-order the album the chance to be flown to Manchester to witness the monumental show, full details here.

The band will then embark on a massive UK album tour celebrating their highly anticipated forthcoming album THE GLOW (out Friday 24 April through I Oh You) – which will see them play their biggest London headline show to date, before heading home to play Splendour In The Grass in July.

MELBOURNE JOINS ELEVEN CITIES WORLDWIDE TO PRESENT WORLD-FIRST VIRTUAL SCULPTURES CREATED BY NEW YORK ARTIST KAWS   Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria will join 11 iconic international sites, including The Louvre Pyramid in Paris, Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, Brooklyn Museum in New York, and Tokyo’s Shibuya Crossing, to unveil an augmented reality (AR) sculpture created by celebrated contemporary New York artist KAWS, from 13 to 27 March 2020.   EXPANDED HOLIDAY, a global art experience presenting monumental KAWS sculptures in 12 international locations, is produced in collaboration with Acute Art and KAWS. Public sculptures will be located in Doha (MIA Park - Museum of Islamic Art), Qatar; Hong Kong, Statue Square; London, Millennium Bridge; Melbourne, National Gallery of Victoria; New York, Brooklyn Museum; New York, Times Square;  Paris, The Louvre Pyramid; Sao Paulo, Ibirapuera Park; Seoul, Dongdaemun Design Plaza; Taipei, National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall; Tanzania, Serengeti National Park; and Tokyo, Shibuya Crossing. As part of this project, the NGV will provide access to KAWS’s monumental 10-metre long virtual sculpture in the NGV Garden. Depicting KAWS’s popular character, COMPANION, the AR sculpture will act as the starting point for the discovery of the range of KAWS’s works in his survey exhibition at the NGV. EXPANDED HOLIDAY will demonstrate the enormous potential of AR technology, which provides virtual perspectives on real-world environments, and conveys KAWS’s mischievous humour through the juxtaposition of physical and virtual worlds. These virtual sculptures will be accessible via the Acute Art app and can be experienced in conjunction with the NGV’s exclusive exhibition KAWS: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness, a comprehensive survey of 25 years of KAWS’s oeuvre and his largest solo survey to date. Full of humour, hope and humanity, the exhibition features more than 100 works including iconic paintings reappropriating pop-culture figures to more recent largescale, layered works, and an impressive collection of KAWS’s celebrated sculptural figures. “It’s incredibly inspiring to be harnessing the potential of AR to bring my work to life in a virtual context,” said KAWS. “Creating public art using new technology opens up so many exciting possibilities where people can respond, experience and feel in a new way.” “Melbourne and the NGV are joining some of the world’s most extraordinary locations in teaming up with KAWS and Acute Art to provide new and innovative ways of experiencing art that push the boundaries of what people consider an art experience” said Tony Ellwood AM, Director, National Gallery of Victoria. About KAWS KAWS engages audiences beyond the museums and galleries in which he regularly exhibits. His prolific body of work straddles the worlds of art and design to include paintings, murals, graphic and product design, street art, and large-scale sculptures. Over the last two decades KAWS has built a successful career with work that consistently shows his formal agility as an artist, as well as his underlying wit, irreverence, and affection for our times. His refined graphic language revitalises figuration with both big, bold gestures and playful intricacies. KAWS often appropriates and draws inspiration from pop culture animations, forming a unique artistic vocabulary across mediums. Admired for his larger-than-life sculptures and hardedge paintings that emphasize line and colour, KAWS’s cast of hybrid cartoon characters are the strongest examples of his exploration of humanity. As seen in his collaborations with global brands, KAWS’s imagery possesses a sophisticated humour and reveals a thoughtful interplay with consumer products. With their broad appeal, KAWS’s artworks are highly sought-after by collectors inside and outside of the art world, establishing him as a uniquely prominent artist and influence in today’s culture. KAWS has exhibited extensively in renowned institutions including solo exhibitions at — The National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia (2019); Fire Station, Qatar Museums, Doha, Qatar (2019); Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Michigan (2019); Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis, Missouri (2017); Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas (2016), which travelled to the Yuz Museum, Shanghai, China (2017); Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Longside Gallery, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom (2016); Brooklyn Museum, New York (2015); Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, Málaga, Spain (2014); Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Overland Park, Kansas (2013); Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia (2013); High Art Museum, Atlanta, Georgia (2011); and Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, Connecticut (2011). He will be the subject of a major survey exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum in the spring of 2021.   About KAWS: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness This exhibition is the largest survey to date of internationally celebrated contemporary artist KAWS and is exclusive to the NGV. Across more than 100 works including paintings and sculptural figures, KAWS engages with universal feelings of isolation and loneliness in response to the turbulent world we live in today. His larger-than-life sculptures are playful, toy-like figures, however at closer look, they reveal a fragility and darkness in the vulnerable poses of the characters. At the entrance to the exhibition, visitors can also experience the newly commissioned GONE 2019, which is currently KAWS’s largest bronze sculpture. Accompanying this exhibition is KAWS: PLAYTIME, a free kids’ exhibition filled with sensory rich activities inviting children to interact with KAWS’s iconic character BFF.     About Acute Art  Providing access to cutting-edge technologies, Acute Art is a production house fostering close working relationships with the world’s leading artists, including Marina Abramović, Olafur Eliasson, Cao Fei, Antony Gormley, Jeff Koons, and Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg.

A.Swayze & the Ghosts have unleashed ‘Mess of Me’, a rollicking punk anthem that’s as fun and bold as their theatrical live shows. The track received its world premiere by Matt Wilkinson on Beats 1 and is accompanied by a groundhog-day inspired video, directed by Nick Green. In further exciting news, A.Swayze & the Ghosts will embark on their first North American tour across April-May, including Shaky Knees festival as well as headline shows across the East & West Coast. Following the US, the band have announced a UK/EU run of shows, returning home in May for a three-night residency at the Old Bar (Melb), a three-night residency at The Grand Poobah (Hobart) and Big Pineapple (QLD).  Parallel to the sass and irresistible swagger of the track is a deep dive into the attitudes and habits we develop from childhood. Described in the words of frontman Andrew Swayze: “This song discusses inheritance. Not the conventional heirloom, but the type of negative trait you may learn as a child voyeur of your surroundings. Hendrik brought the song to us with the chorus "you're always trying to make a mess of me". Since I don't have any saboteur but myself, I changed his lyrics and wrote the rest around the new chorus.” The Hobart natives have amassed a fierce live following thanks to their raw, bold and at times, wild shows – heightened by the notably charismatic and enigmatic lead singer, Andrew Swayze.  Over the last 18 months A.Swayze & the Ghosts have performed at Falls Festival, Splendour in the Grass, The Great Escape, BIGSOUND (in many ‘best of’ lists across STACK, triple j, Double J, The Music), A Festival Called Panama and Boogie Festival. As well as shows alongside Shame, Total Control, Nude Party, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, West Thebarton, Jet, The Vines, Batpiss & The Stems to name a few. The Under the Southern Stars spectacular Rock Carnival Festival Series has been postponed. UTSS features +LIVE+, BUSH and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS who were set to play together for the first time in Australia this April. However, with the current global health crisis gripping the world, UTSS will need to move its scheduled dates to early 2021. Under The Southern Stars promoter, Andrew McManus has issued the following statement. Producing Under The Southern Stars music festivals each summer is a privilege and our fans and patrons have become part of the family.  In light of the current global health crisis, we feel that it is imperative to protect the Under The Southern Stars family and proceed in a clear and calm manner. We have been closely monitoring the situation as it develops and following directives from the Chief Medical Officer of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).  With the increase of travel bans and lock downs, in an effort to stop transmission of the virus, and with the safety of our patrons, artists, staff and crew in mind we have no other alternative than to postpone our April 2020 festival tour dates. We’ve been in consultation with all UTSS2020 artists in regard to their touring schedules and we plan to announce revised festival dates for Under The Southern Stars next week.  It is expected that our festival will be postponed until February/March 2021. Stag & Dagger – Scotland’s most celebrated multi-venue arts festival – is expanding to include Edinburgh this Spring for the very first time with one of its most eclectic line-ups to date. Over the years Stag & Dagger Glasgow have hosted countless huge names from across the musical spectrum, from Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, Twilight Sad, Frightened Rabbit, Royal Blood and Catfish and the Bottlemen to Mac DeMarco, DMAs, Glass Animals and Jungle. Now, as the festival approaches its inaugural edition in Scotland’s iconic capital, the brand-new wave of artist announcements has already confirmed Stag & Dagger Edinburgh as an unparalleled gem in the UK events calendar.

Paul Cardow, Director of PCL, said: “Over the last 12 years Stag & Dagger has proven to be where Scotland’s music fans discover the best new artists. Previous Stag & Dagger audiences  have had the opportunity to see artists who have gone on to have incredible careers including Lizzo and Royal Blood and we are extremely excited to bring this to the capital for the first of these annual events”

Promoters PCL are co-curating the Edinburgh instalment of Stag & Dagger alongside Sneaky Pete’s – No. 1 in The List magazine’s Hot 100 list.

Today they revealed that one of UK’s best young singer-songwriters Matt Maltese will be headlining, along with London’s premier new-wave punk pioneers Dream Wife, indie rock heroes The Orielles, alt-rock Irish 5-piece Just Mustard and two-time Mobo Award-winning drummer Moses Boyd.

Other new additions to the line-up include bold-post-punk trio PINS and Scottish new-wave innovators Man of Moon. The spring all-dayer will also host VLURE, who are known for their captivating, energy-busting live shows; indie fuzz-pop fourpiece, The K’s; pop-rockers Dancing On Tables; and gloomy-indie quartet Jack Brotherhood.

Supporting the best in local talent has always been at Stag & Dagger’s core, and in keeping with the ethos of authenticity, some of Scotland’s most exciting new acts will be joining the bill. Lo-fi pop purveyors from Perth Hip Priest, Dunbar indie five-piece Logan’s Close, Glasgow-based gothic singer-songwriter Jared Celosse, Edinburgh pop-rockers Go To Girl, and Dinosaur 94 who are known for putting on some of the wildest shows in the capital, will all be playing – plus loads more.

All the venues are within a 5-minute walk along Edinburgh’s world famous Cowgate district.

Nick Stewart, Manager of Sneaky Pete’s and co-curator of Stag & Dagger Edinburgh said: “As the capital Edinburgh is so overdue a multi-venue festival of this quality. We are so glad to be a part of it, and even more pleased that it’s set to be a really busy one with the history and experience of Stag & Dagger behind it. Edinburgh’s music scene is really on the rise right now, we have brilliant bands here, its possibly the most exciting time for the cites artistic scene I can remember.

“More touring artist are coming to the city than ever before, and Edinburgh audiences are buying more and more tickets for the shows. Audiences are really supporting the grassroots, coming to see bands on the way up, whether they are local or touring acts, and there’s a sense that something really special is happening now.
“We get told time and again by bands that Sneaky Pete’s was their favourite date on the tour, and although that is partly down to the venue,  it’s much more to do with the brilliant audiences we have now, who seem to be very excited  about  an event like this  coming to Edinburgh.”

Capacity is limited with almost half the tickets sold.

Tickets are on sale now via www.seetickets.com.

The halcyon hedonistic are set to return to Amnesia this summer when Pyramid kicks off its mouthwatering 2020 season on Sunday June 7th. The show-stopping opening party will be headlined by firm favourites and contemporary tastemakers Ricardo Villalobos, Four Tet, Floating Points, Charlotte de Witte, Marcel Dettmann, Cuartero, Luca Donzelli and Bec. Pyramid, then, is all set to redefine Sunday nights at Amnesia all over again this summer.  Last year, Amnesia celebrated the 20th anniversary of its residents and Ricardo Villalobos, Paco Osuna and Mar-T and enjoyed great collabs with other brands and labels like Epizode, Diynamic, Mdrnty Sunwave Fest, plus there were two incredible sold-out parties at Cova Santa together with Who Cares. This season, Pyramid Ibiza is ready to take you on a journey to another dimension, where you will find yourself dancing to the best techno music in the depths of the forest. An atmosphere that is difficult to explain, an energy that must be experienced to be understood. Also this season, Pyramid Ibiza celebrates its third consecutive year at the world famous club having quickly become a real favourite with those who love serious underground vibes. From Sunday June 7th to September 27th, the party will position itself as one where all that matters is music, the party, the people and dancing until the early hours.  Entering the awe-inspiring Amnesia will be like travelling to another dimension this summer as Pyramid’s unique production and decor has been thought through to the last detail: each event brims with creativity and organic materials, the latest technology, a very special 3D lighting setup and lush green tones that immerse you in wild forests and Asian pyramids. For the opening party, the world famous Terraza will be headlined by the one and only icon and Amnesia favourite Ricardo Villalobos, who brings his minimal techno excellence next to the always innovative electronic master and Text label boss Four Tet. For a mix of all forms of house, techno and everything in between, Melodies International boss and NTS Radio mainstay Floating Points is the main man. On top of that, one of Spain's biggest house sensations, DJ Award winner and Hot Creations and Moon Harbour associate Cuartero also brings the slick grooves that have made him such a favourite.  Into the Techno Room and Belgium's leading lady Charlotte de Witte brings the darkness, Berghain's long time resident Marcel Dettmann brings plenty of varied techno sounds and Moon Harbour and Origins Rcds associate Luca Donzelli also line up.  This summer, Pyramid invites you to dance, share, feel and live the type of party that takes you into another dimension, and it all kicks off in style on Sunday June 7th. #TravelToPyramid #WeArePyramid TERRAZA RICARDO VILLALOBOS FOUR TET FLOATING POINTS CUARTERO TECHNO ROOM CHARLOTTE DE WITTE MARCEL DETTMAN LUCA DONZELLI BEC

Longstanding California punk band Lagwagon have today released their ninth studio album Railer on Fat Wreck Chords.  Lagwagon have announced a headlining tour of Australia and New Zealand to promote their new album Railer. Tour dates below. Unlike the last few Lagwagon albums, RAILER was written in an incredibly condensed period of time, in an attempt to capture the spirit of the band’s early days. And it worked. While songs like “Stealing Light,” “Dangerous Animal” and “Dark Matter” bristle with a raw, ragged and pure energy that’s unusual for any band to have after almost 30 years of existence, these tracks also directly hearken back to the band’s early days. “There’s only so much one person or a group of people can do before they start to develop characteristics that become common to them,” says Cape in typically philosophical fashion, “and I think you have to be comfortable with that. And I am. I like my band and what we’ve done and I’m okay with the fact that we have our strengths and we have our limitations. I know what it is that we do well and if we stay true to that, there’s something that comes out of that that is truly original, because you’re being true to who you really are.” At the same time RAILER, produced by Cameron Webb (Alkaline Trio, Motörhead), accurately and honestly reflects who Lagwagon are in 2019, both lyrically and musically. While it sounds like these songs could have been written by a band 20 years younger, RAILER, as a collection, presents itself as youthful but jaded, frantic but exhausted, visceral yet cerebral.  The idea of struggling to get by alongside an overwhelming sense of existential chaos and angst is a common thread throughout RAILER, in the bouncy desperation of “Jini,” the Bertrand Russell-inspired “The Suffering,” the breakneck despair of “Parable” and even in the carefree nostalgia of “Bubble” and its unflinching celebration of the band’s early days of “beer for pay” and the “roach-ridden pads” they used to crash at. Life has moved on in the three decades since Lagwagon started, but it’s not something the band – guitarists Chris Rest and Chris Flippin, drummer Dave Raunand bassist Joe Raposo – have entirely left behind either.   Additionally, Cape doesn’t necessarily expect people to extract his specific philosophies from each of these songs, but they’re certainly present for the listener to seek out if they want to. At the same time, just as with Lagwagon’s earliest songs, RAILER’s songs are there to be listened to and enjoyed, to take you back to simpler times. It’s no coincidence, then, that RAILER ends with a frantic punk rock cover of Journey’s “Faithfully." Back in their earlier days, Lagwagon’s albums often used to include cover songs, but the band hasn’t recorded one for a long time, until now. And, with this record, Lagwagon has come full-circle and rediscovered the purest version of who they’ve always been as a band. Not that that feeling was ever really lost in the first place, of course. “I wouldn’t say ‘lost’,” confirms Cape, “but you evolve. Evolution is a journey within yourself. You go on this journey and it takes you wherever it takes you, there are multiple people along the way that you meet who have different ideas than you and as you grow, you get into different things along the way. I don’t know if you ever completely lose the sense of where you came from, but you definitely evolve away from it over time. But the thing is, it’s always there.” LAGWAGON AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND TOUR 2020 Friday 13th March - Metro Theatre, Sydney Saturday 14th March – Triffid, Brisbane Sunday 15th March - 170 Russell, Melbourne Wednesday 18th March – UniBar, Adelaide Thursday 19th March – Capitol, Perth Saturday 21st March – Galatos, Auckland Sunday 22nd March - San Fran, Wellington Tickets on sale now.  For more info visit HERE.

I know what it is that we do well and if we stay true to that, there’s something that comes out of that that is truly original, because you’re being true to who you really are.”

At the same time RAILER, produced by Cameron Webb (Alkaline Trio, Motörhead), accurately and honestly reflects who Lagwagon are in 2019, both lyrically and musically.

It’s no coincidence, then, that RAILER ends with a frantic punk rock cover of Journey’s “Faithfully.” Back in their earlier days, Lagwagon’s albums often used to include cover songs, but the band hasn’t recorded one for a long time, until now.

But the thing is, it’s always there.”

Open-air French techno gathering Family Piknik completes its full line up for Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of July in Montpellier, France. Playing across three stages, including one secret stage, will be the likes of Charlotte De Witte, Dixon, Artbat, Erol Alkan, Adam Beyer, Mind Against b2b Recondite, Popof b2b Oxia, Fisher, Worakls Orchestra and Monolink both live, Riva Starr, Detlef, Rex Axes live and many more.

The first phase of tickets are already sold out for this iconic festival. The ninth edition is another open-air extravaganza with special lighting, world class sounds systems and all sorts of extra food, drink and entertainment to make this the ultimate techno-fest. The big news is that all of the stages will be open from noon to midnight meaning that the usual Sunday pleasures turns into a full weekend extravaganza this year.

Created as a totally unique concept in France, open to all generations, Family Piknik has managed to be the most friendly open-air event around electronic music, gathering festival ravers from more than 30 countries. People can bring their own pique-nique to enjoy the green park of Grammont and chill in between two dance steps in front of the most talented international artists. Ecology will be one of the main focus points of 2020, with a no-plastic policy to be applied for the first time, though innovative actions yet to be announced.

Say the festival owner Tom Pooks, “2020 will be a serious transition for us as it will be the first time we are open on two full days, so it’s never been more exciting for us. Last year, we had the honour of welcoming many living legends, many from the first leading generation pioneering electronic music, from Sasha to Carl Cox through Sven Väth, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Josh Wink… So for this year, we’ve decided to open our stages mostly to the new generation, like Charlotte de Witte, Artbat, Fisher going through a bunch of other new talents combined with more established names (Adam Beyer, Dixon, Erol Alkan, Riva Starr..) and exclusive performances like this never seen B2B between Mind Against & Recondite. As always, our line-up tends to represent the one and only big electronic family, from micro-house to peak time techno through all these house sub-genres. Our challenge is to be a friendly gathering for all kind of electronic communities, sharing the same love and passion for music under the trees, during a whole week-end of pure madness in the sunny south of France.”

On Saturday, Stage 1 is a fully 100% live show showcase, while Stage 2 is all about  tech and jacking house and the third and final secret stage is where to hear ethno, deep and micro house. Sunday, day two, sees Stage 1 offer up the best techno in the world, Stage 2 goes deeper with more melodic and progressive house, and the secret stage deals in ethno, deep and hybrid house.

Saturday featuresFisher, Popof B2B Oxia, Dennis Cruz, Super Flu, Riva Starr, Detlef, Cioz B2B Sam Shure, Quenum, Pontias B2B Theus Mago, Time, Ki Yera, Mood Gorning B2B Albanø andWorakls Orchestra (Live), Monolink (Live), Giorgia Angiuli (Live), Wehbba (Live Station), Red Axes (Live), Gheist (Live Hybrid), Ruede Hagelstein (Live) and The Dualz (Live).

Sunday is all about the likes of Charlotte De Witte, Adam Beyer, Mind Against B2B Recondite, Dixon, Artbat, Adana Twins, Mathame, Denis Horvart, Erol Alkan, Tom Pooks B2B Joy Kitikonti, Sébastien Léger, Monkey Safari, Mandana, Abstraal, Frankyeffe, Timmo and Blanc.

For the 3rd year in a row, Family Piknik will tease its 2020 main event with several tour dates across France between March and June (Lyon, Toulouse, Paris…), including its famous Boarding to Family Piknik event taking place in Montpellier airport on June 6th. This event is also not to miss because you can dance next to the planes, with artists like Sven Väth on board.
The scene is now set for the most famous festival in France to grow, expand and improve once more in 2020 as it raises the bar for music lovers once more.
Early Bird Tickets are on sale till March 26th, from 45€ (1 day) to 70€ (2 days). http://www.familypiknikfestival.com
