Gardens of God’s 10-track debut

by the partae February 25, 2021
written by the partae
Gardens of God’s 10-track debut is a melodic, life-affirming journal of the Lithuanian DJ/producer’s spiritual rebirth into fresh creativity – honest, contemplative, yet with all the technical skill and cinematic sensibility you would expect from a classically-trained musician with a successful history writing film soundtracks.

With well received remixes and EPs on Maceo Plex’s Ellum imprint, the artist (aka Mindaugas Lapinskis) has been rising fast on the electronic scene, with solid support from names such as Adam Beyer, Sam Paganini, Stephan Bodzin, Adriatique, B.Traits and Pete Tong. He founded his own label SODAI so he could express himself with no compromises.

‘At one point I felt lost, the world spinning so fast I couldn’t catch it. So, I made a soundtrack for the movie I live in.’

The LP takes you from uplifting piano and slow drum meditations like ‘All About NOW’ ft APARDE’s blissful vocals and BIRDS, with its dripping water and cool lush ferns, to cinematic cuts peppered with off-the-wall elements and a jazzy vibe in Point of ‘No Return’ and ‘River’. Several tracks are vocal-centred: ‘Stills’ is more of a song than a track, with VAARWELL’s warm vocals and a choral backing, while ‘Shade of Indecision’ showcases Myriah Turner speaking poetic lyrics.  Fans will welcome reworks of his double A side ‘RIVER’/’GHOST’, Sodai’s debut release, as the label’s promising beginnings come to fruition.

‘The album was started and never finished many times from fear of being misunderstood, but global and personal crises free me from doubt. Now here I am with all my melodies waiting to be heard.’

‘Soundtrack for the End’ is out on February 26th on SODAI.

ICONIC ROCK BAND THE OFFSPRING RELEASE FIRST NEW MUSIC IN ALMOST A DECADE

LET THE BAD TIMES ROLL

SET FOR RELEASE APRIL 16 ON CONCORD RECORDS FIRST SINGLE AVAILABLE NOW

One of the best-selling punk rock bands of all time, THE OFFSPRING have set a release date for their first new album in almost a decade. The band’s tenth studio album Let The Bad Times Roll will be available on Concord Records April 16, 2021.

PRE-ORDER LET THE BAD TIMES ROLL HERE

Legends and innovators of the Southern California punk rock scene, The Offspring have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide, won countless awards, and have toured consistently, playing more than 500 shows in the last decade alone.  Their music has had a lasting impact across film, television, and video games, but the band turned their focus to a new album release in 2021. The band is comprised of singer Dexter Holland, guitarist Noodles, drummer Pete Parada and new bassist Todd Morse.

The new music was written and recorded over the course of the last several years at various locations including the band’s Huntington Beach, California studio. The album is the band’s third time working in collaboration with legendary rock producer Bob Rock.

True to the irreverence at the core of punk rock music, the band and lyricist Dexter Holland took a view to today’s cultural moments and didn’t shy away from creating topical material in this album.  The title track, written in late 2019 and recorded in 2020, reflects the country’s ongoing challenges.  Holland said: “I feel like we’re in a unique period in history where instead of our world leaders saying ‘we’re doing our best’ it’s more like they’re saying ‘fuck it’ and its really scary.”

As guitarist Noodles said: “Folks are saying, if it’s all going to Hell, we might as well make the most out of it, or at least go out swinging. ‘Let The Bad Times Roll!’”

I am currently based in Melbourne Victoria!

I first got into music, as I took piano lessons in primary school! I continued that through to about grade 8, and then very silly me gave it up. I was also that kid that tried every instrument under the sun but I always reverted back to the piano, and as I graduated high school, I knew I wanted to do something within music but wasn’t sure exactly what, so I studied audio engineering this was a good balance for me to rediscover the love I had for music when I was younger and also the technical side behind recording/composing songs.

At the moment, I have just been having ample time in the studio every day working on new music and future releases for this year for my project with some really great songwriters and vocalists which has been really fun!

My covid experience was a really strange one as I’m sure it was for many people, I was in lockdown in Melbourne for about 6 months, I was going to go back to the Gold Coast [ where originally I am from ] but instead, I decided to stay here and just put my head down and work on music, which was a positive for me to be able to have ample time to just write and work every day and dedicate time to my passion and career. I also definitely learnt a lot in this time.

I wrote Hit You Up in the 2nd lockdown Melbourne had last year, I just wanted to write a fun dance record, at the time I was binge-watching a lot of the disclosure twitch streams that they were doing so I feel like the sound design and the initial old school kind of house vibe was unconsciously influenced by that!

I produced this song at home when I was in my apartment, and I wrote the initial idea with a vocalist from LA and then just produced it up over the last few months of last year.

The equipment I used for this record was mainly 3rd party vst’s that I have on my computer, one that I used in particular, was a synth called Tal Uno.

I use Ableton Live for my DAW of choice, and I also used my Korg Minilogue Synthesizer that I have and I was doing a sound design session randomly one day just having a play around and made these little laser percussive sounds which you will hear in the chorus of the song and they are just subtly being panned left to right, I then just processed them with a few different effects and had them sitting in the back of the mix for some fun little ear candy.

I first got into producing when I was living in Byron Bay, I started studying Audio Engineering and then discovered Ableton Live, and started to learn that program and loved it as your creativity on it is endless! I decided to move to Melbourne in 2018 as I felt there was a lot more opportunity for me here to grow and establish myself as an artist and be able to network, which I have met some amazing people and I love the sense of community we have here within the industry and haven’t looked back since!

I’ve been listening to heaps of music from an artist called Kito recently, a few others I have had on repeat are Lauren Sanderson, Whethan, Olah Bliss, and some old Hudson Mohawke and Machine Drum these are all such great artists that I really value their work.

Outside of the studio, I try to get out into nature as much as possible! It’s so easy to just spend relentless time in the studio, which is amazing but I try to remind myself to get out and spend some time reconnecting outside of the city!

This year is going to be a really busy one for me, I have quite a few releases planned and an ep that I am working towards for the end of the year, which I’m super excited about but we will have to wait and see!

My favorite food by far is Agedashi Tofu, my roommate introduced this to me about a year and a half ago and my life was changed and still, I’m obsessed with it hahaha, we are still in a bet to find the best Agedashi Tofu in Melbourne, so if anyone has any suggestions hit me up!

My favorite place to hangout would be going to some of Melbourne’s dope bars and drinking a cider in the afternoon with some friends after a week of being in the studio, that always hits the spot!

THE GLORIA RECORD (members of Mineral) Share previously unheard track ‘The Dead Brother’ Announce ‘Start Here’ vinyl reissue Out April 16th on Big Scary Monsters

by the partae February 24, 2021
written by the partae

Start Here, the brilliant debut album from The Gloria Record is back on vinyl at long last. Originally released in April 2002, the ten songs are bolstered with four bonus tracks including rarity ‘The Dead Brother’, a live version of ‘L’Anniversaire Triste’ and demos of ‘I Was Born In Omaha’ and ‘My Funeral Party’.

Start Here will be released on black double vinyl in a gatefold sleeve on April 16th. Big Scary Monsters ‘Family Friend Legend’ subscribers will receive an exclusive, limited edition orange/yellow variant along with a free 7″ from label mates Gender Roles. Sign up at https://bsm.rocks/fflegends by March 20th for that or pre-order the black vinyl via bsmrocks.com.

Talking about the record, singer / guitarist Chis Simpson said: “What I remember most about making ‘Start Here’ was the immersive experience. We made three separate trips to Lincoln, NE and set up camp at Presto! Recording, home of the infamous Mogis brothers, Mike and AJ. We had recorded ‘A Lull In Traffic’ with them the year prior when they were still operating Dead Space out of the basement of their shared house. We moved in and laid out sleeping bags in random corners and isolation booths of the studio and commenced to working around the clock for two weeks at a time on each trip. Mike was kind and trusting enough to leave us to it at night when he left after our evening trip to the bars on O Street, retiring to his one room apartment a few blocks away. He would come in in the mornings and try to make sense of what we had done in his absence the night before, and plan our days work ahead. We were all very excited about the record we were making and had grand ambitions of world domination in its wake. We had no label when we started and had to borrow money from friends to fund the recording.

“The making of ‘Start Here’ will always be tied in my mind to the events of September 11, 2001. We were on our last of three trips to Nebraska to finish the record when the events of that fateful day occurred. Because all air travel was shut down we were stranded in Nebraska for a spell. We had already scheduled mastering of the record in Omaha, so we made our way there for the ceremonious ritual of mastering/sequencing. I remember crying listening to the record all finished and together. Some of that was surely the catharsis of finishing something we had spent so much time on and that had felt so hard to make. Some of it was an acknowledgement that our world had changed irreversibly. We used to refer to the last two tracks on the record (‘Salvation Army’ and ‘Ambulance’) as the Twin Towers (this was prior to 09/11). To me, the sound of the string break before the ending of ‘Salvation Army’ and those lyrics sum it up: “the world’s attached to strings that pull us to the sun where we’ll burn for what we’ve done…” and then the incendiary outro is the sound of those buildings coming down. And ‘Ambulance’ is the denouement, but kind of a shell-shocked feeling. Looking back on it now it strikes me as a womblike work that tells the story of a Great Depression I was in the throes of at the time, and an isolation that felt like it couldn’t be broken or sustained. I turned 27 that month too and there was a sense that my youth and opportunity were slipping away, my own twin towers of innocence and idealism crumbling as well. During the subsequent touring I think we all started to come out of our shells a bit. I know I lightened up a lot. Regardless, I think it will always be a difficult and complex record for me to look back on.”

Bio
Following the demise of emo band Mineral in 1997, singer/guitarist Chris Simpson (Mineral/ Zookeeper/ Mountain Time) and bassist Jeremy Gomez reunited to form The Gloria Record. Taking an acoustic and more organic approach than their previous work, The Gloria Record (with the addition of guitarist Brian Hubbard, drummer Matt Hammon, later replaced by Brian Malone and Ben Houtman on the keys, organs and synthesisers) were unarguably the logical progression from Mineral’s emo throes – quieter, delicate and fervently impassioned. Heralded as a “band with big visions and bombastic sounds”, the quintet fostered their admiration for artists with similar arena sized visions ( Radiohead, REM, U2) to produce a sound that was reminiscent of their British contemporaries and American indies. In 1998 the band released their self-titled EP, followed by the intricate offering of 2000’s A Lull In Traffic and 2002’s full length effort Start Here, before disbanding after extensive US tours in 2004.

Based on the last name of two small-town Albertan brothers, Flaysher is a Canadian country duo with some grit in their blood harmonies. "Ride is proudly Canadian," they say - "we weren’t afraid to let our Canadian roots show and I think that’s another reason this song is so close to our hearts.  This song is a solo adventure. It’s a clear mind. It’s a soothing breeze. It’s a breath of fresh air."   Growing up in a blue-collar family, they spent weekends and summers on their dad’s job sites learning to work hard for what they wanted. On the way to work, they’d be singing along to classics such as Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, and Tim McGraw in the back of an old grey GMC work truck. The music spoke to them and soon they felt a calling to tell their own stories through their own music.  After they spent their teens in a rock band performing over 300 shows from weddings to bars and all sorts of parties, eventually the brothers found that country music was where they felt most at home.  They dialed in and spent the majority of 2019 writing new songs with fellow artists and friends from all over Alberta and down south in Nashville. Working with Juno Award-winning producer, Matty McKay (Brett Kissel), Flaysher released their high-energy new single “Flat Broke Famous” independently in March of 2020.  LISTEN: https://open.spotify.com/album/7jdAT1zjHqWIr8Yg4I47du flaysher.ca facebook.com/flayshermusic instagram.com/flayshermusic

This is the story of The Woolfman - a British songwriter/producer - inspired by the  words of the American film maker Spike Lee. Both are driven   by the wish to "Heal the Soul of America”. MAKE AMERICA LOVE AGAIN A NEW AMERICAN ANTHEM

by the partae February 24, 2021
written by the partae

This is the story of The Woolfman – a British songwriter/producer – inspired by the  words of the American film maker Spike Lee. Both are driven by the wish to “Heal the Soul of America”. In 2018 The  Woolfman saw Spike Lee on BBC TV saying, “We only have to  make America Love again…”. This sentiment reminded him  that what happens in America affects us in the UK, in Europe,  in Africa, Asia and the whole of the world. That same night – a  tune came to him , a tune rooted in gospel music, the music of  struggle and of hope. The lyrics emerged all at once, as if from  outside himself and a new American Anthem was born.

“We only  have to  make  America  love   again…” –  Spike Lee

At this time in history the message – “Make America Love Again” sets a new path, an aspiration. We do not pretend everything was ever all right in America.  Obama says “ –Do we care to match the reality of America to its ideals? I am not  yet ready to abandon the possibility of  America.”

This is the message of “Make America Love Again” – the possibility of America  as a beacon of democracy, hope and   justice, leading the way in an increasingly  turbulent and unpredictable world.  The Woolfman teamed up with UK   filmmaker Tone Davies & H28 to make a music video for the track during  lockdown 2021. Shot on phones by vocalists Maxine Sparkles  and Francesca Confortini – the global pandemic helped shape  the video.

“Make America Love Again” has won BEST SONG at the Vegas  Movie Awards, BEST MUSIC VIDEO at the Atman Film Festival  in Hollywood and is currently #1 in the DMOFF Film Festival  Top 10 films.

“Make America Love Again” is released worldwide through W  Recordings – available on all digital platforms from Friday 26th  February 2021.

Why is a British person writing about Making America Love Again?
From my London home in 2018 I watched Spike Lee on the BBC. He said we don’t need to make America great again we need to Make it Love Again.  I was moved and I was inspired. America has suffered and is suffering these days, especially during those last dark days of January 2021. Writing this song was simple emotional response at 3am in the morning. Only later did I understand that Spike Lee’s words had triggered something in me, a wish to make a difference, to make my voice heard.
What happens in America has always affected us in the UK, in Europe in Africa, Asia and the whole of the world, since 1776, from D Day to Vietnam to Haight Ashbury to leaving the Paris Climate Agreement. Fairness, justice and democracy, however flawed, are under threat. We, the artistic community will play a part in their defence.

Did America ever really love in the past?
“Make America Love Again” sets a new path, an aspiration. It is a metaphor for the urgent need for change, for hope, in the belief that things can get better. We do not pretend everything was ever all right. Obama says – “Do we care to match the reality of America to its ideals? I am not yet ready to abandon the possibility of America”. This is a time to ask – what is or was ever good about America? This is the message of “Make America Love Again” The “possibility” of America as a beacon of democracy, hope and justice in an increasingly unfair and angry world.
Where did you find the singers?
I was very lucky, I found Francesca and Sparkles through contacts. They initially took part in our “million singers” video wall and it was obvious to me that they were the right people and voices to perform on the final track. I believe they both found something new in themselves when singing “Make America Love Again”.

Expect to hear from experts picking through topics like “the future of live events” to “kick-starting a business”. There will be opportunities to put your questions and opinions to the experts as well as discuss the events of the day with other people tuning in. There will also be select spaces for group mentoring sessions with some of the experts that will be speaking during the Firestarters event.

RYAN DOWNEY Announces new album A TON OF COLOURS Signs to Dot Dash Recordings Shares new single & video ‘Heart Is An Onion’ Announces single launch dates

Following his acclaimed 2018 debut album Running, Melbourne’s Ryan Downey today returns with a new single & video ‘Heart Is An Onion‘, a vibrant full-throated indie-rock march and the first track to be taken from his forthcoming luminous art-rock album A TON OF COLOURS out Friday 14 May via Dot Dash Recordings / Remote Control Records.

To celebrate the announcement, Downey has announced a string of single launches in Sydney, Melbourne & Castlemaine, kicking off mid-April – tickets on sale now here.

Downey’s sound is a vibrant affair –musically, stylistically, and vocally. His astonishing voice often raises comparisons to the all-terrain vocals of Bryan Ferry and David Bowie, whilst his give-all performance style is inspired by artists he describes as “offering an expression from a deep human place” such as Kate Bush, Karen O and David Byrne. On record, Downey’s drama-filled, spirited songs are vivid and playful but with a raw sophistication, in part courtesy of producer Burke Reid (Courtney Barrett, Julia Jacklin), with an electrifying heft, depth and genuine emotion that nods to contemporaries re-defining the guitar record, such as Anna Calvi and Big Thief.

First single ‘Heart Is An Onion’ is a surreal, existential roller coaster ride towards hope and compassion. As Downey explains, “it’s about empathy and looking into each other’s human layers, seeing that we all have the same clunky, miraculous hearts underneath and finding resilience and magic in that connection.” The track’s bold, saturated sounds are steered by Downey’s determined yet vulnerable vocal performance.

‘Heart Is An Onion’ is accompanied by a wonderfully surrealist video which Downey describes as “Mad Max meets (British photographer) Tim Walker”. Created by Downey and co-director Alex Badham, the video was shot outside of Horsham in Victoria in the 40-degree heat giving the video the woozy sun-drenched backdrop of the Australian countryside in summertime. It uses iconic motifs from the Surrealist movement reimagined in the song’s lyrics, with a special nod to René Magritte’s iconic skies, blood-spattered statues and his ‘The Son of Man’ self-portrait, recreated here with Downey and an onion.

Mirroring the song’s lyrics which Downey describes as being about “layers unfolding, revealing our inner worlds”, the video uses face paint to represent elements of the inner self that inspire empathy – wounds are represented in the red ‘blood’ splat and locked tear, desire in the enlarged beauty spot, and individual stories in the snail trail maze.

Downey‘s forthcoming album A TON OF COLOURS is about humanness – its beauty, its contradictions, and our desire for connection. It is a love letter, of sorts, to the beauty of emotional expression and communication, with love being the conduit for this joy of self-expression. Inspired in the main by Downey’s long-term relationship there’s a soul-sharing vulnerability throughout, found in the aching longing in ‘Contact’ (“If I can’t be touched right now, then I need your love”), the exploration of intoxicating all-consuming love in ‘Sors De Ma Tête’ (“No freedom from dreaming with your eyes on the back of my eyes”), and in the introspective ‘Half Light’ which lays bare feelings of fear and inadequacy (“Fear, you will not own me, but I don’t want to be lonely, I just want to see half-light in full flight”).

Love is presented on A TON OF COLOURS as the multifaceted, visceral and galvanising beast it often is, and musically the record mirrors this in its sonic spectrum – from the chaotic to the delicate …The former found in the anthemic first single ‘Heart Is An Onion’, and the latter found in songs like the gently expanding cascade of ‘Patterns’, and somewhere in-between in the lurching rhythms and minimalist buzz of ‘Same Dream, Every Night’. It heaves, flickers, and radiates with a powerful tenderness. It’s open, adventurous and wants to take you with it.

A TON OF COLOURS is Ryan Downey’s second album following 2018’s debut Running which was nominated for the Australian Music Prize, and saw Downey play a string of headline shows in Australia, as well as support Marlon Williams, Sarah Blasko and Emma Louise across Australia and Europe throughout 2018-19.

It was written and performed by Ryan Downey on vocals, guitars, keys, synths, beats, percussion, with additional instrumentation from Jesse Glass (drums, piano and additional percussion) and Nicolas Roder (bass, Moog). The album was recorded in 2020 at Soundpark Studios, Northcote, Australia. It was produced, engineered, and mixed by Burke Reid, and mastered by Guy Davie at Electric Mastering, London UK.

CC:DISCO! ANNOUNCES FIRST LIGHT (VOL II) OUT FRIDAY 7 MAY + SHARES FIRST DOUBLE RELEASE ‘VGF (DUB)’ BY DONALD’S HOUSE & LIPELIS / ‘LAAMORE’ BY HIDDEN SPHERES

Soothsayer are thrilled to announce the second instalment of CC:DISCO!’s First Light compilation series, to be released as a limited transparent orange double LP and digitally (with an additional 12 tracks) on Friday 7 May. Today, CC:DISCO! shares the first two tracks from the highly anticipated release; ‘VGF (DUB)’ from Donald’s House & Lipelis and Hidden Spheres’ ‘Laamore’.

‘VGF (DUB)’ is an 80s flecked Italo-Disco track by Melbourne brothers, Donald’s House (Permanent Vacation, Touch From A Distance) – an act that CC:DISCO! says has been on her radar since the very start of their career, and Moscow-based producer Lipelis (Animals Dancing, Public Possession), a scene stalwart who wowed local crowd’s at 2018’s Dark Mofo.

CC:DISCO!: “’VGF (DUB)’ is a Balearic core shaker I’ve always needed in my life, that guitar part just takes me to Ibiza and back again. Donald’s House and Lipelis, talk about a collaboration of my dreams!”

LISTEN: ‘VGF (DUB)’ by Donald’s House & Lipelis

‘VGF (DUB)’ is complemented by the dreamy ‘Laamore’ from Manchester staple Hidden Spheres (Lobster Theremin, Rhythm Section International), a UK tastemaker with millions of streams on Spotify and a revered monthly show on NTS Radio. ‘Laamore’ is a floaty, Lo-Fi composition that beautifully bookends this tasty double release.

“‘Laamore’ I must say is a track that kept me sane in the year that was 2020, every time I play it makes me feel calm and happy. Basically, if a song could whisper in your ear “everything’s gonna be alright” this would be that song.”

LISTEN: ‘Laamore’ by Hidden Spheres

Both tracks premiered overnight on Les Yeux Orange, with ‘Laamore’ making its local radio debut on FBi radio on Monday.

While First Light (Vol I) focused on Australian and New Zealand underground talent – the likes of Roza Terenzi, Love Deluxe, Nite Fleit and Sui Zhen, Soothsayer Presents: First Light (Vol II) Compiled by CC:DISCO! was curated while CC:DISCO! was based in Europe over the last 12 months and offers listeners an open invitation to discover upcoming and unsung talents not only from Australia, but from across the globe in Russia, Japan, Zambia, Spain, Sweden, Indonesia, US, Canada and beyond. Across the 24 exclusive tracks (digital only), CC:DISCO! explores the scopes of jazz, Balearic, disco, house, trance and techno, affirming her status as a dedicated tastemaker.

In fitting form, CC:DISCO! recently brought back dancing with her explosive performance at Sidney Myer Music Bowl’s Sun Cycle last month, after having recently returned to the country post a long stint in Portugal. To say she is excited by what’s on the horizon is an understatement…. watch this space!

UNIFIED MUSIC GROUP CELEBRATE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IN 2021

UNIFIED MUSIC GROUP CELEBRATE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IN 2021

by the partae February 24, 2021
written by the partae

UNIFIED Music Group is proud to celebrate its 10 year company anniversary in 2021 as it moves towards a milestone 20 years in the music business next year.

From its bedroom beginnings as Boomtown Records to its stake as one of Australia’s largest independent music companies, UNIFIED now offers a full suite of artist and music services from its offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Los Angeles and London.

Over the last decade UNIFIED has sought to constantly grow, evolve and innovate. 2021 now finds the company with an extensive range of core business offerings (including Recorded Music, Artist Management, Merchandise and Events), while continuing to expand into new areas through partnerships in and around the industry with thought leaders and visionaries.

Click here to check out an interactive website breaking down UNIFIED’s growth over the last 10 years & detailing its company pillars in depth.

On the anniversary of both his principal company’s decade and close to 20 years since beginning in the music business, UNIFIED Founding CEO Jaddan Comerford shares that though the company has certainly innovated and evolved into its current state over the years, not a lot has changed in terms of it its driving “why”:

“In 2011, we created our mission statement that reads: ‘UNIFIED is the soundtrack of good people working together to achieve extraordinary results’. Although this didn’t exist in the very beginning, it really is what has driven us all along,” he shares, adding:

“UNIFIED is a company that aims to serve people. This includes artists, team members and the broader public and 2021 is a year where we will continue to build on this mission, our vision to innovate and improve, and ultimately dream of a world where we are celebrating in 2031, 2041….”

On navigating a year in business like never before in 2020, Jaddan shares that the forced time to slow down and reflect prompted both clarity and further innovation.

“Personally, I spent most of the last 5+ years on the road, either living in the US and travelling the globe for meetings or to see our artists play shows. Stopping made me take a look at the business and see what we were doing well and also assess what else we could be doing to evolve and adapt for business in 2021 and beyond.”

He adds that one of the most exciting elements of the 2021 milestone year is that it marks 10 years since the launch of the UNFD (pronounced U-N-F-D) record label brand.

“Although I think a lot of people still confuse UNFD and UNIFIED, UNFD is in fact our heavy music label, which is essentially what Boomtown morphed into back in 2011,” he says. “So even though Boomtown is still resting on the shelf, the spirit lives on through UNFD which is now a global label, an idea that wouldn’t have even crossed my mind in 2002, other than in a dream.”

Stay tuned as UNFD announce plans to celebrate a decade of releasing music from some of the world’s most inspiring heavy and alternative artists soon.

Reflecting on nearly two decades in music and 10 years since launching the UNIFIED Music Group brand, Jaddan reiterates the importance of the company’s people as a key element to its success.

“UNIFIED is a business that invests in good people with good ideas. We build careers and we do work with people we love doing it with. We aren’t always perfect and we don’t always get it right, but looking back at where we’ve come from, and the people who have been on the journey, it definitely makes you stop to smell the roses.”

Clouds Hill/Clouds Hill Notes acquires entire Rodríguez-López Productions catalogue and partners with Wise Music Group on The Mars Volta catalogue for worldwide publishing

Clouds Hill Notes is pleased to announce that it has acquired the catalogue of Rodríguez- López Productions, Omar Rodríguez-López’s record label master and publishing rights, including a partnership with Wise Music Group to handle the catalogue publishing of Grammy winning band The Mars Volta.

Coinciding with the recent release of Omar Rodríguez-López’s Clouds Hill Tapes, a triple- album of music recorded at the Hamburg recording studio that has been his refuge and inspiration for many years, Music producer, CEO and founder of the Clouds Hill Group Johann Scheerer felt: “It’s about the right time to announce the acquisition of the RLP catalogue and The Mars Volta publishing now. After being Omar Rodríguez-López’s friend and business partner for such a long time, I am honoured and proud that he decided to also entrust me with this catalogue. Our HQ in Hamburg is now responsible to push this unique catalogue back into everyone’s minds.“

The Rodríguez-López Productions catalogue acquired by Clouds Hill includes numerous solo albums by Omar Rodríguez-López, De Facto, Antemasque and more.

The transaction for The Mars Volta catalogue was managed and negotiated by Clouds Hill Notes, supported by its Co-publisher Wise Music Group on elements of the deal.

Jeffrey Duncan, Executive Vice President, Wise Music Group (United States of America): “We are delighted to welcome The Mars Volta’s catalogue to the Wise Music Group. Their unique canon is singular and timeless, and we are privileged to provide our global expertise and musical home to this celebrated catalogue.”

Michael Ohst, Group Head of Pop & Managing Director, Wise Music Group (Germany): “We have followed the career of The Mars Volta with great interest and are very enthusiastic to represent the catalogue of a band with such lasting stylistic influence and musical say.”

Omar Rodríguez-López team was led by Matt Ash and Stuart Gili-Ross of Raw Power Management. Matt Ash: “We’re delighted to be working with Clouds Hill as they assume the role of stewards for Omar’s life’s work and also with Wise Music on the Publishing of The Mars Volta’s incredible catalogue.“

Stu Gili-Ross added: “It’s an honour for us to be representing a body of work as influential as Omar’s catalogue with Rodríguez-López Productions and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.“

Julia Stone announced for Portsea Hotel, signalling revival of live music for regional Victoria

by the partae February 23, 2021
written by the partae

Australia’s indie-folk darling Julia Stone will be bringing her soulful tunes to the Mornington Peninsula on Labour Day long weekend with Portsea Hotel announcing the singer-songwriter’s performance for Sunday, March 7.

A casualty of Melbourne’s snap five-day lockdown, the rescheduled show is ‘take two’ on the revival of live music within regional Victoria, with Portsea Hotel set to release a stellar lineup of acts over the coming months.

Portsea Hotel General Manager Felicity Muller said Australian musicians will play a pivotal role in reigniting the entertainment industry and boosting regional economies as international acts remain off the cards for the foreseeable future.

“Following the extended shutdown of hospitality venues last year, we’re gearing up for an eventful year full of live music and entertainment and what better way to kickstart it than with the much-loved Julia Stone.

“We have such talented artists within Australia and we’re excited to be able to spotlight both established and emerging talent at Portsea Hotel,” she said.

Presented by local brewery Colonial Brewing Co, the show coincides with the upcoming launch of Julia Stone’s new album, Sixty Summers.

Following the debut of Unreal, Break and Dance in 2020, a broody and smooth track featuring that video clip starring Danny Glover and Susan Sarandon, Julia Stone’s latest album marks her first solo record since she dropped By the Horns in 2014.

No longer content to merely explore the wildernesses of folk and indie-rock, Sixty Summers, Stone’s third solo outing, finds the celebrated songwriter diving headfirst into the cosmopolitan, hedonistic world of late-night, moonlit pop.

Tickets are available to purchase via

https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/julia-stone-presented-by-colonial-brewing-co-at-portsea-hotel-tickets-138202115247 with each ticket purchased to receive a free Colonial Brewing Co can.

Those who had purchased tickets to the original show have automatically been transferred to the new date.

SHARP/SHOCK DROP NEW SINGLE ENDLESS HOLIDAY SPLIT 7" WITH AUSTRALIAN PUNK ROCK LEGENDS BODYJAR OUT TODAY

SHARP/SHOCK DROP NEW SINGLE ENDLESS HOLIDAY SPLIT 7″ WITH AUSTRALIAN PUNK ROCK LEGENDS BODYJAR OUT TODAY

by the partae February 23, 2021
written by the partae

On Friday, Los Angeles punk rock band Sharp/Shock dropped their new single Endless Holiday. The new single was written, recorded and mixed by singer/guitarist Davey Warsop and mastered by Paul Miner (New Found Glory, Thrice).

Endless Holiday is available now on all digital platforms as well as a limited edition split 7″ with legendary Australian punk rock band Bodyjar released via Half Way Records.

LISTEN TO ENDLESS HOLIDAY

ORDER THE SPLIT 7″ WITH BODYJAR

As the band name suggests Sharp/Shock deliver punk rock direct and to the point. That’s exactly what the band have achieved with their new sing along anthem Endless Holiday.

Musically, it is exactly what you might expect from kids schooled early on The Jam and Stiff Little Fingers would sound like. Then, submerse that in the sun drenched beach cities of Southern Californian surf, skate and punk culture and the sounds of Social Distortion, The Descendents or early Green Day and you will find Sharp/Shock.

“I hopped the pond to LA from Birmingham England several years ago as the result of a record deal. After spending so much of my youth and young adulthood in soul-destroying jobs in a blue collar town in England, I basically feel like I’ve won the lottery because I now know what it’s like to live in a “destination” like LA.

So Endless Holiday Is about escapism… Just DREAMING of a more exciting existence than that slightly crappy mundane one that’s handed to so many of us. I was trying to write a song that could tap into that yearning I felt as a kid in England, to just get away from it all and start actually writing my life story!” – singer / guitarist Davey Warsop.

ABOUT SHARP/SHOCK

Have you ever heard the inarguable sound of what materialises when you let fate direct the future? What if that sound was influenced by twenty years of British and American punk cultures colliding? For the members of Sharp/Shock, growing up with the bands that defined music with an honesty and passion that can be rarely found in modern times, cleared a very obvious path for what they wanted to do with their own lives. Sometimes in music, the storybook tale of determination, sacrifice and despair can be thrown around hastily. To some, those three things describe a reality that very few can truly understand, and for the members of Sharp Shock, they are only a few attributes that make up their unique story.

Having all played in bands from a young age, the work ethic it takes to move your life around the world just isn’t something that most people possess. Playing in garages to arenas and back again, sleeping on floors and in vans for the better part of the last fifteen years, they found their way to Southern California and were pushed only by that dream so many end up letting slip away.

Singer/Guitarist Davey Warsop (Beat Union, Suedehead) and bass player/vocals Dan Smith (The Dear & Departed, Day Of Contempt) are UK exports. Smith by way of New Zealand/ Australia and also widely known for his achievement in the tattoo world, they both moved to California in the early 2000’s without knowing each other. Drummer Chris Erickson, cut from the same cloth, raised on the same musical upbringing and by chance yet another Birmingham export, completes the trio perfectly.

Touring extensively in support of their first two releases ‘Unlearn Everything’ (2016) and ‘Youth Club’ (2018) and their blistering and urgent, three-piece power punk live shows helped them build a strong fan base around the world, but no-one knew they were sitting on a healthy stack of new material with no real plan of releasing any of it until it was right.

Bass and vocalist Dan Smith, having the admiration for Bodyjar from a very young age and growing up in New Zealand where the band was always larger than life, was the driving force behind this release. “After becoming friendly with Cam during the first quarantine on Instagram of all things, one day I was listening to Bodyjar in the shower, singing as loud as I could. I messaged Cam and simply said ‘Man, we should do a split 7”. To my surprise he wrote straight back, super positive and encouraging about it. Talk about ‘if you don’t ask, you never know’ kind of situation!”

Both bands have used two brand new songs for this release. ‘Reaction’ by Bodyjar and “Endless Holiday” by Sharp Shock and will be released on Melbourne record label Half Way Records, owned and operated by Kiwi export and talent Luke Yeoward.

Dear Reader,

In Electronic Music, there are many aspects to the genre that have always needed more attention, more observation and constant monitoring. All of these areas, the ones we’re mostly used to following and watching things such as public event announcement and coverage, industry/business services, rising talents and all that hovers around the gathering of people and audiences. But nothing has proven to be more vital than the creation of Music itself. Since the form of Electronic Music that we recognize today began in the mid-1980s, it has been my personal view that as an industry that specializes in such, there is still too little attention to the art of the creation. That, what we mostly see are examples of the consequences and the after-effects of what this music does.

But, what about all the aspects it takes for music to be made – to arrive at the point of public consumption with very little attention of the way it travels to that point. What are situations that are beyond the names and cities where the artists come from. Who are these people that translate these otherworldly ideas to create such sounds and rhythms for us?  How much of what we hear is attributed to the producer’s personality itself? What do they see and believe? As an industry that isn’t always as diplomatic and fair to certain artists as it should be, there had always been room for more conversations about creativity, more exchanging of ideas and about the subject of expanding Electronic Music to boundaries further than our imaginations.

The creation of The Escape Velocity artists program and magazine are our contributions to these topics. We’re ready to examine and explore all that revolves around the mechanics of creativity. Subjects that at first glance, may not appear to be influential to what you hear, but are in fact, primary reasons that had help fuel many creative efforts by many Electronic Musicians and artists for decades.  It’s a quarterly digital magazine (every 3 months), and because we know a lot can happen in a short time, we’re prepared to make various types of supplements in between each main issue. Elements like more interviews, articles and even performances. The format is digital and it gives us many new advantages. We’ll be able to insert video content and moving images onto the pages, all while remaining in the confines of the magazine itself. No page limits, which means articles can be as short or as long as they need to be, pages can be enlarged for closer viewing, no physical mailing, easier on the environment and we can reach more people faster.
And best of all, it’s free.

The Escape Velocity magazine can be easily attained by visiting www.axisrecords.com.
From all of us at Axis Records and The Escape Velocity, we thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Jeff Mills
